i found a way to have 1000's of different games going at once in gt, it's a good way to back-up your good cars when you only have 1 memory card...

copy the save to usb flash, or HD... and mix and match... you can have heaps of saves on the run... very handy

I play FFXI, so saving isn't a problem for me! :P

In the HDD you can create different folder & you have the space for 40GB(Note that FFXI take space, so there's like 30GB~ still left for saves)

I've been playing FFXI for more than 1 year. It's an Hard Drive like evry hard drive you see on the market. I didn't got a problem yet...

I read that it wasn't that reliable and can get corrupted..

Any USB flash drive can get corrupted, but in my experience the MaxDrive USB drive hasn't been any more unreliable than my Lexar JumpDrive or any other USB drive I've used. As long as you take care of it it should be reliable.

Also, remember it's always worthwhile to back up important data (which is why I keep a backup of all the data on both the MaxDrive and my JumpDrive on my PC). Take precautions and be prepared.

(Just re-read the last statement there and I feel a bit like a parent) :nervous:

hmm.. firstly, thanks MUM for the heads up on life

second is I WAS looking at getting a MaxDrive but they don't sell them here. Not even at EB!.. and I hate mail order. especially for a fragile product like a flash card..

But, like I said, it was just something I read. On the EB website, no less. Under user opinions

It took Maxdrive several releases to get USB copy working and although it may work now (fyi Maxdrive still doesn't read consistently on my PS/2s), who is to say the next update will work 'out of the box' ?

The only safe (ie safest) option is to back up/copy via the browser. Don't come crying otherwise.

Im getting the max replay thing (not the drive) and i have a lexar jumpdrive (USB 512mb), do you guys know if the max replay program (whatever) is compatible with my usb device?? thanks

Good question and here's the rub. Datel (makers of Maxdrive) say that only a USB drive bought from them is guaranteed to work. WTF is that ???? USB drives are supposed to be standard devices.

In my experience Datels products are ropey and seem to be in a constant beta state. (I work in software, have tried their products, and it took ages to get an issue I had resolved and I was in direct contact with them). Some of it works ok, downloads are erratic. Hence my comments, the only good copy is a browser copy.

The MaxDrive works fine. The only problem is some people forget to 'un-crush' their folders. This is basicaly compressing and happens automatically when ANYTHING goes onto the USB drive.

The only problem with the MaxDrive is it is quite slow, but apart from that it's fine and reliable.

-OFF TOPIC-

You're a lucky guy!!!
FFXI isn't available in Portugal yet, SCEE doesn't even know when it will be released i can't wait to play it. :banghead:
Playing FFX2 becomes boring

:grumpy:

ive just oredered a Maxdrive for £10 with free delivery which i think is a good deal.

i have the max drive and the software is buggy as hell.. i may have a save file i want to put back onto the memory card, so i load it onto the maxdrive using their software.. plug it in my ps2.. blah blah.. anyway, it takes several checks of the drive in the software for the PS2 before the saves show up so they can be copied to the mem card

It is said in the GT4 manual that they recommend using Sony flashdrives. Of course. But my two Kingstons have worked well so that is one big advertisement again.

I have used several USB drives with the PS2 and they work fine. The issue is with the Datel software. eg you download the latest codes onto the USB drive but the software will only read those codes if they are transferred onto a memory card. (The number of times I had to reload the hOng Kong course code in GT4P..)

But, they advertise that the codes should read from the USB drive. There have been several issues with saves as well. At the time Datel admitted a problem, it could be that they are resolved and are now user errors but I repeat, valuable saves should be backed up via the browser onto another memory card.

Steven

I didn't mean using the drive for codes, just for photomode pictures. I don't have any need to cheat in Gran Turismo, it's good enough as it is.

I don't and I am sure people on here do not. My reference was to Datel's product in general and a warning to others especially about the stability of saves. (With the codes from Datel you could get Hong Kong in GT4P, that's not cheating, more enhancement).

Steven

I have to agree that it's an enhancement - but still, with GT4 you get a few more track than just one... :dopey:

i just want one for time verification for races, via the replay. is this ok or is it still buggy?
