tires don't matter? they are the only things that connect your car to the pavement. if tires don't matter, why do you think the D1GP drifters and other good drifters try to get really sticky tires. and tires do matter when it comes to being stock. espically if the subject at hand is drifting or any kind of racing. 100% stock means nothing on the car was changed since it came from the factory. including tires.

They use the really sticky tires, because it gives off the most smoke, and just like in GT3 the tire selection changes with the HP.........

Stock on sims is stock, stock on normals is stock.....period.......

hey, change the name of the post from 100% to 98% stock. the tires matter as well. a stock car plus simulation tires isn't 100% stock.

I can drift cars completely stock, w/o changes to the tires or oil changes or any modifications. it isn't that hard, just take a car and go drift it. I like to take the Celica GTFOUR ST205 and bring it to SSR5(wet). it drifts nicely. I usually just go to the arcade mode and pick a car in the garage part. I like the S15, EVO, TVR Cebera Speed 6, RX-7, Porsche Boxter, and Miata. and w/e else I want to drift at the moment.

wrong, they use really sticky street tires fro drifting in the D1GP because they need good amounts of traction. if they didn't care about traction or sticky tires, they would go pick up some used cheap-arse $30 tires for the shows, not friggin Advan Neova's. also, the D1 cars are actually set up more like a grip racing cars set up, not like a drift setup. they just use talent to get the car sideways....and the side brake.

lol, I know how the cars are set up, and dispite what you think, the main reason they use the sticky tires, is because they give off much more smoke, which inturn gets more points. I think you need to do a little research......... Also, you presume to know how each of the cars competing in D1 are setup......lol.... I'm sorry, but you don't know that, because only the people tuning the car really know all that......... Furthermore, as I said before, the tire compound they use is what is best for the HP that they have (just like you should in GT3), although they go a little stickier, so they will put out more smoke..........

That's all I'm going to say on this matter, because this thread was a lost cause from the beginning...........

They run stickier tires because the lose of grip is more progression, and in turn more predictable and stable. Cheap tires won't give you that.

That is correct, but we aren't talking about expensive versus cheap, we're talking about sticky vs. non sticky................ They figure the right tire, and then use a slightly grippier tire, to produce more smoke...... Of course not every drifter uses this technique, but a lot of the D1 drivers do.... Furthermore, I'm not really a huge D1 fan (at least the US events), I prefer more Touge style.........

I've never seen any drivers drift in touge vid clips, even though touge is where drifting really started to be used a lot:odd: Can someone give me a good link to one where the drivers actually drift down the mountain?

i just finished a run on apricot hill wiht a stock Miata LS, havent broken out the gt3 for a few weeks.....anyways, this thing isnt too bad, could use some more torque though...thats about all it needs
