:) GT4P has one of the tests where you are trying to get a Viper up the 1/4mile as quick as possible. That is quite hard, and when you are going for gold, there is quite a bit of skill involved in getting the launch and change up points spot on. It only allows you to use manual and if you just floor it from standstill you just sit there spinning...

From the above evidence I would say Drag racing will be in GT4 and it will be pretty tricky and a great laugh on-line.

No it's not... and you can use AT too...

Here's a tip though

Change to manual, 2nd gear...

Floor it...

Gold cup...

I think if PD makes a drag mode, it'll be great. As said repeatedly, KY is a perfectionist. He wouldn't put it in the game if it wasn't relevant or realistic enough to be part of it.

I welcome drag racing. But just like drifting, I only want it to be multiplayer. I don't want to be forced to do it to complete 100% (just think of how many 1/4 miles you'd be doing ;)). But racing against someone online who does have imperfections and can screw up, there's where the glory lies... :D:D

Piss off with your multiplayer only comments...

All aspects of the game should be in the single player mode that are in multiplayer...

I hate games that force you to be multiplayer to get full use of the game... I've spent enough money on the PS2 and the game that I don't want to have to spend more money to get 100% out of the game.

haha, launch control for beginners that is :p I reckon one of the upgrades should be the Nissan/Renault launch control system, that thing owns.

Then my simple solution: Don't include drag!!! ;)

lol just look at NHRA Drag Racing (the game for ps2) hahahahaha:D:D:D

Drag would probably be pretty boring, how fast do we blast off on cars at the start of a normal race? My auto-pilot rear-ends 4th place before the end of the grid ffs.

Knowing you have a car that can go down the track that can beat a Corvette C5-R is always special, you know

I have seen a C5-R run on a drag strip. It ran a mid 13, as it couldn't manage to hook up at all until about the 1/8th mile. Its trap speed was insane however.

That's why some of the big American muscle cars use 4WD

wtf, name one

The drag racing in NFS:U is actually pretty cool. You have to time your shifts right to win. I'd say it will be a lot better in GT4 because there won't be annoying traffic coming perpendicular to you. (Does anyone else HATE traffic in racing games?)

I can't think of too much cooler than drag racing a couple of Toyota Vitzes.

as far as drag racing, I think it would be somewhat more fun if they didn't have a 3-2-1-go normal launch, but a true tree w/ the possibility of a red light start.

The difficulty with that is how to factor in a clutch drop - hold the revs at a certain point, then release the brake to go? Hold R1, then release it as if you are releasing a clutch?

Obviously it would be rather difficult to try and duplicate ALL the aspects of drag racing with a hand-held controller (although it wouldn't be too hard with a wheel and pedals, I'd imagine), but there should certainly be some sort of middle ground where enough variables could be implemented which would keep it challenging and entertaining.

For those concerned about the possible loss in consumers from the implementation of overly complicated controls, perhaps the "reality dynamics" could be limited to the drag mode only. That way those who enjoy the "point and floor it!" mentality could still enjoy 99% of the game. I do, however, think Arcade mode should be for those individuals though. This series is billed as a Simulation, which insinuates an effort to emulate reality as much as possible.

As stated in previous posts, NFS:U, regardless of whether you liked the game itself or not, actually did manage a nice job on the dynamics of drag racing: Proper launch revs, throttle modulation, and shift points. They even went so far as to make the cars react differently based on specific drivetrain, if given too much throttle.

I like the realism of a car getting "out of shape" when losing traction. It IS hard to steer a FWD when you spin. Your rear end IS going to kick out on a RWD, and you WILL have full car shifts if you have enough power to overpower a 4WD. It's been shown that it can be done in NFS, so surely the GT series could implement something as well, and doubtlessly make it even better.

From every interview I've ever seen with the creator of the GT series, his whole motivation seems to stem from the love of the automobile. Period. I see the game as a celebration of the machine, in all it's vast forms and variations. This being the case, I can't imagine the final goal of such a perfectionist as he is, excluding any major portion of automotive competition. I hope drag racing is in the works for the future, if not for GT4.

Couple of Midget II's perhaps?

Of course i will own everyone in my Model T with a stage 4 turbo... the ultimate sleeper :sly:

Assuming it doesn't explode.
it won't... the performance improvement will be huge too...

Modified 0-60 1.12 years

i would love to see a drag race in the game...i think its neccesary, its a shame it isn't already in the game

maybe make it a little more interesting with having to time a combo of buttons to start the race....or make it button smashreceptive...something to make it anyone's race each time...that the driver has a human affect towards axceleration (car tweaking goes without mentioning)

I don't care about drag racing in GT4 or any game or even in real life. If I wanted to see cars driving straight, I'd walk a block from my house to look watch cars drive on the 4-lane street.

If i wanted to watch cars go round corners id go find a corner.. and watch

I find any kind of automotive competition enjoyable. It's actually very simple....I love cars. Which, actually, is what I think the GT series is all about. It's like an interactive celibration of the automobile in general, hence, I feel the inclusion of all sorts of motorsports should have it's legitimate place in the game. 👍

I think a drag race against the computer would be exciting and would give people more knowledge of setting up cars to drive a certain way.

A drag race vs the AI probably would be boring, a drag race against another player on the other hand could be exiting if both cars were even.

The only issue I take with racing against other players (which I suppose will be true for any online game), would be the possibility of me running my legitimate car against someone's cheated vehicle. I'd like there to be some sort of governing program which would prevent cars from being manipulated past their origional parameters (Is that even possible?). That way the competitions would be more fair.

Create limits and restrictions for online racese like limit a cars maximum Bhp and limit it's minimum weight.

I don't really mind if drag racing is added or not... if they have all the old GT tracks plus all the new ones plus reverse modes for all and ideally rain/night options for all and buggerloads of cars then yeah ok drag mode can be added :P

One thing though, I don't think drag mode would work as you all want it to work the way PD have the gears working in GT4P... there is always that lack of revs when changing in the lower gears...

What's the point of 1000m test?
It's too far for drag racing, and totally defeats the point of an acceleration contest.

I would like too see a real quarter mile, with a real tree and staging lights,
and the possibility of a red light would make it much more satisfying.
Two-player drag races, side-by-side split screen...funfunfun...

a 1000m test is good to display high powered cars that get alot of wheel spin.
It doesnt rely so much on great fast launches (4wd)

the 400m test is a 1/4 mile (metric/imperial conversion)
.25 miles = 400m

as for the rest of it... yes side by side drag would be more entertaining, even just if testing vehicles.

I think he's aware of that, but wants it to be more like a real quarter mile run, hence the staging lights etc.
