Which of these 100 Grand Sedans is best in your opinion?

The OP asked what $100k luxury sedan I would get and listed a few.

I chose "other" and simply said I would spend ~2/3rds of that on a CTS-V and bank the rest. (notice how it just says "other" and not "other car that cost $100k")

Thankfully, not everyone is as pedantic as you are. In the poll it doesn't actually state the currency either. Since it says 100 grand, I might assume it's in Yen, which unfortunately would only give me $1,200 to play with to buy a luxury sedan.

Explain the "$" sign in the title.

Explain the "$" sign in the title.

Explain the "$100,000 sedans" in the title, and then the list of $100,000 sedans. I wasn't too bothered about you choosing the Caddy, and you justified it well enough, but don't tell me you were oblivious to the class of car the OP was suggesting you pick from.

And you'll note I stated "in the poll", not "in the title".

Either the S Class or the BMW 7 Series.

Whenever you think of luxury, you almost always think Mercedes. It's the biggest and best vehicle they do, everything about it is pure luxury.

The 7 Series is probably the most comfortable car you'll ever sit in. Sure the front of the car looks a bit...meh...but you're going to be driving the car and enjoying it. The car is solid, safe, powerful and a joy to drive.

I'd recommend the LS600h but it feels too light for the size and weight the car is and this maybe a good thing, but I think it has so feel. It just drives silently from one place to another, nothing really special (maybe the soothing silence is a plus).

Jaguar XJ has an amazing interior but everything else I feel that the others can do better. Also the rear end styling is a let down.

Audi A8 is good, but I'd go for the previous model (which is fantastic). I don't know much about the new one other than it must be even better than the older one. If you think about it logically it's probably top of the list, but I think of it as LWB A6 now and that alters my opinion again.

The Quattroporte looks beautiful, goes fast, but doesn't give the same feel of luxury or space as the others. Also it depreciates faster than a rocket, so you're much better off buying second hand.

So my top choice is the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S Class. Whatever brand you're more associated with it doesn't matter, they're both spectacular.

I was well aware of the class of car, and as I stated, I chose "other". I then gave my alternative choice.

Am I allowed to opt for a used Jaguar XJ? I'm VERY partial to the late model design. I like the new one, just not as much as the old one.

I don;t see why you'd want to, but yes you can. It's a frigging gorgeous car, not as pretty as the S-Class ;), but definitely second on my list.

The big problem with the CTS is that it's not even a full-sized luxury sedan. It's a mid-sized 5-series competitor. The point is thus moot.

The new XJ is better in absolutely every way.

Except looks. While I don't hate the looks anymore, and even think they're fantastic, the old XJ's classic style and slim hips are still incredible today. I'd love to have one in green with the black maple and dark leather interior.

This kid in our school's dad owns a grey Quattroporte. It's slow but it's beautiful.

I have to agree, these are all gorgeous cars (save the Beamer, I hate BMW's new styling,) but out of the lot the Maserati is the most expensive (at least in Canada,) at $135'000. For that I can have a high model S-class :P

Its also as close to a 4 door Ferrari as a car can get. I also voted for the S, because you forgot the Porsche.:grumpy::crazy:

Or the W108 S-Klasse:

Every time I look at that I think of every 60's dictators, which pretty much all had one of these.

None the less a legend, I'd kill for one.

Well, since I'm not currently in a position to be able to drive anything even approaching any of these cars, looks are all I have to go by!

From what I've read the new XJ drives better, but I can't see the old one being horrible by most standards, and I'm a sucker for those looks. 👍 I agree that the old ones had a style that was supremely elegant.

So, either way I guess I should vote XJ, since even if I was restricted to the new one I'd choose it over the others on the list.

...which doesn't say "$" anywhere. It just says "grand". We call pounds sterling "grand" if there are a thousand of them. I expect there's an equivalent in other countries.

So I could happily have assumed it was Yen. Just like you're happy to assume that, in a thread about $100k sedans and with a very obvious list of large, luxury sedans around $100k in the poll, the OP wasn't specifically referring to cars that size.

Have you found me a luxury sedan for my 100k Yen/$1,200 yet?

Have you actually driven the XJ? I struggle to think of anything it could do better, save for the love/hate rear end. Most reviews I've read of the car seem to back that up, too.

-> Too bad none of these offer M/T & Diesel combo in the US. And I'm not particularly keen on big luxo sedans in general.

-> And since my favorite luxo-car of choice, the CTS-V Wagon is out of the question...

...I'd pick the Panamera GTS (USD$110K+)...

...the Pana is more of my taste. I'm not particularly into the luxury game much, I prefer a more sporty experience than a car that will put me to sleep on I-15. :)

You're right, in the poll it doesn't say "$", but if you read the first line of the post:

There are quite a few massive sedans that define luxury, and the usually range from $95'000 to $125'000.

So unless for some odd reason he mentioned US Dollars in the first post, but made the poll based on Yen, Rubles, Chuck E. Cheese tokens, whatever...

...which wasn't in the same vehicle class as every other choice listed.

Show me where it HAD to be in the same class. I refer again to the "other" option in the poll.

I chose "other", gave my alternative and reason. Deal with it.

Show me where it HAD to be in the same class.

It was implied, very obviously so.

As before though, I don't really care what you chose. Could be a Chevy Cruze with leather seats for all I care. It almost was.

For someone who didn't care about my car choice, you really seemed to care about my car choice. :odd:

I don't care about your car choice (I've said twice now that I understand your justification for it), I was just confused by your inability to realise what class of car the OP was angling for.

Again, you care enough to keep this going.

I'm sticking with my car choice, and have given my reasons for choosing said car.

Show me where it says the car HAS to be in the same size/price class if one chooses "other" in the poll.

It doesn't. Nor - in the poll, which is what you seem concerned with - does it specify currency. Waiting for my Japanese luxury beater still.
