What are you talking about? It gets better power and fuel economy numbers than the rest of the competition. And it's a bread-and-butter sedan so it's not exactly tuned for weekend track days. On top of that, it's geared for fuel economy.

That said, it would've been nice to get at least some degree of tuning. But it's perfect for driving on the roads in traffic where it belongs.

Call me utterly insane, but considering the price of this (and the engine-sharing Optima), I'd actually consider it along with a V6 Mustang. I mean if it were my own money and it'd be a daily driver... sure, these aren't on the same level of performance as a Mustang, but they're damn enticing for what they are.

Hyundai's (still) on a roll 👍

3440lbs 274hp 264lbft. Turbo I4. Sonata runs 15.0.....doin 24/34mpg

The performance of the motor isn't much to be proud of. To the Green heads yea but gear heads no...

Wiould be sad when the 2011 300/Charger 292hp V6 w7-8sp launches doing 15 sec runs and still doing 30 mpg, and would be hilarious if the 200 does better numbers putting these cars to shame...

But that price is great though.

The Sonata's 15.0 sec run is awfully conservative, it's getting anywhere between 14.6 to 14.8. It is faster than the Genesis Coupe 2.0T.

It is also rumored boost is reduced in 1st and 2nd gear to control torque steer, which could have an effect on hard launches like on a 1/4 mile.

It's the transmission. I really want to drive one of these to see if they still have that awful transmission. It's supposed to be brand new though.

I'd like to see some of these magazines test acceleration from 30mph and other passing simulations.

30-60 would be an interesting measure.

When I measure performance for the mag, I always do 0-100 km/h and 60-100 km/h (slightly different measures... that's 0-62 and 38-62). I picked 60-100 because that's highway minimum and maximum here, and is a good measure of passing performance.

A 0-62/60 time and quarter mile time don't always tell the full story... not any more with launch control, different shifting strategies, skip-shifts in new automatics and electronic throttles playing merry hell with drag launches nowadays.

If I had a mag, I would conduct what I'd call an "Overtake the asshole" test. Both cars cruise next to eachother and then one has to try to overtake as the "asshole" car steadily speeds up when the passing car changes lanes.

EVO magazine used to have a performance measure called TED (time exposed to danger)... It was the time a car took to overtake an articulated truck travelling at c.40mph.

What's the benchmark? Mustang? Porsche? Veyron? RS200?

^ Probably Camry V6s. In beige.

Plus the "Dump the clutch. Replace the whole transmission after 5 launches" acceleration tests that most 0-60 times usually are in magazine tests.

Shhhh... don't let them know! That's one of the perks of the job!

I'm still waiting for my chance to time a GT-R. Dude at the photoshoot we did last week had an HKS GT600 kit... sad part is... we were supposed to do the shoot at the racetrack, but the weather conspired against it... *sigh* maybe next time.
