125cc shifter cart @ gran turismo area nearly impossible to win?

Hi fellow gt racers,

I've been trying to win the 3rd shifter cart race at the gran turismo area for some time now and Im unable to win it. I now come second almost every race but I can't overtake the first cart. It is always the last lap, I just need one more lap and I could overtake him.. it's utterly frustrating and I'm surprised I didnt smash my controller yet, I cant remember the last time I was so frustrated about a video game.

I got this Pop up help thingy "unable to win a race, upgrade your car!".. but I cant find anything I could change on the cart!?

Are there any tips how to race the carts with the controller? I dont have a wheel. I try to drive as clean as possible, but it seems Im just too slow. There's always a huge gap between 8th and 7th and when I finally catch up and overtake them the race is almost over, then I overtake all to place 2 and the race is over. Arg!

Any tips are really appreciated.

The only thing you can change in a kart is the gearbox. Try to use a lower top speed, and you will accelerate faster.

I actually find it easier if you increase the top speed.

You accelerate slower but it's easier to put the power down and it gives you more stability when you accelerate through those two high speed corners before the finish line.
 
That was a hard and frustrating race. It took me many tries but I finally managed to do it. I found calming down and really focusing was the key. At first the more frustrated I got the harder and more aggressive I was trying and that didn't help.

Well that's the only advice I have. ;)
 
Have a look at Page 7 of this section and a thread entitled "kart racing - most frustrating racing in gt6" or something like that (can't put a link to it as am on my tablet and don't know how). There is a lot of good advice in that thread for DS3 users....I struggled majorly with the event and almost quit the entire game in frustration but kept at it, adjusted my driving style and won. I posted a replay of my eventual gold win in that thread which will give you a good idea on different throttle control. Good luck:tup:

But yeah, search "Kart Racing - most frustrating races in GT" and "Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125cc Shifter (Tuning and Strategy Guide - Internationl A)"

I particularly recommend the latter as that's the one that helped me more.

I just placed 1st in the Arena, finally...I really didn't have much problems with other 2 races (adding balast was a very useful tip that I found somewhere around here), but Arena is a story for itself...no ballast changes were any helpful to be honest...

after god knows how many attempts, I did it, overtaking the last car on half of the final lap

all I did was adjust the top speeed to 170 km/h, nothing else
 
I think the tip about ballast may have originated from the latter of my two search suggestions. I really can't recommend that thread enough for anyone attempting the 125 shifter championship.
 
not sure my advice can be of any help:

*adjusted the steering sensitivity 2 notches down than what i usually drive with. this made a big difference.
*tested and practised on free run mode before i took on race. because once you enter the event you cant just retry after you spun on 1st corner, you get forced to continue.
*use separate setup sheets for gearing optimised for short track and fast track.
*pass cars on outside on slow corners. going through wider radius keeps the engine rev higher and keeps engine getting bogged down.
edit: *used automatic for really tiny track, i made my job as easy as possible.

to me any of 125 kart races were harder than any of Super class events or Super License tests or Goodwood festival events so i left them to very last. once i was in groove, i did all InterB, InterA and S kart events at one go. i came out 2kg lighter due to perspiration...

I second this. Longer gears are better for putting power down and reducing oversteer.

ITs a gimmick...so I suggest you skip these Go cart races completely...

It's not a gimmick, and gold is required to achieve %100. Considering most professional race car drivers came from Karting, it has a place in this game.
 
I dunno what I used, it's somewhere in that other long-winded karting thread, but I know I brought the gears down a fair bit for that race. Yeah it can be a bit touchy with the throttle at times, but a bit of practice and it was under control. I actually found the karts quite fun, and as mentioned in the other thread, had a blast whackin' the shifter kart around Monaco.

Mind you, I'm using a G27. No idea what it's like using the DS3 for anything in GT6.
 
its was quite easy for me bu tim using a g25, i put 10 KG at 15 and was able to win it,
i even played it for my friends that was already frustated hahahha
when playing with a dualshok (i did it with DS3 too) for the way i drive
i found its important to increas the sensitivity for the sticks or else it wouldnt make the turn
it was almost like artifcial understeer but once i increased it to 4 or 5 it was very easy
and with a wheel this doesnt apply its just generally easier
i just put the 10 kg at 15 so i dont spin out as easy yet its not too heavy so you can still catch the first
they slow down near the end anyways

also if you want to be cheesy there is a small hole at the bend before the last curve on the right side its just enough to fit a cart trough but this might have been patched already becouse its been a while since i actually drove this. wether it still works or not, it used to be that when you got trough the gap with a certain speed it would "reset" you on the finish straight instead of the bend before the last curve, but when you would go trough too slow it would reset you at the bend like its supposed to be.

Feather the throttle and shift up early to avoid wheelspin. Shift down quickly if you need to but don't steer under accelaration, keep the wheels straigh as much as you can when powering out.

Remember, the buttons are touch sensitive. Press gently for a more gradual response.


DS3 user, all buttons and no stick.

Gah, I hate this and I'm using the wheel! Can't imagine what it's like using the controller.
The trick for me was to switch the wheel to 200 degrees rotation. I was not able to countersteer fast enough with the 900 degrees.
 
Its a strange one this, i was banging out consistent fast laps and still only getting second place. The race where i actually wont wasn't that fast compared to some of the times i had. I think its more getting lucky with the AI.

But did find it helpful putting ballast right over the back wheels. Between 10-15Kgs, then gradually taking Kg off every so often. Feathering the throttle helps too.

I changed the gear ratio to max Speed 150, this helped alot, from the start I caught up. Then I changed to automatic gearshifts so I could 100% concentrate on driving, this helped a bit too I guess. I tried to drive as clean as possible and not to push the overtaking. I think that was the key, I managed to slipstream the last corner and the straight so I stayed close to the leader. In the end I managed to overtake him beginning of the 8th lap and stayed ahead of him sweating bullets to not **** it up. xDDD

Wow and all for one stupid yellow star but now International A is complete. Yay :D

Again, thanks for all the tipps! Greatly appreciated, I was about to give up..

Guess you didn't play the Red Bull X Challenge on GT5 huh?

I have GT5 100% completed including the RedBull Challenge. The X drives and handles completely different to the carts in GT6, while the X car is glued to the ground and you "only" have to get used to the Speed and the reaction time you need to not drive it into every wall the carts have serious traction issues, coupled with the unfair race, this cart challenge is way more difficult than the RedBull CHallenge in GT5.
 
Like others said, dump some wait on the rear end, slide the max speed slider down a few notches and do the engine rebuild. That should help ease the burden. Keep at it, you'll eventually get it.
