SEPTEMBER 4--While we normally don't concern ourselves with speeding arrests, we're making an exception in the case of one Dr. William Faenza. The 35-year-old New York City man was arrested Sunday after Pennsylvania cops clocked his 1997 Lamborghini Diablo going a remarkable 182 mph on State Road 443 (a 55 mph zone). According to the below criminal complaint, a tipsy Faenza was not only moving at Jeff Gordon speeds, he was driving recklessly and sped away from pursuing cops. After getting stuck in traffic at about 6 PM, Faenza, a research chemist who was in the area visiting family, refused police orders to exit the blue sports car, but finally relented and "stumbled out of the vehicle." Faenza failed a field sobriety test, which cops administered after smelling booze on his breath and noting that his eyes were bloodshot. Faenza is now facing a variety of charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and reckless driving.

Wow ...

Wow, that's a pretty crazy story. But who wouldn't speed with that beauty of a car, really.. :)

---

A few days ago, BTW, my brother got pulled over for doing 53 in a 40.

Anybody got a BS flag lying around?

The man's a research chemist who can afford a Lamborghini. I don't think he'll have a whole lot of trouble with the fine portion at least. Maybe having his license taken away for a while would get him depressed, but he can more likely than not afford to do that more than the average person.

It's a very good thing he didn't hurt the car; it's an even worse thing that the law-abiding geeks like me don't get to drive Diablos.

Is it possible that he'll go to jail for a couple months?

I've seen a guy in a Mustang pass me at 140MPH when I was travelling at 65MPH. Pretty neat.

Did anyone else notice that he was drunk?

Yeah, I clocked that.

Having driven at 146mph whilst fully alert and with not a trace of alcohol in my system, I can say that you really need (as in more so than normal) all your faculties whilst on the south side of 100.

At that sort of speed, and with enough alcohol to fail a breath test, you are as an unexploded bomb. Lock him up, sell the car and give the proceeds to the local Air Ambulance.

Giles.

South is down. North is up. Look at any map for proof that I am right.

We've been through this before.

But it depends on the dash layout where the "pole" is. Which means that for anything up to some variable number (which is different in many cars) it would be "north" for faster, whereas anything over that variable number would be "south" for faster. Too confusing.

And what about digital displays?

Faster = higher numbers. Higher = up. North = up. Faster = North. Q. E. D.

If down is South, then faster is South.
BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE TRAVELLING FASTER THAN 110 mph. Before that, faster is up/north. It makes no sense to do it that way, because you have to change direction at some point from north to south. And on some other car, where 60 mph is the "north pole", then south is faster over 60 mph, not 110 like the Diablo.

Whereas my way makes it such that faster is always north, at any speed, in any car.

The other way makes no sense at all.

I drove a Nissan Micra once where the "north pole" was at 40mph. But I think you would have had to have dropped it from a very large height to get it to do 100mph anyway...

   sounds like my sisters old Toyota corolla...

AHHHH fooey, I say take it to the autobahn.j/k. That is REALLY stupid though, of course he was drunk;but would you let someone who you knew was drunk leave the bar(or wherever)drunk, KNOWING that he owns a Diablo.

Oh, I'd let him leave; but I'd drive his car - it's the responsible thing to do :trouble:. He'd just sit and watch/vomit/pass out.

Yeah If my friend owned a diablo I'd always be the designated driver....not because I get to drive a diablo but because "real friends don't let friends drive drunk"....lol yeah right, I just wanna drive
