1970 Plymouth Duster,ex drag car.Has been stripped down,a lot of parts found their way into another race vehicle.The car,for being a '70 is remarkably solid,aside from the surface rust in various places,frame is real nice and solid,has sub-frame connectors put in to tie the frame together,the wheel tubs have been pilfered to another car,interior is gutted.Looking at the picture showing the rear end (7-1/4") obviously is not a racing rear end,(just stuck under car to make it a rolling chassis),but you can see where the springs are mounted,as opposed to where they used to be,(inboard mounted spring hangers),guessing this car had either an 8-3/4" Mopar rear or a Dana 60,possibly even a Ford 9",has a driveshaft safety loop,full roll cage,fiberglass hood and scoop,fiberglass rear deck lid,it still has the charging post's coming out of the rear valance for a quick charge (battery mounted in trunk),kill switch is gone,fuel cell (mounted in trunk) is gone,dash is completely gutted,some goofy steering wheel in place (just to be able to push car around),judging by hole location in the floorboard tunnel,and missing clutch pedal (was there at one time) it was a 4 spd. in it's heyday.A lot of interesting things about this car,I will know more about it when I see the owner on Tuesday (talked to his wife,I got 1st dibbs on this thing).This car might have a bit of history to it,who knows ? I feel sure this car can be had for a song and a dance judging by her statements about it. We'll see.

Seeing as how the cost of racing anymore is out of sight , probably will end up Pro-Streeting it. Engine , trans, rear are no problems , just a fingers touch away.Interior,probably will just mount 2 front buckets, and 1/8" aluminum plate the rest of it,then off to paint she goes !
 
oooooooooooooooooooh veeeeeeeeery nice find!!!! awesome stuff, loose that hood and mount a correct 70 style pro-stock scoop.

Man dont pro street it, turn it into a 70's style street car, you know, 12- in-wide Cragars, crazy paint, side pipes, a 70s street freak. You owe it to the car's heritage!
 
It would probably cost more to bring it back as a 70's street freak , as opposed to a pro streeter. ( IDK ) , still tossing ideas about.
 
looks like you can rescue that even if you wanted to do a full resto or resto mod! last time I saw one that good was a stripped out Sattelite and cuda my stepdad threw out (one of MY cars went with that batch).

keep us informed...I'd like to see what's done with that.
 
Is 'assfault' supposed to be spelled that way? I know it's meant to be a combination of ass and asphalt but it looks really weird :lol:

Anyway it should look good when it's all bought back to it's former glory, I love the basic look of it.
 
If you get by the paint peeling , and a few minor surface rust areas , it is really a solid car. The chrome bumpers were painted , so that helped preserve the chrome itself , they do look good. Suppose it's because it spent the majority of it's life on the drag strip , never got to see an Ohio winter. :lol:. Will keep updates coming.

PS: a friend of mine just yesterday offered me a 440 for it. 💡 yowza !!!
 
There you go dude, 440 70s street freak, get some dual quads and fenderwell headers spitting out side pipes, some candy apple red paint with panel painting and heavy pinstripping and 12-inch-wide Cragars in the rear with a Dana, a four speed with a T-handle, Sun tach, velour interior with half cage and voilá, 70 Duster with character and torque. Not a billet part in sight, oh yes.
 
Oh, no. Please, anything but '70s. *shudder.*

I say while it's stripped and engineless you get out the ol' seam-welder and add some structural rigidity.

More than likey, I am going to stay with the original intentions :

Pro street
360 small block , the 440 has me thinking though 💡
A-833 4speed w / pistol grip shifter
8-3/4 Chrysler rear end w / probably 3.91 gears
B-body Hemi leaf springs

Gathering more info for this car as soon as owner comes back from his Florida get-a-way. It has some racing heritage behind it ( track record holder !!! ), will post more info as soon as I can gather it all.
