1991 GTO is the EU model

Los Angeles,
I finally figured out what model that Mitsubishi is. It's a European model that was rated at 285bhp and came with 13G turbos instead of 9Bs for the Autobahn, but the larger turbos didn't make the car much faster.
You can identify that it's EU spec by the MMC decal on the back, turbo writing on the side, and most importantly fog lights which were mandatory on EU models.
The only confusing thing is all the cars have J spec speedometers that stop at 115-120mph.

I'm waiting on a second generation (1994-1999) model to drop as this one is no good.

Are you sure it’s the European model? The JDM-Spec GTO also had fog-lights and the MMC decal.

I’m unsure about the Twin-turbo decals, however I would assume that those were an optional extra.

Yep, it was actually named 3000GT (most likely taken from its engine displacement)...
Even the American version is called like that. I still remember both the 3000GT and GTO were actually present in the older titles at the same time, with the main difference being the steering wheel configuration.

I stand corrected. Now I'm back at square one! That second response looked identical to the EU to me. As we all know Japan had the 276bhp rule, so I don't know where the 285 bhp is from

Yeah, Mitsubishi needed to rename it in some regions differently so that it won't cause confusion there regarding its own identity.
This is true

this one is no good.
Seriously do you think car is no good because you think its european(which isnt) model?

What the hell is wrong with you? Even if it was european model i still would still be glad because pd added it to game. I still would be glad if they add this instead of trueno.

The car in GTS is clearly the JDM-only GTO Twin Turbo. Otherwise it would have been named 3000GT (Europe) or 3000GT VR-4 (North America). So the Twin Turbo decal behind the doors is most definitely correct for the Japanese version.

I wouldn't read too much into the horsepower specification in GTS, as it's only slightly different to the official numbers. Maybe PD made their own measurements and went with their own readout. It's no secret that performance specifications provided by manufacturers aren't always entirely accurate.

I think you misunderstood that part. His post was specifically highlighting later models over the early one that was added to the game.

The old model featured in GTS has a five-speed transmission with poor gear ratios for competitive driving, whereas the models from 1994 and later received a six-speed transmission with shorter ratios. That's the "no good" thing about the oldest versions if you ask me.

The 5 speed kills me. I owned a 96 VR4 and they're two different cars!

Also the EU version is one of the best, it comes with higher output turbos stock...

Dude, what were you thinking? You should know that already, since that's what your username implies about it.

Kidding aside, PD could have added the more updated version of this model instead but this one's already in the game so we should just learn to appreciate it.

Maybe Im missing something, of course there's the GTO / 3000GT renaming, but if you still had any doubt whether it's the Japan one, wouldn't you just have to check which side the steering wheel is on?

The UK model would also be RHD.

The ratios are truly awful, and unfortunately they're like that in real life as well
I had a 96 3000GT VR4 and the new 6 speed, extra power and torque, and gear ratios made it fast as hell. Mine was stock besides a K&N FPIK and I ran a best of13.28@103.1, always consist 13.3-13.4 ETs.
If they don't put a damn Lotus Esprit and a second gen GTO/VR4 in this game, I may just play GT5 til they drop. Yes I'm picky like that.
The lack of cars in this game is a real turn off - the graphics are amazing, so is the driving dynamics.

GTO is the one in RHD form and also the original model from Japan.

They made an EU, US and J spec models all AWD and Twin Turbocharged. The EU model has larger turbos, I still think this is an EU model but I may be wrong. Some EU models were RHD

You're probably correct, it's an early J spec model

yeah but UK models of Japan cars in GT? never seen one, not that I pay very close attention..
PD used to hold track days in the UK where the team would image- and audio-capture loads of cars, some Japanese.

You don't have to look far to find "UK" cars in GT's history. The MX-5 was a Europe-only car (NA was Mazda Miata in North America, Mazda MX-5 in Europe, Eunos Roadster in Japan; all other generations were Mazda MX-5 Miata in North America, Mazda MX-5 in Europe, Mazda Roadster in Japan) and the cars in GT3/4/5/6 were all right-hand drive, thus UK cars.

Although they weren't because they had Japanese market trim names.

I still think this is an EU model but I may be wrong.
The first clue that it isn't a European model is that it's a 1991 car, and Europe didn't get the car at all until late 1992. The zeroth clue is that it's called "GTO", and it wasn't sold as "GTO" anywhere outside Japan (not for confusion's sake as noted above, but for legal reasons) and possibly Australia. The European car was called "3000GT".

It's too early to be a European car and it has the wrong name.

As we all know Japan had the 276bhp rule, so I don't know where the 285 bhp is from

A friend of mine imported one of these and took it on a dyno about 2 weeks after it landed. It put down 293bhp. A local specialist asked him 'how much power do you want it to have?' shortly before adjusting a small screw under the bonnet. It then ran with 348 bhp.

This isn't a story of 'you can make a dyno read whatever you want' it's a point that whilst the gentleman's agreement existed, most of them were either down-tuned to ~276bhp or never really put down 276bhp in the first place. You really think the R34 GTRs were pootling about with only 276bhp? of course not.

Always found the "Gentleman's agreement" abit suspect considering the cars seemed to perform abit better then that.

Very true, especially the 2G model that the US market got in 1994. They are extremely fast for a stock 90s car, around the same time as an R32/R33 Skyline GTR - 0-60 in 4.8-5.0, 1/4m 13.0-13.4@101-104mph. If you need proof i have it :)

It was all BS. They made the same numbers all around despite saying 276.

You're absolutely correct about all of the above. Sorry, my bad. Thank you.

Here's to hoping they put in a second gen model so it actually accelerates in 3rd!

If this is literally the only thing that is bothering you about the car, then just plonk the correct gearbox settings in to a 'fully customisable transmission' and you'll be fine. All ratios for various GTO/3000GTs can be found here:

Take your pick and stop wishing for precious new cars to be mere duplicates of existing ones.

Yeah that was the first thing I did, but thanks lol
And it's not a mere duplicate, it has a different body style, no stupid electronic gadgets, lower weight, and a 6 speed - it runs vastly different numbers.

I'll wish for what I want thanks.

As this is the worst GT to date (hardly any cars, stupid lv2-lvx cars ****, terrible upgrade system, terrible 1p mode, I can go on and on) with only graphics and sound making it different, this game could use duplicate models. The offerings now are pure **** Lotus isn't even in the game, and waiting for patches is no fun for anyone.

Also sorry for the attitude, I'm new and coming under fire left and right. I'm still learning how to navigate this website. I apologize.

Dude, remember what folks told you about double posting in this forum? You should try to minimize it as possible. Just a friendly reminder. No pun intended.
