1st person view or 3rd person view

The reason the 3rd person view feels "sluggish" or that it doesnt respond correctly is because of the camera movement. ya see the car actually obeys your controller/wheel the same as it would with 1st person, but the 3rd person camera does not "stick" right behind you. so there is a short delay when you start to turn and when the camera moves. so unless your closely watching the car (and not the road!) you wont really notice the car moveing until the camera has shifted to catch up to where the cars rear end has moved to. its a bit annoying to say the least, but i find the 3rd person view better for me. as for seeing the dashboard and steering wheel in my peripheral IRL, i DO. and seeing the edges of the car? Do you not see the boundries of the hood in front of you? :p
But to be honest, i would MUCH prefer the view that is placed dead center on the roof of the car. just a bit behind the windshield, this view is the perfect combo of 1st/3rd person. as i can now see exactly where and when the car is turning (1st person) and i can see the boundries of the car as to not hit the walls (3rd person). not to menntion the sense of speed (especially with F1's) is amazing! it really REALLY pisses me off  to see this view come up in the replays (race option) and not be able to use it in race! along with the many other views they have. AHHH!! it would be so much more fun

First person all the way. I seem to jerk the car around in 3rd person view. I like the look of third person though (man I LOVE to look at the butt.. er back of the 787b :D ).

I suck using third person. If you never use anyting but first person you learn the outer boundaries of the car and have no problem hitting the walls, etc. I like to look at the cars too but thats what replay is for. ;)

Cudos on the third person evaluation, I feel the same way. Although about seeing the boundries of the hood of your car, when we teach performance driving we call this follow the leader syndrome. A lot of people follow the hood of their car around a corner rather then lift their vision and look ahead. In a formula racecar there's no way you can see the front nose of your car so you just kind of get used to where it is, even when your just a few inches from another person or the wall. If all your doing is looking at how close your hood is to his bumper, chances are when he brakes you'll be kissing his tailights. Lift your vision and look ahead, please!

All my life I been using the third person and automatic gears, but now I been playing first person view and Standar gears and it feels great, and now If I play ythird person view the car feels so weird.
ok peace

I have been using manual gears more and more, but a lot depends on how the controller is configured. Some are just plain clumsy. I am right handed and can have problems with my left hand if I am asking it to do too much. However, it just takes practice and you get an immediate improvement in your lap times.

One game I still have problems with in manual are the F1 games. The cars do not generate enough engine braking and downshifting seems to have little effect.

One game I do struggle with in 1 person is VRally 2. The car is bouncing up and down so much it can get you dizzy.

I have to agree with KC, He does suck using the 3rd person view.:smilewink:rotfl::smilewink

We have a freind that comes over and races with us and he drives 3rd p.v. and it's hard to even watch, every turn I think, "Man your goin straight off". He doesn't. Weird :p

I've always used the 3rd person view in all the other racing games. But in GT3 I decided to try 1st person and it just feels better. More preciseness and a better sense of speed. When I try to play GT3 in 3rd person, the car always seems to oversteer for no apparent reason and I can never turn in a good lap time.

Oddly, GT3 is the only racing game that I play with the 1st person view. In all other games, 3rd person always seems to work better. Maybe its because of the superior graphic capabilities of GT3, or the better turning physics. :smilewink

automatic sucks! -(IMO) I've been using "manual" and the closest to real view you can, since I started playing driving games back on my Amiga 2000, (man that was a kickin' computer for the times. Dual testdrive 2 looked better than Sega, you could tear out gears and blow your engine :D ) As for F1, "manual" is a hard thing to get used to but it's great when you do. What you gotta remember is there are brakes made, and adjustable, to slow the car down ;) I think you should be able to adjust your redline, or lack there of, after you buy certain stuff. Torn out gears would be great too! (on any driving simulator. I like Viper Racing's clutch option as well)
peace,

I got the same thing. I drive first person view all the time.
When i try a lap third person view, i ram every wall on the track :D

:rotfl: I am glad I am not the only one :D

All first person for me, but every now and then, I'll look at 3rd to see the view for a second, and then go back to 1st.

I always used the far 3rd person in GT1 & GT2, but the unlocked camera and low angle make it much harder. And since the 1st person camera seems higher than it was in the first two, it's the only way to go on GT3.

1st person is a must for me... whenever i try 3rd person ("chase"), i ALWAYS smash into the wall. The car seems to oversteer, like the motions are exaggerated a bit. In 1st person view however, it feels very precise, and it's easier for me to see my tach (i hate the 3rd person view's, where the tach is placed to the far right). However, i too would love a cockpit view. ^_^
