Well, we've just recently passed the half way point of the first ever two-point-three championship. I want to thank you all right now for you commitment to this series thus far. You guys have been great!

Over the season and during my time on GTPlanet I've learnt a lot about how to run a tournament and what NOT to do, I'd like to think in some small way that's contributed, and so I'd like to hear from you guys, the ones who made it happen.
I've got MAJOR plans for next year (with so many tournaments kicking off at the moment it would be suicide to launch another one now, plus I've got lots on)...I'm planning to expand way beyond anything you've seen so far on GTPlanet, I've even got a few series lined up(check the bottom of this post). But none of them are likely to make what I view as a largely successful tournament even better in the coming years, (even though this is probably the first and last 2.3 Sports Car Championship...) unless I've got commited racers, and that to a very good extent, I have. For that I thank you all.

Anyway, down to business. I'd really like to know what you liked, didn't like, any ideas, comments, things you'd like to see in future tournaments and any sort of rant you want to get off your chest about the Two-Point-Three Sports Car Championship.
Thanks again guys, the floor is yours,
Danisfast

The Gran Turismo V8 World Championship
This tournament will encompass all 62 (so far!) V8 machines in GT4. With the new system I'll have in place, it'll keep things both extremely close, and interesting till the very last lap! American muscle, British lightweight engineering, European luxury motors and brutal Aussie supercars are all eligable for this entirely original new tournament that will hopefully be out before GT5 is released LOL!!
The World GT Championship
I've noticed that there are a few GT based tournaments running, finishing, or getting started, but what if we combined ALL of the different GT class motors into one giant league?? I know when I was playing GT3, the World Cup I did the most frequently wasn't the Professional GT World Cup, it was the Amateur one. It wasn't because I was crap either. It was because I love touring cars, and so I've moulded all the ideas from this (the Two-Point-Three) tournament, and a few others to make the first World Gran Touring Championship on GTPlanet!! (well, first as far as I know!)
It'll be run on arcade mode, thus giving us chance to balance ALL of the cars. Extensive testing is already underway to try and make the first round as even as humanly possible. It'll be one of my longer tournaments using the best tracks in Gran Turismo and we will cover nearly 2000km over the course of the season!! Over 100 cars are eligible (bet'cha didn't think THAT many could fit into one GT tournament right?) making sure that even when this tourney takes off, theres room for everyone...
EDIT: This tournament is on hold pending another tournament that this one is a bit too similar to. It's the GTP Lemans series, in the Long Race Series forum. If you guys like the sound of this, then you should definitely check that out!!

I'm liking the V8 Series, once again, a distinct and clever idea enhanced by a very flexible amount of automobiles! You have a knack for this stuff, Dan. 👍 Is this once again running off the tried-and-true PWR idea you use?

Cheers,
Jetboy

I too like the idea of the V8 championship, and if it did use the PWR I would join it as well:D.
I just wish my race series would have done this well:(, but I did learn on what to do and what not to do so that helps alot.
When you do start a new series maybe I can help out too:).
But one thing is I can't beleave that your series is already half over:(.

Thanks guys, yeah maybe I could use a bit of help!
Well, it takes a bit of explaining, but I'm going to encompass everything I've learnt so far about keeping things close. Although I did it as much as I could've at the time, there's still a lot of room for alterations and room for much improvement! There are quite a lot of ways you can make things equal, and allow for everyone to compete for the championship at the final round!!!
So what did you guys think about the 2.3 Championship?? Anything you think I should've included, or left out???
Thanks,
Danisfast

The only thing I dont like about this championship is its too short, only 5 rounds, I wish it was more like 10 or something. I think that 4 days for quallifying and 4 days for racing is perfect cause somethings always going on, unlike 7 day races where you spend the first few days talking about stuff then just waiting for the results for the final 3 or 4 days of the week.

EDIT: I like the sound of the V8 championship aswell :)

EDIT: Oh yeah and the other thing I didnt like was the Enduro at the end of the season, but thats only cause im too lazy to do them :D

LOL!!!....OK thanks for your thoughts.
Well if anyone else has got a thing or two to say, even if you didn't compete, your comments are welcome here!!!
Thanks,
Danisfast

I agree with east about the series being too short, and about the 4 days for
qualifier and 4 days for the race. I don't have anything else bad to say:).

So, how long would you have it run for then?? If it ran that long, do you think you'd be able to stay commited to it?? Everyone knows the biggest series killer is lacking commitment from drivers and organisers, so theres always that to consider....

How about this, go with just 8 races and see how that works out because I
know I could stay on for that long easy:).

True, OK thanks for your thought...well, all my future tourneys are longer than this anyway...though I've also got more enduros etc.
I think next time I'll also shorten, though only just slightly, the time to submit per round, maybe bring it back by one or two days per round.
Thanks,
Danisfast

Hey Dan,

Though I didn't compete in 2.3 the idea of a V8 Championship is very eye catching. If you could provide a little more information on the V8 Championship that would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I do like the V8 idea, I'll probably be competing if it goes ahead...

OK, with regards to the V8 World Championships, its very early days yet. I've got a first draft for a schedule written up.
I'm most likely going to exploit GT mode and the fact that most of the V8s fit nicely into a few races that you can find in the GT mode calendar.
Don't worry!! It won't be any of those pokey, random three lappers!! In fact, so far I'm very pleased with the race calendar and I'm thinking of extending the current calendar from eight rounds to ten or even twelve.

I'm also looking into several possibilities at the moment that you are free to contribute to...

1. Running more than one class. Though I've often found that its not really the best thing to do. But I'm considering racing catagories, Muscle catagories, as well as briefly considering extreme catagories, spoiler catagories, NOS catagories etc. Obviously I'm not going to run them all, but they're (ATM) under consideration.

2. The exact formula under which to run the cars. I'm currently going under a new formula but its a bit of a pain in the arse. ATM I'm using a combination of my old power-to-weight ratio with a fixed limit on both power and weight, allowing the heavier cars the ability to compete on a strictly level playing field. Its difficult to decide what would be the most fair though...

3. Spoilers, NOS, and whether or not I should allow them.

I'm hoping to have most of it cleared up very soon.

Again, any thoughts would be welcome!

Aha, I see. Well, to address some points, or at the least, share thoughts:

1. Multiple classes: It's always somewhat appealing, to cruise around with similar cars in your class and not going for outright victory. You can have your fun driving an easier-level car, but the cost being a small mistake can spell disaster to your final time. Often times lower-classes have a bit more of a tighter series, because the drivers put it all out for that last tenth. All that's well and good. But.....you need a really large base to be successful. When you start off a series based on 27-or-so interested people, that dwindles to fifteen early runners and then down to 7-9 Consistancies. Pretty bad when you try to work three classes.

So, that being said, moving on to point two. I really, really like this idea. It was easily displayed in the current series that despite the more heft, cars with more power generally do better. The straights often over-compensate for the number of turns, and the turns are usually gentle grade anyway. People in their GSX-R/4's got their asses handed to them by a Seven-hundred horse M5. So, big props for the evening of power and weight levels.

Point Three: I call bollocks on the using of Nitrous. Really, hear me out on this. Say we have two similar weight cars with similar power. Hmm.... Say, a 1370 kg Charger with 540 hp, versus a GD Spec-C Imprezza, 526 hp with stock weight. Both are equipped with Nitrous.

Now, the Imprezza gets a 100 Shot and the Charger gets only a 50. Tell me: Where is the equality in this? Yes, the Imprezza will, in theory, run out quicker over the Charger. But, use the nitrous sparingly, and you still have 100 hp on demand as opposed to the 50. Just squirt a shot straight out of a corner, that Charger is toast. So, here developes this headache of finding cars that have equal size tanks of Nitrous. But, wait, different cars react to Nitrous differently too... Yeah, you know what? Pike nitrous. Leave it out.

So, that my assessing of your new developing points.

1. Maybe. It's plausible, but only if you get one hell of a base beneath it.
2. YES!!! Definitely.
3. Punt nitrous out of the picture, but the spoilers are fine.

Cheers,
Jetboy
