My Sedona Red 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS is no longer with me anymore... It was taken away for me. It was an awsome car that I sadly only kept for a mere five months. It however was my first step towards a decent car. It started me on my life towards autocrossing and becoming a Subaru-nut.

The GC8s are in high demand for people that plan to put different engines and more power into them than I would ever know what to do with. I truly hope the owner will treat it well and give it a good life, even it is a punishing-high performance one.

Enough of the past. On to the present and future... Introducing the new addition, my Java Black 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX.

Hehe, I'm just gloating. I went into the dealership just looking for a piece to get the third eye to work, and a salesman said he wanted to buy the car. Supposedly GC8 Subarus are a big tuner car.

Hehe, yes, I was going to fix that.

So how'd you land that one? No STI?

Thanks.

Haha, well I never spend money on anything else. I only spend money on the car payment, insurance and gas. Otherwise, the cash just sort of sits there in the bank. So the gears started turning in my head, and have been for a while. This was just the catalyst I needed. All I need to buy now is a turbo timer then I can start accumulating cash again for... something...?

The STi was in consideration, sadly someone pinched me and I came back from dreamland.

Wish I had that problem. :irked:

What the hell do you need one of those for?
Maybe 10 years ago when turbo reliability and construction were far from cutting edge, and bearing technology sucked donkey sack, a turbo timer was a good thing. But now they are useless wastes of money.

then I can start accumulating cash again for... something...?

Tires, wheels and suspension.

Hahaha, but you don't live with you parents still.

Really? I just don't feel safe shutting it down after running it down right away. I've never heard people say its okay to do that.

Tires, wheels and suspension.

I will need an extra set of tires/wheels for autocrossing, but that'll be further down the road. WRX wheels are about $400, hopefully I can just trade someone for my extra RS wheels. To keep in G-Stock I can only replace the struts, and they're just fine right now. To test out the stability, I threw it around on a residential side street at 1am. No body roll, straight and as true as an arrow. So, nothing right now.... Maybe a bit later.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about shuting down a turbo engine.
Maybe if you were dog'n your car at the track, take her for a warm down drive around the block or something. But you really don't need to have a timer, especially with a fatory turbo.
If I recall correctly, turbo timers were used when turbos bearing efficencies were really poor and the risk of fusing the bearing to the inside of it's housing was high due to the extreme heat they created and lack of flowing oil when the engine was shut down. So the turbo timer just kept your car running for a few more minutes after you shut the car off. But most turbos nowadays have ceramic bearings that wont fuse or melt.

But that's not needed so much anymore.

Interesting. I don't know.... I'm rarely ever rushing to get out of my car, so I think I'll probably just leave it running all the same.... No offense, but I'm paranoid as all hell.

Hey man... great new Impreza. I do like the styling of the older Impreza better but both look great. Only if you could afford the STi ;) 300HP :D

Div, the tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE92s 205/55/R16. The same as my RS, but the wheels are actually a half inch shorter.

M-Spec, Thank you :) What do they run? WRXs can do a quarter mile in 14.1 seconds, unfortunatly not up here in Denver. Oh, and by the by, drop the R. Goomba. :D

rollazn, yeah, even though these new ones look much better than the bug eyed ones, I think the GC8s are still far more aggressive. Unfortunatly dropping a USDM WRX engine in there is more than I want to do.

On the issue of turbo timers...just use full synthetic oil and don't beat on the car in the last few minutes before you reach your destination. That's what I do.

Hey Goomba, my cousin just bought a blue STi with gold rims for 32K even in today. I havent seen it yet but im sure he will take pictures... as soon as he send them to me, ill be sure to upload it here.

By the way, my cousin is 19 he has a STi. His younger brother 16 has a 350z now is that crazy or what?!?

They have 4 cars in their garage
Dad-Lexus LS430
Son 19- Eclipse (modified) and WRX STi
Son 16- 350z

now is that crazy or what? How am i going to stack up against them... lets just wait until i get to buy a car, Ill be the first one in my family to rock a GT-R :sly:

**by the way i probably wont get a GT-R. By probably i mean WONT get a GT-R... ill be the only kid rocking in his dad's minivan **

Ser, right now that shouldn't be too hard. Break in period means keeping it below 4,000 to 4,500 rpms. After 2,000 miles though...... :D

rollazn, Sheesh, that is nuts. How is his driving record? Insurance for the STi and the 350z?

Sort of scared today. Driving it around there is a slight squeek coming from the back of the car when it goes over some bumps. It's not all the time, and not over all bumps, but just sometimes it squeeks. I've also had a couple of times when starting it, the parking brake light and ABS light stay on. Turning the car off and then on again fixes this, but still, concerning. I'll take her in Monday to see whats wrong, but can anyone offer any knowledge of what this might be, to put me a bit at ease?

Yeah, they are rich mofo. His driving record is clean, no wrecks. Yes they have insurance for the 350z not sure about the STi yet they just bought it yesterday.

Sheesh. I've had one $6,000 USD claim for a wrecked Nissan Altima that the courts luckily lost the ticket. Speeding ticket and wreckless driving ticket as well. Nothing for about nine months as I can't afford any more. That makes the insurance go from $280 a month for the RS to $350 for the WRX.

damn that i feel for you man. How much do you think its going to cost to insure a STi... he has two speeding tickets thats all. How much do you estimate it is going to cost to insure a 300hp car?

No idea really. I doubt the speeding tickets hike it up substansially. The salesman told me that the STi is in the same insurance classification as the 2.5TS (Natural aspiration Impreza Wagon). So not too much if thats the case.

most kids with rich parents tend to not know the value of the dollar. in someways im glad my parents never bought me a car. i worked and finally bought my own car when i was 19. i know a few rich friends who drive m3s and benz e classesa mong others. even though they have nice cars, they didnt earn it.

oh yeah, congrats on the new subbie. now all you need is a sti spoiler and mud flaps!!! :D

Keyword... "most" Even though, his parents did buy him the STi... he paid alittle of it.. like a few thousand at most. He did also work for them for free around 2 months with no paying so i guess that adds alittle more? He do know a value of a dollar. I do too. My dad is the cheapest guy on planet earth.. so i would know a value of a dollar. Tim (my cousin with STi) he also knows the value of a dollar, our family wasnt rich when he was growing up. Our parents had to work all day and all night at our resturant, even now my parents work all day and all night. I only see them about a few hour everyday. Most likely my parents would pay for my car, they want me to succed in school and study to get a good college and education. They dont want me to worry about money and cars just yet. If i get a car it probably wont be like theirs. Ill probably just drive his minivan... No im serious.

Yeah... Goomba.. congrats. Only if you have enough money to buy a STi :(

So he paid 2k out of a 32k car? Whoa thats not much. Now if he paid his own insurance... Ive got some people that got their own brand new car from their parents and most of them broke it within 6 months.

Yeah... so what if he didnt have to pay. I bet if your parents who offer to buy you a car youll take it. Maybe his parents want to buy him the car dont want him to work.. just do good in school i mean so what if you dont like for your parents to buy you a car then so be it but majority of the parents do buy their children his/her first car.

Fine, you know people who has a new car and "broke it" thats good for them. Dont judge people by what they have. You thinking just because his parents buy him the car that he has no value for a dollar and is a rich snob that is just bull****.

You might be one of them people who dont like to take people's stuff without paying for it. I respect that alot but just because someone's parents was nice enough and could afford to buy him the car without him having to work for it thats nice too. Hes 19... he started out with a eclipse at age 16 through all those year he yet has been in a wreck. Knowing the person my cousin is, i doubt that he will "broke it" in the first 6 month.

Whoops. Sorry there, bud. No 'r' in Goomba.

They run mid-high 14s @ mid 93-95mph .. but I was really talking more about D-Stock, where the ITR and 330 own the roost.

No reason to make him feel like he bought the lesser car. There's nothing wrong with a WRX at all; it's a step up from what he was driving and that's all that is important.

That wasnt my intention at all and im sure Goomba knows that. I know that he rather have a STi then the WRX he have right now... who wouldn't? I said its too bad he couldnt afford the STi...

That was why i said its too bad he couldnt afford the STi which he rather have.

M-Spec, lol, :dunce: I always think of quarter mile times first, but whenever people argue about fast cars I always talk about their acceleration and handling and how they do in autocrosses. I believe there is one or two ITR that I've seen here a few times, not sure about the BMWs but rest assured. They'll get owned. :D

A few things I feel like updating about the WRX that no one else would care about, probably.

I've finally passed the 2,000 mile break-in period. In fact, the first day I really got to let it loose was it's first autocross! I managed to come in 10th of 17 in my division, beating all of the other stock WRXs, a BMW, and a SRT-4.

I got a promotion, so I'm getting a little extra cash flow. I've been talking this over with Alt in another thread, but I'm thinking about going with some new wheels. I'm looking good and hard at the Rota Downshifts in the gold color (check out Suby Dude for pics). I think it would look excellent on the black. They're relatively light, 17.3lbs and a full inch wider than the stock wheels. This means I can grab either 215s (maybe) or 225s (*nods head*). The tires are giving me hell, but I think I've narrowed it down between some Kuhmo MXs and Yokohama ES100s.

Also, I plan on getting a rear sway bar and endlinks to elimnate the WRX's understeer. Most out there are adjustable, and with a 20mm bar, the car is pretty much neutral. Which sounds perfect.

So ends my ranting. I'll post pictures whenever I get everything.
