So I had a broken PS3, and a Logitech DFP (was replaced with a G27).

I decided to fix my broken PS3 and order a 2nd copy of GT5 so I could play with someone else at my place. I got the replacement blu-ray lens in, installed it and the PS3 was working beautifully again.

Fired up GT5 on both PS3s and I am unable to connect to the same lobby with both of them originating from the same IP. I did have a wireless (cell phone) hotspot available, and connected one PS3 through that, and then it worked correctly, but I could not get both PS3s in the same lobby when they were on the same originating IP.

Is there a way to get this to work? Or is there a way to get LAN play out of GT5?

I've gotten two PS3's behind a single public IP (via NAT) and it worked fine: I would recommend the following:
  • Put the first PS3 in a DMZ using your router settings (best to set this PS3 on a static internal IP)
  • Make sure UPnP is enabled on your router and the 2nd PS3 has it enabled (network test will show it)

When you run a network test, both should show NAT 2. If you see NAT 3 it's not going to work.

This really comes down to having a capable router... if it's an older or malfunctioning router you are going to have issues. If you can update the router firmware it might help.

PS> No way to do a pure LAN setup... both PS3's will need to be on PSN (using different logins) and connect to the same lobby/lounge. They will use the LAN for communication so the communication between the two will be very fast, but will also need a constant connection to a PSN server to function.

PPS> I'm not claiming this is the only way it'll work... just the way I have it set up and I can confirm it works for me. I've had two people race in a 2.4 hour enduro (with several other drivers outside the LAN) using this setup.

Thank you, I will play with the routers when I get home, now that I know it is possible.
