To be fair, 'Merlot' doesn't sound excessively Japanese, although to say that the user isn't in the Japanese catchment is probably a supposition too far. Also, 30,000,000 exactly seems a bit of a co-incidence, unless that's the prize equivalent for one of the big payout B spec races.

Back before GT5 released, PD released screenshots of B-spec or online lounges, I can't recall exaclty, but all the user names were types of wines. Merlot has been used in other screenshots released by PD before updates IIRC.

And yeah, the Japanese credit system is different than ours and it seems this comes uo whenever screenshots are released that have the menus in them.
