To be fair, 'Merlot' doesn't sound excessively Japanese, although to say that the user isn't in the Japanese catchment is probably a supposition too far. Also, 30,000,000 exactly seems a bit of a co-incidence, unless that's the prize equivalent for one of the big payout B spec races.
Off topic, I wonder how much cr I'd have by now if there wasn't a cap...

I can confirm the credit cap is still alive and well. It hasn't changed.
