What do you mean by that, something like a Mustang has a V6 and an V8?
My interpretation was that he was asking the following:
Could you order the car with a V8 engine that was not the standard engine?

Yeah pretty much. Anything with a V8 would be excluded but something that was never offered with a V8 would be included.

I guess a better wording for my question would be "Was it ever offered with a V8?" Rather than an optional V8, as it can cause confusion.

I hope it doesn't change the answer to my question.

Technically, your question was answered correctly, based on the definition of the word optional. However, given the confusion, I will offer this hint:

The standard engine that the car was fitted with was a V8.
