GT-Motion
So I played just the other night, it was fine, shut off like normal, yesterday I went to turn it on, it turned on, the green light went off, then the system shut off completely, not even the stand by light was on.

Then, I push power again, it turns on just to standby only, red light, then I push it again, it turns on green, then back off again.

Here is a video:

Anyone who can point me to a DIY fix for this that works I will send you $20 PSN money for helping me out.

Take out the power cord, and let it sit for a while (an hour or even more). Then try turning it on again. That's how I fixed my mom's hairdryer, my old PC and various other electronics. I'm guessing its from overheating. Where is it placed, how hot is the room and how long were you playing?

I already did that :( I had it unplugged for like 6 hours when I left. Then I got home, plugged it all in and nothing.

Looks like you got RLOD( red light of death) . Look it up and google and you can sometimes fix it with just some tools laying around the house. Hope this helps.

Yea, I don't think its the RLOD because the RLOD blinks, this just turns on to green, then turns off.

Oh yeah...just noticed the video. Maybe its the same thing a RLOD but on the Slim. I don't know because I've never seen a Slim break yet.

If this happened to me I would rage. It looks like your PS3 is trolling you. The way it turns off and back on again.

Whats making me rage even more, is I have had 3 ps3's, never had any give me any trouble. So when I bought this special GT5 edition ps3 there is no real way to warranty it because it was bought in the u.s. and its a Japanese ps3. However PS3's dont break, so I was good to go for a whole year, and now this. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

It's the PSU and the only way of fixing that is to buy a new one, and since Sony doesn't sell components you're left with the 2nd hand market. With 0 reliability.

I had the exact same issue but on a Phat, after a few tries it went directly into YLOD state. So your PS3 is on the verge of dying.

Since you said you have 3 other PS3's maybe you could swap the PSU and give it a go?

On the bright side, what you really bought was the cool looking case of the PS3, so you could just replace it on a regular PS3 and pretend nothing ever happened.

I had a normal PS3, upgraded to the 40gb metal gear PS3, then upgraded to this Blue Japanese Slim PS3.

I really don't want to lose what I have with this system, I guess I will try finding a PSU online. The slims all came with universal power supplies, so I am sure I could find one. Also, this doubles as my Japanese DVD player.

Isn't the Sony warranty universal? Just make sure you get the identical model back.

As I said above, I was bout to buy another PSU when I gave the PS3 another boot and it YLOD on me.
So if you have the possibility of swapping a PSU and making sure that it's the exact source of the problem, then go ahea with getting another PSU. It would be awful to wait for it to be delivered, install it and then for the PS3 to give another error.

That's the problem, they just send a new one most of the times; as it costs them too much man power to dissassemble, isolate the problem and fix it.
Especially since they won't be able to guarantee that it will last the minimum. Everyone looses if they replace the components ship it back, only for the console to die again after 5 hours of use.

Another thing GT Motion, how old is the console? It takes roughly 2 years for all te heatsink paste to wear out and cause overheating. This is exactly the main problem that causes YLOD. If anyone's PS3 is older than 2 years, it's time to open it up and spread some new paste to prolongue the life.

Mine is exactly 2 years..... how many chips are there in total? I have a little bit of Matrix thermal paste left...

They can't really replace my console, unless they have the Blue limited editions available. It was bought a little over a year ago when GT5 came out. Its this one.

Phats will die quicker fro oveeheating due to bad interior design. The Slims should last longer. The reason information about YLOD on Slims is so scarse is because they haven't reached that point yet.

There are 2: CPU and GPU.

My 60GB Phat lasted 3 years and 9 months before dying. But when I opened it up to fix it (so I could sync my trophies and backup) the paste was basically inexistent.

Then your best bet is to put another PSU first and make sure that the problem is issolated to the PSU. I'd go ahead and play some hours on the PS3 (with temporeraly replaced PSU) just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

Under normal conditions the motherboard shouldn't start having issues this early. The PSU on the other hand can be affected by the electricity and how unstable that network can be. For example, my speakers safety burned out because they weren't recieving enough electicity (it was connected to a multi-plug thing).

PS3s do brake....👍. They have firmware and hardware errors. Look at the many broken slims on ebay:crazy:. Seems like the console is going into some sort of protection mode. Its easy to tell your using a converter for the AC current right? Since the US and japanese AC currents are different. Unless if its 18v psu is universal. Keep YLOD out imo, sony added new cpus to the PS3(I could be wrong if the YLOD still occurs). Sorry if it doesnt help, but google is always your best friend:tup:.

You don't need a converter for the PS3 slim. All slims have a universal PSU.

100-240v
