The Internet, IcemanGER and Soyfu (woot!) take their respective spots on the podium. east has an unexpectedly slow race (what happened, dude?).

While Ashley takes a break, I'll handle the race administration.

Thanks :)

Just sent mine in.

I feel confident for this race; I usually do very well on street courses, and, in this race, I finally got a good balance of mechanical grip on the front and downforce on the rear, making it almost impossible to spin in the troublesome chicane and very tidy over the kerbs in sectors one and three.

ive devloped a love hate track for this track ... my first run is like this:

1-30: pin ball
31-30: clean but slow
51-60: stupid fast and clean

i guess i should do this one over ... heh.

I'll hopefully get my time in tomorrow if that's alright. Had a big weekend at the actual Australian GP :)

sent.

i wish everyone had the same day ... waiting that extra day is a bit frustraiting :|

I agree, the split deadline is a bit confusing and frustrating. Would anyone have any objection to me changing the deadline (of future races) so that all times are due Sunday 11:59pm EST?

That's 8pm on the US west coast (PST), 5am (Monday) in the UK and 3pm (Monday) in Sydney, AU.

Time zone map:

EDIT:
This is for future races. The deadline for the Australian GP will be kind of lax as there seem to be some people with time-crunch issues.

Casio, tomorrow is fine but the sooner the better. 👍

Good F1 race down under. Like this weeks winner, it takes speed and skill to win and to stay off the walls  .

Time submitted.

Real sorry guys. I will not be able to compete in this race. It's 3:40 right now and I forgot that I have to go the the Football tonight just before 5....

well, if this race was done at the same time as the others, then it was finished 15 minutes ago +/-

when will we see results? :p i know im not on the podium, but, im curious to see how badly i did.

BTW, we've got a 2 week break before the next race...

Formula GT Gran Premio Fosters Di San Marino 2006. April 17-23
Circuit: Infineon Raceway Sports Car Course
Length: 2.52 miles
Laps: 76

2 week break? can weve an open hot lap testing at somewhere like deep forest or motorland?

 Holy Crappola. Thats a fast lap there SOYFU, could be a record. My fastest was in the 1'10.xxx range (in practice) and that was a wild lap to boot, but a 1'08.xxx Geez!!! Did you even lift at all anywhere????
31 seconds seperating the top five racers, some had a "perfect" race cause mine was very clean except 1 late spin which cost me about 6 seconds and i was pushing the whole race for my times.
pitting was 8,8,9,9,9,9,F 34 litres each run ending up w/ 1 or 2 litres left.
Congrats to the podium finishers and to SOYFU for helping keep the series alive and for having a smoking lap:cheers:

2nd. W00t :) , but only 6 submitted a time :indiff:

congrats to The Internet, well done. And Soyfu with his blistering fast lap must have been on a different strategy !? I pitted every 10 laps with 40 Liters of fuel and spun the damn thing 3 times.

I was surprised as anyone to see how fast my fast lap was, compared to everyone else. My best practice lap was 1'10.1xx but as the race went on (only did one run) I kept beating my time. It got to the point where a 1'10.xxx was a bad lap. I hit quite a few 1'09.xxx and just got the 1'08.754 on the lap before my last pitstop. In fact, I had planned to pit, but stayed out because I knew I was going to make a new FL.

I spun a few times and missed my pit (unintentionally) once. I definitely had a shot at 1st place, but just wasn't consistent enough (The Internet 👍). My pits were 8,16,33,40,46,53 (8,8,9,7,6,7,7). I think the tighter pit schedule helped me get my FL because my tires were still decent when I was light on fuel (after 6-7 laps).

At auto-gear 18, I took Turn 1 (90-deg right) in gear 4. This let me get on the throttle early without worrying about the tires spinning (as they would in gear 3).

Turn 2 (90-deg left, opens): Ideally, I would take this in gear 5 without braking (just lift throttle and downshift from gear 6). But when I was coming in too fast to do that, I would tap the brake and use gear 4.

Turn 3 (easy right): Stay to the right but off the curb (to avoid wheelspin).

Turn 4 (wide right-hand 180-deg): I would roll into this, downshift from gear 7 to 6 and then power through the whole way. Careful to stay wide until the end b/c the inside wall kind of juts out at the exit. If I was off the line, I was either in danger of hitting the inside corner or sliding out into the wall, on the left.

Turn 5 (medium left): This was the toughest part of the track for me. I would find a line and be happy for a few laps but then I would seem to lose it and have to find a new way. My favorite way was to brake early and power through in gear 5. But that was tricky and sometimes slower than just gliding through in gear 6 (careful to carry high entry speed all the way through the turn).

Turn 6 (esses): Some people were reporting trouble here. I didn't have any. My trick was to stay off the rumble strips as they tend to upset the grip of the rear wheels. If you stay on the tarmac, with full throttle, the downforce puts the FGT on rails.

Turn 7 (easy right): Finding the right braking point was hard, for me. I ended up deciding to brake later than I originally thought (almost right at the top of the hill) and then power through in gear 6.

Turn 8 (easy right): If I took turn 7 correctly, I would just go full throttle in gear 6 (sometimes just clipping the curb, though I generally tried to stay clear of it).

Turn 9 (easy left): I was consistently impressed by the FGT when taking this corner. In the push for faster and faster laps, I kept taking this at slightly higher speeds. Unless I made an error, I could glide in, downshift to gear 6, and then full throttle through the turn and down the hill.

Turn 10 (square-hairpin, right): Braking and downshifting, I would take the first half in gear 3 (lift throttle in the high RPM to avoid wheelspin) then aggressively cut the curb as I shift to gear 4. If I did it right, I would be acclerating up the hill and emerge from the ramp just as the lap timer hit 0'58.000. Ten more seconds to the start/finish and there's my FL.

Judging by your pit strategy compared to your fastest lap, I'd say that on lap times alone, you should've won, but I stopped only on the 10s. I ran faster laps than my FL in practice but put a lot more downforce on the rear (to keep the car through the esses) and took a lot off the front. This ended with my tyres all wearing at about the same rate and still running 1'11s even in the red.

Congratulations to you for fastest lap, though, and to Iceman, who looks to have run even more conservatively than I did.

Anyone else up for a non-championship race between now and San Marino?

Track/race ideas?

I'm thinking a revival of the Pacific GP at Aida, but run at Motorland in Arcade Mode. The original Pacific GP was 83 laps, and one arcade race can only go up to 50. However, I think that if we were to split it into two races and just add up the times, we could get a final time. Is anyone else interested in this idea?

How about a hot lap competition on Nurb? We'll be running 15 laps, there, soon and there's no substitute for practice laps. I could do a running leaderboard.

Or would you prefer a multi-lap race?

Anything's fine, I just want something to keep myself busy with GT4 during the intermission.

Damn I got lapped by every car on the grid  Lucky for me only five people raced or I may have lost my championship lead :sly:
