Predictions:

1st: M Schumacher
2nd: Massa
3rd: Alonso
4th: Button
5th: Rosberg
6th: Fisichella
7th: Trulli
8th: Webber

So yeah 3 Michelin runners in the points, if they are lucky. If it rains however..

Rosberg to finish ahead of Fisichella and Trulli!? This is as crazy as Ash’s prediction that Fisichella would win a few weeks ago.

And again, we Aussies get a delay of no less than 8 and a half hours – a race that starts at 3pm local time is being broadcast at 11:45pm. Channel 10, you suck. 👎

I'm absolutely gutted for Schumacher's retirement. He's still got a slim hope of winning the championship but obviously it's stacked pretty highly against that. Not a very entertaining race, but it seems the quality of the onboard pictures has improved a lot lately. Very little or no skipping and a much cleaner picture, some of the best onboard footage I've seen ever.

That's the first race engine failure that Michael has had for 5 years!

I am pleased with this result :). Fernando clinched the title last year in Brazil, and it looks like he should be able to do it again. I said after the Hungarian Grand Prix that the point gifted to Michael wouldn't matter. I had a crow, all ready to eat, but it looks like it won't end up affecting anything after all. Alonso just needs to finish in the points in Brazil.

Once again, Suzuka had a big twist up its sleeve :).

I think his engine was running really hot before he last pitted. Notice all the debris a team member pulled out of the car? I bet it caused his engine to run too hot during the pit stop and short after, kabloowie. Too bad.

Fishi was really emotional on the winners podium. He said he lost his best friend on Thursday. That's the second personal loss for him this season.

Great race for Renault and Alonso. What needed to happen, did. I'm happy, too. That means, Brazil will decide it. I like that idea.

Overall, a boring race but the tension between Alonso and Shoomi and Ferrari and Renault made a great race to watch. No where near entertaining as last year's race, but then nothing this season has been.

Unlikely to have been to overheating, Suzuka is quite a dirty track anyway, and of course going through Albers rather odd destruction at the last chicane.

Suzuka will be missed, but what ever pays the most money wins.

I actually woke up early to catch the tail end of this race and I'm happy I did.

This sets the scene for some serious tail-tapping, side-ramming, wing-breaking manouveres from MS in Brazil.

This is exactly what I'd expect from anyone who isn't a fan of Michael Schumacher or F1 in general. Only someone who doesn't really have a knowledge of the sport would say something as inaccurate and downright stupid as this. Michael Schumacher would never run into Alonso to try and take the championship. He'll get Massa to do it!

 You had me going all the way up to the last sentence :grumpy:

He used to do it himself, in the early years when he was still with Beneton.

Of course he'll get Massa to do it! Would be stupid to do it himself being 10pts behind lol.

Anyway, it was good to see Fisi dedicating the podium to his late-best friend... must've been so hard to concentrate having that kind of thing in the back of his head and for the second time this season...so a big well done to him for keeping his mind on the game and coming home in third.

Don't blame Micheal for saying "It's over", anything can happen...but he needs an absolute miracle for a driver who's only retired twice this season to finish outside of the points or DNF.

I hope Fernando has a Tennis appointment with JP Montoya :grumpy:

I'm soooo feckin' depressed right now... This was NOT what I wanted...

I don't think anyone from Ferrari (or anyone using Ferrari engines next year) will take out Alonso. It's not going to happen. In any case, MS has a minimal chance of winning the title now, whereas after China, it seemed as if he had the upper hand. How things change...

Finally, a good performance by Toyota. In case Prodrive is listening, that's what 300 million dollars can do for you.

Your transmission a'splode'd, Spyker.

I started nodding off during the commerical breaks during last 10-15 laps of the race, and hit the hay on the slow-down lap. (I can't stay awake for 20 hours like I used to!)

Well i think thats the drivers championship wrapped up. Because come on, is Alonso really not gonna finish in the points at Brazil? 2 races he hasn't, 2, Monza and Hungary, Hungary was an exceptionally different race and Monza he was pushing very hard in the engines 2nd race. Can anyone really see Alonso failing to score any points at Brazil? And how far back do you have to go to find Michaels last win/podium at Brazil? 2002. As far as i can see this championship has been won today by Alonso, its all about the constructors in Brazil for me.

Stayed up until 2:30 to watch the race.

Woah, Ferrari, engine failure, I could not believe it.

For a brief instant, my primitive instinct wanted Alonso to crash when he passed MS.

When my instinct vanished, I was a good sport:p

I agree with everything you said up until that last point. Brazil would have been very exciting had Schumy finished so that they would only be only a couple points apart. Instead they are 10... thus this championship is 99.9% done - not exactly setting up for a dramatic race in Brazil. 👎

At least all of this means we wont likely be hearing any more paranoid outbursts from Alonso any time soon. (Although his fist pumping as he passed Schumy who was broken down on the side of the track shows he is still as unsportsman like as ever, even when winning) It will be interesting to see how well received he is next year, and how well he can get along with the McLarren boys, especially with all of their engineering malfunctions that have plagued them this year.

The 2006 Championship ended with a BANG (coming from Schumy's car) ;)

Congratulations Alonso & Renault. It has been a tumultuous season for you both, and while maybe you didn’t want to win it this way, I'm sure you are both glad you wont have to deal with each other next season. :)

Hopefully 2007 will be an exciting open season with several drivers having a chance to challenge for the championship.

Talk about a suprise! Did you hear the announcers freak out when they found out it was Micheal's car? I sort of wanted Alonso to win, but it would have been a great feeling for MS to walk away with the championship on his last year.

Nice read... and shows Schumaker's maturity and professionalism. If the shoe was on the other foot, I think it is safe to say Alonso would have made some very different comments. :)
Give me a break. You're comparing a 37 year-old man with a family and 7 world titles to a 25 year-old with a pop-star girlfriend. Schumacher is probably the only man on the grid who would take such misfortune in stride. I'm sure he's running out of room in his trophy case at home, anyway :). Everyone else would simply be pissed.

He would've been crying like he has for the last 14 days...

Show some spine...

Woke up early for this race, and it was worth it and it was not worth it:

In my opinion, this race was great (wowow, just keep reading before flaming :tonque:). Unlike most of the times, Toyota had a good start and they were keeping quite well along in front 👍. But as expected, Alonso passed both of them, but I didn't feel sorry, just both of them in the points would do me very good 👍

So, as they race progresses, I've seen some nice battles untill a Spyker litterally blows up

Nice race from Button and Rakkonen as well 👍

But then, Michaels failure, ruined the race. It was so exiting but his engined said no.

Oh well, nothing you can do about it :)

McLaren have nothing to lose, DLR has hardly set the field alight has he?

Oh and don't think the title is wrapped up, yes Michael has a lot to do. But in the last 2 races we have expected the other driver (Of the top 2) to win the race. Alonso at China and Schumi Today, both in each race mentioned were well ahead of the rest for alot of the weekend and parts of the race.

Michael is a fighter, I don't like the bloke, but what a great servant to F1.

Expect the unexpected in 2 weeks time in Interlagos.

Difference is Alonso doesnt need to win, he just needs points, he could finish 8th and wrap it up..

But he could crash it, as Renault haven't been on the money. Could of course be a victim of a racing incident, I feel another twist yet though.
