Well, first match of the 2007/2008 Carling Cup got under way with a shock. Southampton had their 4-1 opening day defeat compounded by Peterborough's 2-1 victory at London Road, Grzegorz Rasiak scoring twice. Unfortunately for George Burley's side, one of those goals was for Posh, and own goal that opened the scoring on 21 minutes. He scored for the right team on 37 minutes, with his goals sandwiching Peterborough's second goal on 26 minutes

We have been really unlucky in the summer, mainly due to use losing some key players in the summer transfer market. But at least now the club can focus more on the Championship games.

Yeah, that can really hurt a team and I think Southampton are proving to be an example of how much. But good luck for the rest of the season...except when you come to Portman Road of course lol

-scores updated-

Can't remember myself...

P*ssed about the MK Dons match...we fight back from 2-0 down only to shoot ourselves in the foot...we were awful and it was probably the fair outcome but still... Anywho, draws for Round 2 will be held on Thursday night and I'll update when they're done

Well, we've done all right over the summer, we've only really lost 2 or 3 fringe players and our previous #1 keeper. We've brought in a more experienced goalie, a former striker in Pablo Counago (who is so much better than when he left 2 years ago), along with former midfielder Tommy Miller. Our key striker Lee looks a lot sharper and fitter which is good. So...overall they're still gelling some, but it's a good squad (although defence is a big issue still), whether we can push for the top 6 I don't know...top 10 for sure. We played really well at the weekend against Sheff Wed, but it seems this curse of lower league opposition in the Carling Cup came back yet again...we just can't seem to progress past them. Still, hopefully it isn't a sign of another chalk and cheese season of inconsistency

Yup, our board practically gave him away though...200K with add ons.

Shane's still with us, a bit fed up of being on the bench though. Unfortunately it seems he's going to end up like that this season but if he can hold a little patience and understand that Neil Alexander's arrival will really help him through the experience I think he'll be all right. IMO, Price was better right now, but Supps has the potential to be even better.

Shock Results -

Derby 2 - 2 Blackpool -Blackpool win 7-6 on penalties-
Luton 3 - 0 Sunderland
Southend 2 - 0 Watford
Wigan 0 - 1 Hull
Wolves 1 - 3 Morecambe

Also, Nottingham Forest's match with Leicester City has been postponed after Foxes defender Clive Clark collapsed in the dressing room with what's been described as a serious illness

Sounds bad. Hope hes ok.
I dont want to cast a shadow on this but it sounds alot like Antonio Puerta's incident.

Good result for Morecambe.

Good luck Cobblers tomorrow

Not sure whether to be happy or not about that, well not so much happy...more having a bit of a giggle...I hate West Ham yet I've always been a fan of Dyer since his days with us at Ipswich...shame for Dyer...but gotta laugh at Wet Spam

Other way round for me, I quite like West Ham, but have never been a fan of Dyer.

I worry that Dyer will end up forced into retirement tbh, shame if it does happen but I shouldn't think it will any time soon at least, if at all.

Northampton were unlucky. We hit the post in opening 10 mins. and we didnt lay down and die when they scored. Good game, but it was Prem. class that won the day.

My Son went to the Bristol City/ Man City game last night. Although they lost BriZ did the Championship proud. Could have gone to extra time if it wasn't for a disallowed goal for offside.

nige

Biggest shock of the 3rd round, Manchester United lose 2-0 to Coventry...or at least it's a shock until you look at United's team sheet... Fed up of big teams treating this like a reserve league and not giving Championship sides the respect they deserve.

According to the BBC, Man Utd still had 6 full internationals on the park, but that doesn't stop us laughing...

Sorry, Dave.

Yeah, that's true. Tbh I never expect much of us in the Carling cup though. I wouldn't mind us putting some effort into it, but the club puts so little value on it, being disheartened would be stupid. Either way, don't feel sorry for me, unless we fail to win any of the other three. Though I'd probably just avoid this part of the site if that happens .

I agree with Spike, even though it's the least of the 4 competitions the big teasm take part in, they undermine it more by not fielding strong sides.

I know a couple of Man Utd fans...they really dislike Man City too...but seeing as they knocked Norwich out I temporarily really like Man City =D

Yakubu pounced on a mix up late in the game at Upton Park to send Everton through to the Semi Finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 win over Wet Spam

Liverpool go down to a clinical fininsh from lampard. the first deflected shot he's ever had.
