2007 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Bahrain International Circuit

bahrainyl1.png

Circuit Length: 5.412 km
Lap Record: 1′30.252
Laps: 57
Race Length: 308.238 km

The Bahrain International Circuit has been the host of the Bahrain GP since 2004, and has been won by Alonso for the past two seasons. It has so far proved to be a very exciting racing circuit, producing interesting and exciting races since its inception.

Two races into the 2007 season, and so far both of the pre-season title favourites have won races. Will it continue to be a two-horse race? Or will Massa and Hamilton be able to step up and beat their proven team mates?

In Malaysia Ferrari were made to look mediocre after a bad start highlighted their not-so-robust race strategy, which had Kimi Räikkönen stuck in various forms of traffic for much of the race, instead of putting in quick lap times in the clean air as intended. Meanwhile Fernando Alonso was able to skip into the lead and run away with the race, gaining a second a lap on his team mate for much of the start of the race (and as much as Hamilton is praised, and rightly so, losing 1 second a lap to your team mate for 10 consecutive laps is simply not good enough).

It will be interesting to see where the balance of power lies at Bahrain, however I suspect Ferrari will be firing on all cylinders again after an off weekend in Malaysia where nothing seemed to go quite right.

I pressured you and I pressured you and you made the thread. See what you can do when you set your mind to it, Blake!

I'm really excited about this round as this would deffinatly be one of my favorite circuits.

My top 5 predictions.

1. Raikkonen
2. Alonso
3. Massa
4. Hamilton
5. Heidfeld

there weather here at Saudi is dusty , alot of dust ...I hope its not the same in bahrain

You need a hoover!

Hang on, didn't one of the cars in the 70s use a big fan on the back? There you go, two jobs in one.

All the front runners have brand spanking new eninges for this race so it should be intresting to see how everyone decides to run their engines.

Prediction:

1st: Alonso
2nd: Raikkonen
3rd: Hamilton
4th: Massa
5th: Rosberg
6th: Heidfeld
7th: Kubica
8th: Kovalinen

It just rained over here , not sure about bahrain but we are about 40-60 KMs away , and teh weather has been so strange this week one day hot and sunny next day dusty cloudy and raining .

BBC weather's prediction:

bahrainweatherhi8.jpg

Could be worse, although the predictions aren't necessarilary accurate. BBC reckoned I would get either blazing sunshine or a few clouds for my week in Spain. It rained at least once every single day. :grumpy: :dunce:

Anyway, hopefully this should be a fantastic race. While there hasn't been much sustained excitement in either of the opening races (nice driving Massa ;)👍), this is still one of the most exciting start to a season I can remember in a long time. I'm not sure what that says about the previous few F1 seasons, but at least I do now have a reason to get out of bed at a reasonable hour.

Bahrain... this is one of the finest "jewel in the desert" tracks there is. This jewel happens to be a diamond in the desert. This track really tests your driving ability and concentration. All it takes is one miscue to send you off the track and likely getting your car owned (pwn3d). But when racing the track, it has a little of everything for its distance. You have your areas of speedfreaking, then you have to take on the tricky corners. I would have to imagine the heat and humidity would be as worse or just about like Malaysia's Sepang.

The drivers are going to get slapped around a bit in Bahrain. We'll see who'll come out strong this weekend.

I'm going to be ballsy and put Rosberg high in the standings. He'll have a fresh car, after all.

1. Alonso
2. Raikkonen
3. Massa
4. Hamilton
5. Rosberg
6. Heidfeld
7. Kubica
8. Wurz

So has everyone else...

The point is it won't blow up like it did on the weekend. Never mind the other cars on the grid; Nico was up there on his own before the engine went.

In all fairness, unless Honda pull off an amazing turn around before Saturday I doubt another engine swap for Barrichello will do much harm. Same story pretty much for DC. :(

Does anybody know what Honda are doing to try and rectify the RA107's handling? I think I remember one of ITV's commentators mentioning a revised aero package, but then when (if?) they catch up with another car all that newfound grip will be lost and they'll be back to square one, no?

Really good track, i love it:tup: anyway, my prediction

1. Raikonen
2. Alonso
3. Massa
4. Hamilton
5. Heidfeld
6. Wurz
7. Trulli
8. R Schumacher

One of the ITV commentators mentioned Honda might just build another car.

About Hamilton losing time to Alonso, much of that was the fact that he had to drive defensively to make sure Massa stayed behind him. Once Lewis waso n is own he was as fast or faster than Alonso.

1. Alonso
2. Raikonnen
3. Hamilton
4. Massa
5. Heidfeld
6. Rosberg
7. Wurz
8. Fisichella

You mean if it follows another car in dirty air? Well all of the cars suffer from that.

An F1 cars front wing generates 60% less downforce when it is in dirty air than when it is in clean air. That 60% loss of downforce from the front wing is equivalent to 15% of the cars total downforce, never mind downforce that is lost over the rest of the car as the dirty air hits the winglets in an unpredictable manner.

Something serious needs to be done about that. Soon.

Blake, is it possible to do anything about that?

Is the dirty air not just a general part of cars racing at that kind of speed?

You tell me! I live here and it's been the worse Easter week in years :yuck:

About Hamilton losing time to Alonso, much of that was the fact that he had to drive defensively to make sure Massa stayed behind him. Once Lewis waso n is own he was as fast or faster than Alonso.

On the last stint he wasn't, despite having some clean air and space to run about in, he was slower then Alonso and then had to start thinking about staying ahead of Kimi.

I enjoy Bahrain, a lot, always have and it's given some great races in it's short F1 tenure. I expect Ferrari will be back on top now that they don't have any engine troubles to make stupid decisions on like they did in Malaysia. I'd also expect Massa to get his act back together after a race where he looked an amateur compared to Hamilton and then lost the will to race.

My top 5...

Alonso
Raikkonen
Hamilton
Massa
Rosberg

Yeah, dirty air is something that is part of the deal for such aerodynamic cars. However you can take measures to make sure the cars can generate more downforce in dirty air.

Lower the front wing, which would help to generate more ground effects. Let the teams use much more diffuser (which currently generates only 40% of the total downforce), again generating more ground effects downforce. Those are the two that pop into my head straight away.

Bah-Bah-Bah, Bah-Bah-Bah-rain...
Bah-Bah-Bah, Bah-Bah-Bah-rain...
Rockin' and a roll'n, Kimi and Fernando
Might get beat by Hamil-tan.

Can't wait for this one, it's on TV at a decent airtime on this go-around.

I hope BMW318ciC enjoys this one, have fun this weekend!
