Not to be outdone by the Fit, Yaris, etc Chevrolet has an updated Aveo is about to hit the streets.

LLN.com
General Motors today launched the 2007 Chevy Aveo sedan in the United States. It features an all-new exterior and interior, a longer and wider body than the previous model, improved suspension, three interior design packages, driver's seat fold-down armrest, adjustable lumbar, new interior fabrics, heated exterior mirrors on the LT model, standard auxiliary input jacks for MP3 players, an optional six-CD changer, steering wheel audio controls on the LT, an optional rear spoiler, and optional premium sound.

A few pretty pictures:

I must say that the redesign has worked out quite well for the car. The origional Aveo wasn't bad, but it was having a very hard time hiding the fact that it was a Daewoo underneath. The very Holden-like look of the car is quite nice, and the updated interior looks pretty good for a $10,000 car.

Can it knock the Fit and Yaris off of the "standard" spots? I doubt it, but many people will still buy them because they are "Chevrolets." It is certainly a good compeditor to the Rio and Accent, so I may have to take a look at one sometime in the near future.

Any word on whether or not the car in itself is still a total piece of crap?

Ha ha!

The origional wasn't that bad, it just wasn't as good as some of the other cars out there. I look at it this way, it was better than a Rio, still cheaper, and it was a Chevrolet.

...Better than the Fit? Not hardly...

But I belive it is Chevrolet's intent to play hardball with the Kias and Hyundais, and atleast the Toyota Yaris from the Japanese courts.

One step at a time. The Yaris is garbage. Target that. Steal some of Toyota's sales before you take on the monster that Hyundai is becoming. Targeting the Fit shouldn't happen for a good amount of time.
However, I think we are missing a very much so better alternative than all of them (including the Fit), which makes the entire segment of cars useless:

Wow the new Aveo looks great...except for the steering wheel. But that aside, what are the engine choices and performance (or lack thereof?) numbers? If it's got a sporty attitude I will put it in the "cool" catagory. Based on what I see and read I give it a solid 80%.

The 2006 Aveo was total ****. The 2007 (notchback) is really turning heads and gaining its market share already. It may not be as big as the yaris or fit, but it definitely competes with it. Unfortunetly the Aveo5 or the "hatchback" version remained relatively unchanged for the 07 model year.
Oh yea, I work at a Chevy dealer :)

It looks... good? The original Aveo was some crap budget ricer, and you would be better off buying used, but this looks pretty nice. We really ARE in a revolution--Hyundais are gaining respect. Fast. We have 3 muscle cars on the horizon. GM, after almost dying, is working hard to regain its position, with Cadillac's great V line--not as good as an RS4, but Id take a CTSV over an RS4 any day--and the new Camaro, etc.

...Well, it won't be a performance champ given the carry-over 103 BHP DOHC I4. The origional Aveo took about 10 seconds to hit 60 MPH, and will push on to a drag-limited 110 MPH, or thats what the old hatchback would do.

...I'd expect the new sedan to be faster...

I've ridden in one, but not driven one, that of course being an origional hatchback. The ride was quite nice, and although the interior bits and pieces were indeed cheap, there was plenty of space for the folks in front and in the back, not bad for a $10K car I'd say.

I'm waiting for a mini-test from C/D or MT just to see what happens, my guess not much, but I would assume they addressed the rubbery shifter and maybe decided to put some real tires on the car.

I'd be interested to hear how the Barina (essentially the same car) has gone over in Australia.

Well Barina over here just got awarded with a worse crash rating than its previous model.......... Hardly anyone realises its a Daewoo and wonder why Holden slipped up.

It still sells alright though as it is priced well.

At least it looks much better. But if the chassis is a carry-over, how come it failed its crash test? :ouch:

The problem with the current Aveo here is the price penalty it carries over the Koreans. Chevy's had to do a lot of cost-cutting and options removing to keep it competitive, and it's still not selling quickly. They barely moved 40 units over here (versus over a thousand each for the Picanto and the Getz) despite zero interest financing.

While I still have reservations about the quality of the engine and mechanicals, at least the interior looks nicer.

Wow, looks nice. 103 hp is right in tune with this croud, and i'm really digging the sedan body style. But i wonder, what are the exterior dementions on this car versus the fit and yaris, and more importantly, the weight?

Gah, this has been killing me since I first seen this revised version. The headlights look incredibly familiar to me, but I just can't pinpoint what other car has nearly identical headlights!

C-O-L-B-A-L-T sendan, but other than the bumpers and headlights I dont see much of a difference.

And to whoever said it first, with the VW Rabbit and it's standard features.... My god everyone else better be 10K or less.
Rabbit < Everything else.

The wheels are so tiny!
The car itself just looks... tacky. From the "I'm-trying-too-hard" front to the fiddly spoiler and taillights. No thanks.

No, I just figured it out. As I was about to go for a drive in my dad's Mada Tribute, I noticed how similar those headlights are to a Mazda Tribute...Awkward.

OK, yeah I them now, hell it doesn't even look like they changed anything from the Tribute, like they lifted them straight off of one and slapped them on the POS.

It doesn't look bad, but there's a big hint of last gen Vauxhall Astra about it mio. It might just be me but it loos like a last generation Astra that's been stung and swelled up at the front.

The interior looks good for a car in that price and class range.

Here's a headlight off a Mazda Tribute. Look how much the Aveo's headlight resembles it!

I like it!

And I despised the first one with a fiery passion.

That's because it's a pretty generic looking headlight.

That sounded like a deal(though I still doubted buying one) so I checked out the Chevy website. New Aveo is MSRP'd at $12,395, so after the destination charge, you are looking at $13,000 without any options. Even then, it doesn't even come with a CD player! :ouch:

If you know how to buy cars, there are some room for haggling with this car, but still, $14,000, $15,000(before haggling) for this car with options seems too high to me. :indiff:

As far as the designs go, I thought they did good, in & out.

I'd rather spend the extra $1200 and buy a Honda Fit...or a base model Focus. Or the new VeeDub Rabbit.

...I guess the bumped up the pricing on the Aveo then...

They used to be very proud of selling the cheapest car in the United States, but I really don't see what there is to be proud of in that reguard...

Well, 10 grand is a good price for almost any kind of cars. But with 13, you are looking at way better cars for just a grand or two more. How about that new Versa, or Fit like JCE suggested?

Maybe they added a larger glovebox? :dunce:

OK.... 3x just kidding

I got a Versa brochure from Nissan today, and a large glove box was one of the things they were bragging about, so your comment made me laugh. They called it, "boxing-glove sized glove box". :dopey:

Why is it that so many car manufacturers feel they have to subject their midsize cars to the shrink ray in order to come up with a sub-compact? What's wrong with the Mini (old or new)? What's wrong with the Smart? What's wrong with the i (Mitsubishi)? Where's the 205 or Clio from 10 years ago (not that the US ever got these)? Heck, where's the real Kei-cars?

This just looks ugly. I can't imagine anyone would consider these unless it was absolutely necessary to the buyer, or they were totally plastered. It's not the details, or the interior, or any one thing that makes it ugly; it's the car as a whole. The proportions are worse than any Fisher-Price reject I've ever seen. Smooshed-up Cobalt is right. :yuck:

No wonder Hyundai is making headway. They're no longer ugly, they're no longer unreliable, and they're no longer unappealing to the youth market. That's how you make economy cars.
