The first official images of the production Volvo C30 hatchback have surfaced online. The car was first shown in concept form at the Detroit auto show in January. The car is expected to offer a similar engine lineup as the S40 and V50 series. The car was originally not expected to be unveiled until the Paris Motor Show in September. Given the release of photos, we suspect official specs and pricing will be announced in the near future.

...That is a pretty neat little car, and I hope they can price it right so that it is more compeditive with the high-end compacts in the market today, such as the Audi A3 and VW GLI.

Awsome. The rear taillights need work but other than that it's a fantastic looking car.

The tailgate seems a little wonky, but it might work out better than I think. I'll take mine with FWD, the N/A I5, and a six-speed manual. As long as it's well under $30K, I'd be a happy man.

I say there, why need a Euro Focus? This thing looks way better. I wonder if they will sell an AWD version. That sounds mighty tasty. Can you say "stolen WRX sales"?

^Good point!

...Maybe this could be our "Euro Focus" just sans the Ford badge. That way, I wouldn't break the family code of not driving blue-ovals whenever possible, and I could look like a respectable person while driving as well.

Yes, a T5 AWD model would certainly be a WRX-killer. I'm all for it, but given most of that goes to the S40, I think the C30 will take the "Rabbit Route" and only offer one engine and the choise of a manual or automatic.

I can live with the boot hatch opening being small, and I can live with the odd taillights, but I can't live with a price over $25k. If Volvo/Ford wants to bring this to the states they need a price point below $27k and above the top of the line US Focus ST which costs $18-22k depending on options. I'm going to assume this is built on the same platform that the Mazda3 and Euro Focus is...which if the case should be one fast MoFo with the AWD I5 Turbo. Even if they throw in the 2.3l duratec it will be fantastic. Good move Volvo, now shut up and built the damn thing then ship it to the USA!

I really do like it, quite frankly more than the Audi A3. Atleast this looks "different" and it looks like it could be more fun to drive.

Seriously Volvo, show us some info!

Imagine a cross country version. That would be the fantastic.

I would, however, have a problem with the hatch door being too small, because I like hauling stuff in my hatch whenever possible.

Yes, it does look like the back end could be less porky, but it still looks really nice. Those wheels are gorgeous as well.

Good job Volvo.

this car wont be as much fun to drive as the focus.

Put if they do make a 300hp model there will also be a 300hp focus version

I like it but the rear messes up the whole car.
Poverty - Even if it had a 200 Hp engine it would be fun to drive as long as it is lightweight. I would like to see how this goes againts the old civic hatchbacks.

If you know your Volvo history, you can immediately recognize the 1800ES in the hatch design, so it doesn't seem too weird to me.

I would prefer Volvo over Saab in terms of Swedish automobiles. This Volvo C30 deal... looks pretty cute, actually. It's a baby Volvo. Look at it. It's all ready to go play on the playground. Sit on the swings (one of my methods of restoring my youth), play on the monkey bars, and just come home all full of energy. Aww... how cute!

All joking aside, this car should probably come in around the $25K to 30K range as I look at it. This is granted that the car doesn't come with some expensive features like a high-powered turbo engine or whatever. The new Volkswagen Passat has been getting good vibes for its safety. I wonder how this Swedish compact will do in crash ratings. Safety should be no problem with Volvos because they're world renowned for it.

Out of 100% approval of this Volvo C30, I'd be a fool to give it a low score. I don't think it's ugly at all. I do, however, have my doubts about the taller tallights. Most compacts that have the taller taillights are usually for vehicles which are too small for cars that are higher off the ground. Take the Ford Focus hatchback for example. It has those taller taillights so where others in taller vehicles can better see. So here's my approval score for the Volvo C30: 88% approval. Nice automobile. I think she'll sell well, no?

hmm.. what if they'd do a radical move and make it RWD, thus giving a low blow towards BMW 1-series? and hot hatch version is almost certain.. AWT T5 with 250bhp? yes please..

This car is MILES ahead of the Saabaru (yes, I said Saabaru) 9-2X here in the US. Looks, performance, possibly in capability as well. Granted the Saabaru does have the optional AWD to hang over the C30, but it doesn't matter. When you are driving a distinctive car that expresses your personality far more than the Sweedish Sushi (Bork Bork Bork!!!).

I like this car a lot, but I just have the sneaking suspicion that the car is going to price itself out of competition. I dunno, they could surprise us, but they did a damn-good job making the car look nice. Makes you wonder if they got the bloke who did the Aston do this...?

Mmmm.. no. there's nothing that hints towards AM or Jag. maybe the turning signal in the mirror.. but otherwise, it's pure Volvo.👍

edit: is it just me or is that an intercooler in the first pic? :odd:

...There appears to be an intercooler down below, yes indeed...

(The Aston thing wasn't a serious one, but Ford's luxury arms seem to be on a roll with making good looking cars. First the Aston twins, then the new Jag, the updated S80, and now the C30.)

Exactly like the concept, right down to the wheels. Except for the exhaust and copper trim (which was cool for 1978, but not today). It's based on the current Euro Focus, right? Should be a great car to drive, then. Volvo over that past 10 years has gotten better and better. Not that they were any slouch before, but this kind of execution really starts to put them in contention with BMW and Audi, not just Saab and Opel.

Does Volvo really do front-mount intercoolers? That looks more like the radiator to me.

This is the car my mom always wanted, a small volvo for her to puttle around in, but shes caught that BMW bug now.

...The Aygo is a pretty good looking car for a Toyota, which I find strange.

It would be funny to see the engineers at Volvo shoehorn the Yahmaha V8 and AWD underneath this car and take it racing, but I doubt it would happen.
