Norwich crash out...and Ipswich through to Round 2 for the first time since 2004...what happens now? Us Ipswich fans aren't quite used to this lol.

Ah I wouldn't don't knock it, MK Dons are a decent team. They actually put Town out on penalties after a 3-3 draw last season in the same round. That said, having had a look over CanariesMad.co.uk (sister site to BluesWeb) it sounds like they just didn't do the job and suffered from a lack of edge up front. 13 chances, 6 on target and no goals for the budgies.

All extra time games in Round 1 are finished bar Sheffield Wednesday v Rotherham (2-2) and Rochdale v Oldham (0-0).

Me neither, funny thing is it was one of those football oddities too where Rotherham equalised almost immediately after going a man down.

Lol, should be a good game. Good luck on creating an upset. I'm pretty happy with our draw, a home tie and an East Anglian derby for round two which should give extra incentive to both teams, will also be interesting to see what Kevin Lisbie can do against his former club (he left Colchester to join Town in the summer).

You should win that. Lisbie cost how much? 300k? And Peterborough (:yuck::dunce:) wanted 3million + for Mclean an unproven player. I'd have Lisbie in our team anyday.

Closer to 600K I believe. But yeah, it's the same with Nicky Maynard, where Crewe wanted 2.25mill for him. Most we put up was 1.5mill and even that pushed the envelope. Lisbie was a gamble at first, but he looks like a steal. Two goals in his first two pre-season games and a 2nd minute goal in his league debut on Saturday.

Maynard a reasonably solid League 1 proven player 2.25M. McLean, one good season in the bottom tier of English league football 3m + 2m Add-ons... I know who I'd have. But I do agree that the prices are just shocking. We let Bradley Johnson go last year for 250k and a small addon for when/if Leeds go up.

Kieran Westwood one of the best keepers in the league along side our keeper Bunn and the Leeds keeper last season went for 400k and a few add-ons in the future, and then Maynard and McLean go for many millions. We stuck a £1million price tag on Bunn which is what Westwood should have went for.
Some of these deals are shocking. Like last year Beckford. Everyone was saying how we was off to a Premiership club for 4Million. This guy is barely 2 and half years out of non-league and he didnt come through any youth system. Yes he's a good player as we saw on Tuesday but 4 million is a shocking valuation.

Bleh, Leicester City at home. What a boring, boring draw. Guarantee we don't get more than 10,000 attendence for that one at Craven Cottage. And we'll probably lose. Why couldn't we get an exciting match, like Carlisle away, or something with some atmosphere??? :grumpy:

Joe

Our tie is Bolton Ressies vs Northampton. I you could give Bolton fans 100,000 free tickets and I doubt you'll get 10,000 people. We'll take a decent number down there. I may be in that number. 2000 or 3000.

At the Reebok? Sounds like it could be an exciting game. I reckon Northampton Town could provide us with the upset of the round. 👍 Please don't disappoint me, I don't like Bolton much. :sly: Seriously though, what will the odds be on a 1-1, and Northampton either winning in extra time or on penalties? Might have a pop at that.

Joe

I was looking at a few Bolton fan forums and they just said 'which of our first team should we play'. Sends out a strong message for our players to do them over. I'd settle for a 1-1 or even a 0-0 and see where it goes. Id just like to send out a few messages to the doubters, and so called 'pundits' or 'experts' who have never seen a league 1 game in there life, that every season say we will be down the bottom.

Even last year being top 10, one newspaper said, 'Northampton will improve under Gray this year. Prediction :19th.'

On topic again, you should beat Leicester. You have strengthened where as they have weakened. They could come close but no shock.

Yeh, the fielding of poor sides in the Carling Cup does seem to take the importance of the competition much below that of the FA Cup, but then again, it does also help lower division clubs to claim that giant-kill or to scare the bigger club. Last year, Coventry beating Man Utd springs to mind. However, we shouldn't let that take anything away from the smaller club, if Northampton manage to get a draw or better still, a win at Bolton, the achievment is still a fantastic one, no matter what side they put out. I for one will definately be cheering you on, I really do hope you win, and show up Bolton.

Ah, I tend not to listen to the predictions nowadays, they run too much by the cliches and a lot of the pundits, if not all, don't even attend lower division games and matches between less fancied or less fashionable clubs, and as such the whole prediction is biased. I'm sure you'll be up the top half of the table, and possibly through to the 3rd Round in this cup! 👍

I imagine we'll probably put out a weakened side as well, I can see us winning as we have enough strength in depth, but I also can see us throwing an easy victory away due to some lapses in concentration and the lack of importance of the competition to our players. However, if we get the victory and get to the next round, it could be the start of a good cup run, you never know. :)

I was reading the Evening Star yesterday and one of the sports experts there (Phil Ham) suggested it was even time for the Carling Cup to be dropped all together.

 Who is he to dictate what cups should be dropped? If they teams agreed they wouldn't have entered, they can pull out. Its a money spinner of some of the lower league clubs if they get 2nd, 3rd or even 4th rounds.

Lol, exactly, ok so perhaps it doesn't attract the same sort of massive interest as the FA Cup, or the Champions League but it doesn't mean it should be dropped. It, as you say, creates money for the lower clubs and adds a further chance for an underdog to win some silverware.

The pundits that spout such rubbish like this really don't understand the fascination and support put into lower division clubs. The amount of effort some teams put in, and the satisfaction that is gained when they pull of an upset or a giant-killing is completely lost to these blinkered fools. I see the Carling Cup as a real opportunity for some teams to get a nice payout, and for underdogs, whether they be from a lower division or the bottom end of the Premiership (Wigan, Sunderland, Fulham for example), to have a chance at winning some proper domestic silverware. If idiots like this Phil Ham are suggesting things like this, it won't be long before we are left with just the Premiership and the Champions League for the "much-loved Big Four"! All of which I hate by the way. ;) :yuck:

Keep the Carling Cup in for definate, it really does provide us with some entertaining matches, and some exciting upsets! 👍

Joe

Yeah I mean maybe if the teams want to pull out and it could become the actual league cup. Championship - League 2. But the fact is, most teams do want it as it is a chance to see young players and they dont mind winning it. To my mind no manager has every put out a team they dont think will win no matter if its a weak to or not.

Well, my oh my. 0-2

Half Time if we keep this up, well I cant think. Nolan and Davies I expect to see 2nd half so it might not last but still :D:D

Best of luck in the final 5...gonna be a helluva shock.

Looks like a couple of shocks tonight then... Bolton out to Northampton, West Brom trailing 3-1 to Hartlepool in extra time... Palace thrashed 4-0 by Leeds.. Hull 2-1 down in extra time too now, to Swansea

lol, yeah it would suck to not get there I bet. But hey now you've got another chance to do so if you get a big draw in Round 3 where the big guns from the Premiership come in, plus if I work it out right you've got the label as the biggest giant killers so far.
