The Aston Martin DB9

Have at it guys!

------

I ended up going for the CTS after thinking about it for a little bit. What it comes down to for me, is that for the first time in a long, long time, the Cadillac has finally brought some honor back to the American car game. I personally find the design very appealing, particularly when compared to the other cars in its class. Its not for everyone, but thats okay too. As far as engines and transmissions go, the CTS has paved the way for an overwhelming number of new GM products, and with a good amount of money and time spent on chassis design (and tune!), dynamically they have captured and created something that can finally rival the Germans.

While the DB9 is an exercise in design and certainly a model that re-introduced the brand as a force to be reckoned with, at least in my mind, the CTS comes off as a car with more time and money riding behind it... Consequently, matched with its importance, in my opinion, it is the better car.

I'm voting for the DB9, I know that I don't like this car but I promised myself that I wasn't going to vote for a Cadillac

I went with the DB9. Astons have always been in their own league of offering beauty, luxury and everything else into one package, even if it does have slightly sub-par performance for a car of the price.

The CTS? It's a good attempt by an American manufacturer to make a high quality car, but it still falls a little short of the competition.

Voted for the CTS. I don't find anything special about the DB9, sort of meh kinda car if you know what I mean. At least the CTS has brought some life back to the American sedans..... 👍

The CTS. If I get the V version I may well have the fastest sedan around a track in the world right now. Once again, I do love V8 sedans.

The DB9 is an exercise in design all right... more of the same design as the last two or three Astons. While it's a beautiful design, I think they should start working on a new horse. I'll concede that it's a great car, but I'd rather have seen the tighter, lighter Vantage in here... in fact... why isn't it? It's the newer car...

The CTS, while it might not be there, not yet, is one of the few American cars really trying to fight it out in this segment, and the CTS-V's European-matching performance is worth a vote.

DB9. CTS looks like American version of GT-R mentality, a transformer, whereas DB9 still looks more alive. it has.. dare I say it.. soul.

If it was the V8 Vantage I'd have had a tougher choice, one of my favourite sports coupes in the world right now is the V8 Vantage.

Fantastic. Two cars I said I wouldn't vote for :sly:

Erm. Aston. By default. Choice of saloon I have no interest in whatsoever next to a beautiful car that's been spoiled by the footballers who own them, and the footballer's car has to win it.

I...uh...well...

can't really say, here. I mean, the DB9 is also obviously a fast car, but...at it's price point? It's for people who don't care enough about their money.

CTS. At least I won't be like all the kids who say "OOH! It's a supercar!"

Preeeecisely.

I actually prefer the previous CTS (in terms of looks, atleast) to the new one. Well even if it was the old one I'd still go for the DB9, so that's irrelevant really. The footballer owners don't bother me... when I don't think about them, anyway.

A supremely impressive sports sedan from a manufacturer that has pumped out chunks of mediocrity for decades, or yet another Aston with yet another V12 and yet another swoopy skin with the same fish face and features every other Aston has had for...how long?

CTS, easy.

I cannot vote for a car where the only curves are the wheels, when the Aston sits there with it's swooping, gorgeous lines. :D

I went with the CTS. The DB9 looks great and all, but the CTS offers more value for the money. And Cadillac have improved the CTS, especially the interior, so that it can compete with the big boys.

Is continuing a winning formula a bad thing?

The 911 has been the same car forever. That doesn't make it a bad car.

The DB9 is a great car, but you can bet I'd rather give the nod to the guys at Cadillac because they've made more significant progress. The CTS is 10000 times better than what I would have expected from GM just 5 years ago.

Is it progress that defines a great car? I don't think history is something that should be taken into account to define which car is the best now. If this was the car to save GM, then that is understandable, but GM would need a great car to do that anyway, history aside.

If Chrysler surprised everybody and pulled out a mediocre car that would sell marginally well for change out of their hat, it wouldn't be great, would it?

I voted DB9 because Holden voted for CTS :)

JK, but I did vote DB9 because I put incredibly good looks, luxury, and super speed all together. And it has awesome presence, well for me at least.

If Chrysler built something as good as the CTS, of course I would vote for it; I'm not sure how your mediocre car example is relevant. The new CTS is a great car in its own right, and I said so before I ever mentioned anything about the past.

It's not like I voted for it because it happens to be a bit roomier or faster to 60 than the old CTS, either. I voted for it because I like the car, and because it's also sporty, relatively inexpensive, practical, and a strong contender in its corner of the market. Moreover, its competitor's most-valued traits are its looks, speed, and noise. The fact that the Caddy represents GM's commitment to put more effort into its cars is just a bonus and a personal rationale for voting.

I was just referencing your post that seemed to say the CTS was good because it represented progress at GM, which means little to how good the car itself actually is. The Chrysler bit was to demonstrate that progress can very easily still mean a car that isn't good in any way.

I can certainly agree that these points do make the car good. I wouldn't agree that the CTS is the better car, but I can certainly understand how these things make it good compared to an improvement.

Simple, DB9.

The CTS does nothing for me. It is not a vehicle I would buy if I had the money, whereas the DB9 is.

But the 911 ain't anywhere in the voting now... is it?

But the CTS not only made great progress, but is a good car in it's own right. I would rather spend my money on the CTS. Then I could also probably spring for a V8 Vantage.

Either way:

That about seals it.
