Japan is up, its France's turn... We'll likely start the nomination process for two other countries later tonight (who's up for North America and Germany?). Same rules as always; Vote for the best two, banter a bit, the top two cars move to the next round.

Vote away my friends!

====

I know I'll be voting for the Renaultsport twins. They are the two cars that I want to move to Europe for...

EDIT:

I just realized that this seems like a beauty pageant for the Citroen crowd. Awesome!

A few good ones there... But I voted C5 and the Clio. I must have missed the Clio vote by mistake. :odd:

Why is the 207 there? :shudder:

I have no idea for any of these cars so I went based on which looked the best. to me...

Tricky. I'm tempted to go for the C6, but the C5 is just as good and is cheaper. And the other one has to be a Renaultsport Renault, god knows which one.

...but then the C4 Picasso is great too. The Coupe just won't get anywhere next to that Megane R26, though.

EDIT

Went for a bit of tactical voting instead. The Clio is going to be in the top 2 anyway, so I decided to give the Picasso a chance along with the C5.

La meilleure voiture française est la Citroën C5!

Votez pour elle!

I voted the Megane R26 and the C4 Coupé, which makes me the first voter for the C4 Coupé.:odd: It's a good car, I imiagine from GT5:P and seeing them in the road.

Still, the competition is very close between the C5 and the Megane R26. Should I mention that the R26.R is the fastest sport compact on the Nurburgring?

No. Please don't. I want the C5 to at least get 2nd place.

I'm really surprised the Clio is beating the Megane, this generation of Clio isn't the king of the hot hatch hill it once was. The Megane is Renault's best hot hatch at the moment.

I can't help but to vote for both of the Renault. I'm a big Renault fan as well. :D

That may be, but it's still bloody brilliant.

Me too, maybe it's because the Megane is a lot uglier.

The Citroen C5

I think this picture is very misleading, it's obviously a concept version that's much lower, wider and sleeker looking then the actual production model:

Citroen C6 and Renaultsport R26 for me. I should have been in on the nominations. I would have nominated my own car.

That's not what magazines like Evo or Autocar would have you believe.

I dunno, the Cup version seems to be going down pretty well. True enough the Megane comes out on top though in virtually everything, but then these polls aren't the most scientific thing ever as they're generally being topped by things most of us will never drive. More like "dream car" than "best car". So as someone mentioned people are probably choosing the Clio on looks more than ability.

That said, I chose it because I like my hot hatches revvy, light and naturally aspirated rather than big, heavy, turbocharged and flabby.

Well, the Clio is only 100kgs lighter and actually not that much smaller. It's not quite the lightweight it once was.

100kg is quite a lot really. Fifth gear proved that a while back by putting a 100kg bloke in the Mazda 2 and testing it's performance compared to not having the bloke there. It was a second slower to 60, a second slower in a slalom, and it took 16m longer to brake from 70mph: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d4pne75Mpw

And by the standards of modern hot hatches the Clio is positively flyweight.

...apart from the Mini Cooper S and the Corsa VXR which weigh 1130 and 1166kg, which is 110 and 74kgs less then the Clio. Evo even called it 'portly'.

I wasn't really looking at them to be honest, I was thinking more of the Megane et al. Either way, all modern hatches are a bit fat, but in this thread only the French ones are relevant, and compared to the Megane the Clio is lighter and a bit "old-school". It also looks better, which is why people have probably voted for it.

I wasn't quite expecting someone to be that pedantic about everything I said and in those scenarios I generally don't line up streams of facts, figures and magazines in front of me...
