2008 Brazilian V8 Stock Car / Pickup Racing series season open

I know most of you guys don't care, but i'm posting some information about the new stuff this year.

The main event is now called "Nextel Cup". Differently from last year were 50 cars were trying to get the 38 qualifying spots, in 2008, only the best 34 drivers continue on the "Nextel Cup". This means 34 cars maximum at each race.

Also, Volkswagen left the series, so Chevrolet (Astra Sedan), Mitsubishi (Lancer Evolution IX) and Peugeot (307 Sedan) are the ones racing.

Technical differences? Yes. Pirelli tyres were replaced by Goodyear. A new differential and gearbox (same used by Grand Am series) is also avaiable. Crash absorvers were installed on the sides and front, to improve safety. Also, now the pit stop to refuelling is back.

The "Stock Car Light" event is now called "Vicar Cup". This series has 40 spots avaible, 39 already used. The champion of this series and his team, plus the 2nd best team, win acess for next year "Nextel Cup". The two worst teams of "Nextel Cup" go back to "Vicar Cup". Plus now they use the same fiberglass bodyshapes of Chevrolet (Astra Sedan), Mitsubishi (Lancer Evolution IX) and Peugeot (307 Sedan). Till last year, the used Chevrolet (Astra Hatchback) only.

And the newest addition to the serious, is the fusion with Pickup Racing! Now called "Webmotors Cup - Pickup Racing", with a new chassis and two manufacturers, Chevrolet (Brazilian S10) and Mitsubishi (L200 Outdoor). 20 drivers already confirmed to the season opener this weekend. A curious fact is that Dudu Massa, Felipe Massa's brother, will race on this series.

First off, Johnny, don't be so hard on us in saying that nobody cares about Brazilian Stock Car. I respect you as a friend on GTPlanet and is very supportive of Brazilian Stock Car. Not many people care about college sports, but I still soldier on in chatting about college sports. And then too, Brazil has so much motorsports history. So anything to gloat about or showcase Brazilian motorsport is perfectly fine.

Volkswagen left the series? That's a great shame. I'm sure the remaining three makes will still tread rubber all over the Brazilian Stock Car series with intense racing. Stock Car Light is now the Vicar Cup? Is Vicar a company or named after someone? Thanks for sharing info on this series and how it's coming along.
 
Don't get me wrong JohnBM01. When i wrote that, i was talking about the topic having almost no replies. For example, the topic has 46 page views, but only you replied.

People tend to be so narrow-minded, even not intentionally. I mean, would be so hard to post an opinion? It took some time to upload all those pictures.

I no longer work on Stock Cars, but i think the series is very cool. People talk a lot about DTM and V8 Supercars, when the Brazilian Stock Cars is just like them. I guess it's because it doesn't have that much visibility internationally, although AutoSports magazine once said it was one of the Top 5 touring car series in the world.


Anyway, back to the topic. Yes, Volkswagen left the series. It's unknown why, since they sponsored lots of promotional events on race weekends. Anyway there's a rumour that Fiat might join next year, with the Línea.

Vicar is the name of the company that organize the whole event. So Nextel sponsor the main series, Webmotors the newly PickupRacing and Vicar itself, the acess series.
 
Can you get youtubes or any other way of showing the race in the usa?

I am sure i crap Nascar in the US will not hold a candle to real road racing such as this.

Im already excited about this.

You assume people are narrow minded because they don't respond to your thread? That's a rather arrogant assumption, I think... 👎

It's hardly one of the more internationally known national series. I don't see a thread on the BTCC, FFSA GT, BelCar, TC2000, FIA GT3, GT4, Britcar, Brasil GT3, Spanish GT, or a lot of other popular national series...

Can't fault people for not knowing about this series and having nothing in particular to say...
 
Again, i was misunderstood. I'm not pointing people because they are not posting replies.

I'm just saying on a Sub-Forum, called Drifting and other Motorsports, having a topic with that much page views and a single reply, a sad thing. And this is not just because it's my topic.

As for the narrow-minded, again, i'm not trying to arrogant or anything. I'm just saying that most people don't care for any new motorsports series.

This happens a lot here in Brazil. People follow F1, IRL, F-Truck and StockCar. Anything else, even if it's cool, well organized or interesting, has almost zero audience. You even mentioned some series like the TC2000, Brazilian GT3 Cup (were i work) and so on. I really enjoy knowing more about other series. When i still worked on StockCar, the race we had on Buenos Aires, was great. Got the chance to meet a lot of people that work on the TC2000.

Anyway, i'm sorry if i sounded arrogant. That was never my intention.

Amazoom is a Hot Wheels casting designed by Mark Jones that debuted in the 2008 New Models.

The origins of this casting arose when the Hot Wheels Marketing group decided to recognize Brazil for the growth of Hot Wheels in the country in 2007. A few design options were put on the table and Marketing and Design decided to create a non-licensed version of the stock cars that are popular on the Brazilian racing circuit. Mark Jones took that concept and created Amazoom! The name of the car came from the Amazon River, which runs through the Brazil. Its first deco is based on the Brazilian flag. "
