last year was a ferrari 1-2 finish with Massa on pole. will this result happen again? we'll just have to wait and see

Well 1 thing is certain - Hamilton after his ridiculous 10 spot penalty wont be winning

it's a retarded penalty. way too harsh

the punishment dosen't match the crime IMO

Your kidding right?
He ran into the back of a car that was stopped at a red light, do you think if some one hits you from behind at a red light because he wasn't paying attention to what was going on he shouldn't get a ticket & pay for the damage?

As far as F1 penalties go this one doesn't really seem out of line.

You never know. He might be able to pull one out of his bag of tricks. We have seen more impressive feats done in F1, such as Kimi's 22nd to 3rd at the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix. It is not out of the realm of possibilities for Hamilton to qualify on pole, moved to 11th, and then climb up the ranks to win the race.

Though, I do not really see that happening. I can see him finishing in the fourth to sixth place range as the most likely outcome, with a third place podium finish being an outside possibility.

I think there have been similar penalties handed out for lesser incidents. I would consider this more significant than being an impediment during qualifying, which has been a fairly consistent five spot grid penalty.

On that note, I would like to see a video of the incident again. I did not pay enough attention to it during the race.

Bit early much?

I thought the same thing. The thread will probably not have too much action until nearer to the race.

Neither. The thing about Hamilton - and the reason why I think he's so very over-hyped - is that he's never really had to do the impossible like some of the other front-runners like Raikkonen have. He's always been in a good car, and he's always been competitive; while that might sound like a good thing, he's never really had the experience of racing with the other drivers as much as he has the Usual Suspects. Sure, he had to power through everyone at Brazil last year, but he was underwhelming on race day. Sure, he had problems, but he really struggled as if it wasn't Lewis Hamilton driving, but his Talentless Clone.

Quite.

the Canadian GP thread was a bit late (started 4days ago) so might as well get it out of the way
It was late for a reason, and we haven't finish discussing about the Canadian GP yet, so you can still discuss in that thread first and wait till the time is right to start another discussion here. ;)👍

Exactly right on both counts 👍

I'd love to see Lewis in a **** box, so to speak. Lets see how good he really is.

We saw it from Fernando (even though I dont like him) in the Minardi. Lewis has had the (F1) world placed at his feet

How did we see how good Fernando is at Minardi? His best finish was 10th in a race with only 10 finishers… :odd:

Meanwhile I haven’t seen you in ages Bollocks, where have you been hiding?

Over at the GTBN is where I usually hang out :) Its a bit quieter there ;)

Got a PM from a guy I was racing against yesterday and thought I may as well come over and see how the Planet was going :)

Hmmm, now that I think on it, I realise this race can only be a good thing because we'll Nevers be going back to Magny-Cours after it.

And it's a big, big shame. Magny-Cours is an excellent track, but the location is problematic. I love the layout.

Never was a fan of the surface, my ownself. Too smooth, and the passing opportunites don't really exist.

I think this thread is a bit early, given that the race is not until 22nd June.

Come back next week ;)

I'll agree with Metar on the track layout, I think it's awesome and very technical. Lots of balls-out curb hopping and a decent mix of high/low speed corners; turn 3 being my favorite. Pure F1, I'll miss this track. Renault has aero and suspension improvements coming here, I wish them well...

Well done sir!

In a unrelated news:
Toyota team hopes to do well in France for Andersson
16 June 2008

Last week former Toyota F1 team boss Ove Andersson got killed in a horrible rally accident. For the Toyota Formula 1 team the upcoming Grand Prix weekend will be one they like to dedicate to Andersson, the team's leader when they entered Formula 1.

"In Magny-Course want to achieve a strong result this weekend as a tribute to Ove because without him I'm not sure whether Toyota would be competing in Formula 1 now," said Toyota's race driver Jarno Trulli. "He helped build up the factory from scratch back in the rally times to what it is now; a real Formula 1 facility with the potential to produce World Championship-winning cars. He loved motorsport and it was his passion to see Toyota succeed so I hope we can achieve something fitting this weekend."

Pascal Vasselon, Toyota's senior general manager chassis said: "Obviously this is a sad time for the team and we are all shocked about what happened to Ove. This gives us added motivation to succeed this weekend."

I just heard this during the Le Mans race, and was kinda sad to hear about it. (but I totally forgot to mentioned it in the Le Mans thread. :banghead:) Don't know if you guys remembered him, but he was the guy who helped Toyota with their Le Mans effort in 99' and help them again during their first year in F1.

R.I.P. Ove Andersson. :(

It seems silly that Rosberg got the same penalty as Hamilton, because he really needs a decent qualifying position.

It doesn't seem silly - he did the same thing. Sure, he didn't ruin Hamilton's race - Hamilton saw to that personally - but he crashed just the same.

While I don't disagree with the penalty, watching the replay again makes me think he was aiming to park it behind Kubica (which makes sense as he's be the second car in a two-car lineup going out onto the track as opposed to the third car in a three-car lineup), and Hamilton's collision with Raikkonen put him off or something.

But you could argue Hamilton only tried to avoid Kimi. End of story is: Both crashed, equal circumstance, equal punishment.

You could also debate on whether or not Hamilton assumed (not knowing the light was red) for a split second that Kimi (who saw and reacted to the red light) wasn't going to stop.

...Pure F1, I'll miss this track...

And how many times have you sat through a processional French GP to determine that it is 'awesome'. The track doesn't do much for me, it may have held the odd spectacular race but it's rather bland. The only exciting event I can remember from last years French GP was Alonso's epic struggle to pass Heidfeld, which lasted quite a while. I'd be happier watching Suzuka, a proper drivers circuit instead of a test bench. I'll be glad when we leave Magny Cours behind.
