Lotus official press release today, which was good news on almsot all fronts.

Here are some key changes:

New Elise SC, which has fatotry supercharger installed, good for around 220hp. SC package also includes new wheels and a lame little spoiler which is good for nothing. This is something owners have been calling for for a long time. It isn't intercooled like the Exiges are, but you get far more rear visibility.

New performance pack for Exige S, which boosts hp up to 240. Exige S's across the board have the old Cup roof scoop, the mohawk-style lid that extends the opening right to the windscreen (again, very demanded). Performance pack also includes other goodies like launch control and on-the-fly 30-mode traction control (apparently ridiculously cool). Also bigger brakes are included.

Airbags are standard across the range (has been in North America since 05 anyway), all cars also benefit from a nifty new guage cluster with some sort of fancy new LCD display unit. Aircon is optional, before it was deleted at a cost. New paint is something that they only mention, but provide no photos to support the new range. There are several new colours, and the removal of some old favorites. They also seem to have bought up the old chameleon paint from TVR, so expect to see some of those flippy metalics from Lotus soon too (the only photos I've seen are on little models taken at the factory a couple of months ago, so who knows what will actually happen).

All in all it is pretty good news, they added some interesting things across the line. Also they made sure to not piss off current owners with false promises, and the 05s are starting to roll into after-warranty, so those base cars are going to stop depreciating because of aftermarket options. They seem to finally be doing things right (oh yeah, they also gave the boot to the ass who lead Lotus Cars USA). Now we have to wait another couple of months to see what will happen with the GT3, the Eagle and hopefully Esprit-replacement.

Oh yeah, here are some shots of the new Elise SC, with its new wheels and wing (both of which I dislike). I'm not sure what the colour is, but it is not the much-loved Chrome Orange.

Enjoy!

I didn't know that there was a huge demand for Supercharged Elises, but it sounds good to me. My guess is that its over issues with the engine not having enough torque down low? Still love the car, and extra power is always a welcome addition. Except that wing. Keep the wheels, ditch the wing.

Mmmhmmmmm... still the only car that comes with perfect tires, stock. (yeah, that's personal opinion... and IMHO, no tire comes close, so sue me... )

ugghh!:yuck: That spoiler is wrong! Any shots of the Exige yet?

Yes, nothing has changed, other than the Cup car's mohawk roof scooop, so I didn't post those. We've seen that roof on the Exige Cup for at least a year. Here they are anyways.

I'd also like to point out the AO57 registry. Every single Lotus factory car, including press cars and test cars, has either AO56 or AO57 plates. Why they would register that rumored "Esprit replacement" somewhere else in England is just another firm piece of evidence that the car isn't Lotus.

The 'AU' part means it's registered in the Norwich part of East Anglia. '56' or '57' means it was registered in 2006 or 2007. My brother's Exige, which he bought new from the factory, has a registration that begins 'AU05' the Elise he had before that was a 'AU52' or 'AU53' i think.

There's quite a demand for more power from the folks who take their cars to track/auto-X events. So after market solutions started popping up and it garnered a lot of interest.

Only seemed natural that Lotus would jump in and add power to their little cars.

The car is already fast as it is with 190HP. The extra tq down low will really help sling it out of corners.

Yes, but the plates on the car that people believe to be the Lotus Esprit replacement have some totally different lettering, like MY or something.

Refering to the AD07s or the AO48s?

Both pretty good, actually.

The way I drive, I'd run the A048s bald in a week. Track tires...

I love my AD07s... sure, the short tread life is pretty harsh for a street tire, but the way I drive, I eat chunks out of the tread of cheaper tires.

AD07s have terrific cornering grip, get stickier the hotter they get (after one hot lap, they stay consistent for the rest of the session) and have sidewalls built like bullet proof vests. I've seen potholes that cracked wheels leave nary a mark on the AD07's sidewalls.

Am on my second straight set. Expensive toys, but damn worth it.
