Silverstone is still on
Aww so i cant tempt you? :p

BTW slightly ot but i remember you saying you live near cadwell park? Are you maybe interested in going to this ?

One of the guys thats normally going to this meantioned it to alex and hes keen on going, donno if im going though depends on who all wants to go.

My dad said he got a good start, but then got held up further along the lap when, i think Bob Bullen in the yellow Anglia, spun and caused most of the following field to practically come to a stop.

Dan Cox is very quick, he makes us all look slow :grumpy:

That DKW is great isn't it. It usually runs around at the back of the field on its own unfortunately, but it's good to have something a bit different racing. It sounds fantastic too!

My arms and forehead have only just stopped peeling from the last time we were at Silverstone back in the beginning of May!

Going back a bit to the loose bolts. Will you now go around making sure everything is on tightly?

Update

Engine is back with the builder. Something has sheared on the oil pump and there's a crack between one of the cylinders and the water jacket. Needless to say, this engine isn't going to be running over the weekend. The guy has a spare, smaller 1.6 wet sumped Lotus twin-cam engine that he might try and fit for us. However, it's highly unlikely to realistically be ready in time.

Oh God, that sucks.

I hope you:

a) get your engine back at some stage and,
b) get your money back.

It's just obstacle after obstacle. :banghead:

Good to see you made it out at Silverstone, Dan. 👍

And he went to steelies this round, too...
Err, those shots were from practise and the alloys were still getting the tyres fitted. Here's some shots from the race, with alloys attached....

LOL! driving Jim Clark style with a wheel in the air, were we?

By the way, who got the Marlboro sponsorship? I'll bet that guy has some dough.

((OOC: And yes, I know that reality's a bit, "Virtual"...))

Had my first quiet day at work for a couple of weeks so i thought i'd update this thread with some Silverstonie pictures. Needless to say, we attended purely as spectators 👎

Home for the weekend was some smart marquees situated on the Club straight. The area with the front down with No.37 on it was for us :(

Lining up in the assembly area before qualifying.

After they were let out of the assembly area, the cars were ushered through the pits to que up at the exit and wait for the lights to change from red to green (cue plenty of Lewis Hamilton jibes). As soon as the V8 Mustangs and Falcons started rubbling past the pit garages, all the F1 mechanics started pilling out to have a look at us, they were genuinely interested in the cars, having a good look around and asking questions etc. There was a great comic moment that i failed to capture on camera when a 60's Corolla just happened to stop outside the Toyota F1 garages, one of the Toyota guys grabbed the lolly pop and held it infront of the driver 👍

Pat Simmons and Seb Vettel even ventured out and chatted to some of the drivers whilst they waited to go out. Unfortunately i'd left the pits by then to go and watch the cars through Becketts - only managing to capture the moment on one of the giant screens.

Come time on the Sunday, i decided to watch the race from the pits. From the inside of the circuit you don't really get much of an impression of the angle of the corners or the speed of the cars, especially if you've just been watching the F1 race before hand! I positioned myself on the pit wall next to the Torro Roso 'prat perch', although the screens were'nt showing any of the video footage from around the circuit like they were for Saturdays qualifying, the timing screens were working so at least i could see what was going on to some extent. With the high wire fences on the pit wall you can't see a thing when looking down the track at an oblique angle, you only really catch sight of the cars when they flash directly past you.

After the race had finished most of the historics pit crews headed back to the paddock area, my step brother, his girlfriend and i decided to hang around for a while and see how long it would be before the marshals/officals kicked us out of the pit lane. Most of the F1 teams were busy packing up and none of the F1 drivers or major team players were around. I'd noticed that ITV's Steve Rider was hanging around outside the Mclaren pits earlier and after a while press photographers began to gather there too. All of a sudden there was a hive of activity inside the garage and all the Mclaren team pilled out and positioned themselves for a team photo. We pushed our way through the photographers and got to the front just in time to see Lewis and Heikki come and sit at the front with the two trophies for that day.

Ron Dennis looked happy for a change!

Steve Rider then interviewed Lewis Hamilton for the ITV highlights show.

I almost got close enough to nick his cap and do a runner!

Cool photos, Dan.

You should have stuffed your phone under Lewis' nose, introduced yourself as "TheCracker, GTPlanet" and asked if he played GT5P/GTR2/P&G...

What, like Ford Falcons?

Yep exactly like (US) Ford Falcons.

Ford of Europe homologated the '64 Falcon Sprint for racing and mainly rallying. It had lots of lightweight bits on it like fibreglass bumpers. They are very popular and successful as historic touring cars these days.

I suppose you didn't got to the Historic Racing Festival at Castle Combe then...Although I did get some photos of cars that "looked" like yours...

No, didn't go. Don't often go to Castle Combe, it's a pain in the arse to get to from up here and the draconian noise limits are a major put-off too. Looking at the results it would appear that with Mini's coming 1st and 3rd it was a wet race?

Surprisingly not, the qualifying was absoultely soaking which allowed the Mini's to get some decent starting positions whilst the more heavier cars trailed behind. However when it came to the actual race the track had been dried by the baking sun, (It was incredibley hot down there!) and the track was bone dry. I'm not quite sure how the Mini's held it to be honest!

Wow, that is surprising. Quick track. Though it can be quite narrow iirc.

Yes, very fast track, especially around some of the long sweeping corners. It's also as you say narrow in places too, it must be about 1.5 cars wide in some places, although it does widen out in some more dangerous sections.

Why oh why didnt I buy those tickets off you :(

Awesome pics
