2008 Subaru Impreza WRX [Pics inside]

Oh dear.

That's all I can say. It's as if the designer took parts from other cars that simply wouldn't work together, and then made a collage with them.

Oh dear. :indiff:

*Important notice to Subaru.*

Please, please, do not let whoever designed this design the next Legacy. Please. Infact, just keep the curent Legacy until the guy leaves, and then hire Chris Bangle because he'd be able to do a better job. Our local Subaru dealership has quite literally taken to hiding their B9 Tribeca's behind Legacys and the current Impreza, and while I think they can substitute some Foresters for the Imprezas when this rolls in the dealership is right opposite the children's ward of a hospital. Poor kids. :nervous:

Wow. Someone really ****ed up the Mazda3 with photoshop... damn ricers...

By the way, since I can't believe that this is happening to one of our favorite Japanese sedans, I looked it up. Various sites say that although the Impreza may be offered as a hatchback, it is almost certain that it will be offered in a sedan iteration also. They also showed pictures of past photoshops depicting how the current Impreza was supposedly going to look, one of which was waaay off. The other two were close, but still obviously different cars--about the only similarities were the headlights and grille. One site also had hopes that this was not the Impreza at all, because on a picture of the supposed WRC car--which actually doesn't look that bad, mainly because of the grille and WRC spoiler, kind of like a Corolla rally car--there was a Pirelli (or maybe BFGoodrich?) sponsor sticker, and Subaru WRC cars recently switched to BFGoodrich (or Pirelli? I know Pirelli was involved somewhere...). I would get you the links, but this school computer--an Apple G3 which is some ghetto-ass **** right there, is too slow for me to want to bother..

*burp-uhp* Oh, geez, excuse me. I just threw up in my mouth a little...ugh.

Two years of watching what Mitsubishi (and everyone else) was coming out with and this is what Subaru chose? The product manager should not only be fired, he should be blacklisted from all design-oriented jobs.

Also you do realise that that means that the Evo doesn't have it's arch rival anymore as it has grown old and fat in only a couple of years. Do you think this car is designed more for the american market as most japanese companies are doing that now and have seemed to have latched on that most americans like their small cars.

That doesn't matter since BFGoodrich is the supplier now, but Pirelli will be back for 2008-2010.

i almost confused the new impreza for a Mazda car.

that's the car which is supposed to be the ultimate mid-level sports toy???

The sedan:

Meh. It's apparently quite a bit larger than the last sedan, so read heavier. At least the hatch is smaller and lighter. But the sedan does have normal red taillights.

Interesting bit from Car's article; the rear suspsension is now double wishbone. I don't like the idea of a WRX with stability control, though. I think I prefer the hatch this generation...

It doesn't look that bad, although it looks like Subaru designers were eyeing the Mazda 3 hatchback. Except for that doofy-looking Chyrsler Sebring grille, which belongs on a car with a demographic twice it's age, and the somewhat derivative styling, it's not so bad.

At least, not Tribeca-bad.

I think the sedan looks a lot better in sliver.

I'm starting to like the Hatchback too!

Hm.

Perhaps the hatch replaces the wagon. I'm sure the (handsomer) Sedan will net the bigger sales.

Is it just me, or is the 'standard' Impreza less offensive?

...At least it looks like a somewhat respectable car. But I keep seeing a mix of Suzuki and Toyota...

Hmmm, It looks "fish-tanky" in that silver tone.

I hereby withdraw my previous styling comments.

...Then I stumbled upon this WRX gem...

That doesn't seem as bad as the 5-door, does it?

The only thing I see when I look at that picture:

Toyota-Corolla-S-2003-125.jpg

My thoughts exactly. That, or the new Jetta, which looks like a Corolla anyway.

This darker grille on the WRX looks quite a bit better than the early NASIOC pics, though. I could live with it.

At the risk of sounding sexist, it's funny that the driver of the car in YSSMAN's photo is female.

Maybe that's the part of the market Subaru was going for?

Yes it does. It's poop. It's so Yaris-looking, I'm officially offended and embarrased to drive my own Subaru. Subaru needs to beg Peter Stevens back.

...It isn't the prettiest car on the road by any-means, and certainly they are stealing from Toyota's bag...

On a scale of 1-10 in terms of personal offense to me, at least by comparison to the five-door WRX, this would have to be a 7 if the other was a 10.

Urban Racer has a pretty long article on it, but I'll sum it up if you don't want to read it:

5 Door WRC car, 5 Door STi.

Current model:
We're not fans of Subaru's new corporate face. Many Subaru fans like to call it the "flying v*****" (insert female body part name here)
I read it somewhere, don't remember exactly where...

Subaru has sucked since the Tribeca and flying v***** above.

I think I'm liking the Evo a whole lot more than the Impreza. I need a name change...

Well, they did fix the Tribeca...

Too bad that look didn't transfer well to the Impreza...

:yuck:

Well take the limousine and replace the front bumper, the hood, the head lights with some nice aftermarket parts it actually might be ok...

You know... some things... I just can't understand it... why ? Why ruining the Impreza ?
Well, let's wait for the STi, maybe it looks better...

I still like the ongoing Impreza(you know, the one that everybody hates) better. It does look little bit better in the new pic, but still got that below average Japanese/Korean look thing going.

Come on, Subaru. Think Legacy, Lancer, old school Skylines.

I think they need a role model:

Yes, I have to say that the Tribeca is much improved. It still sort of looks the same, especially the odd rear, but it's clearly "fixed", and no longer looks as lumpen or goofy.

Wow, just wow; how on Earth did design executives let this pass... Hopefully Subaru will realize their faults and re-create the exterior of the new Impreza with actual public considerations. If not, the Impreza is most likely screwed, the Impreza/Evo debate will finally be solved and I will be forced to admit that Ssangyong's vehichle are relatively beautiful cars.

On the other hand the new (B9) 'Tribeca' design looks rather good, but...
