I hate to say this, but the ugly, stupid “shield” grille actually sort of works on this car, since it’s the most extreme incarnation of Acura’s new styling direction (therefore, the grille looks a little more cohesive and part of the design scheme, whereas on the RL it looks so incredibly tacked on). That gigantic ass though is in X6 territory.

What in gods name? It looks like someone took a planer to a Toyota Camry.
 
The front has grown on me. The rear...no were near. The Type-S model might make it look nicer (or worse, actually), but even with RWD & more horsepower, it'd have to look a lot better than this for me to consider trading in for it when the time comes.

I kinda like it. Most of it. The front is really angry looking, but it's got a bigger ass than Trina and those exhaust tips...my lord, those exhaust tips. Those exhaust tips would hardly be acceptable on a Pininfarina concept car. No, they wouldn't be acceptable.

The military should sell all their Abrams tanks and simply park their TLs backwards. We'll scare the enemy away.

I really dislike how they took the ugly grille, and decided to see how it'd look quadruple-size out back. worst butt I've ever seen. The Bangle heiney and the C5's bubble butt ain't got nuthin on this.
 
I think companies should start hiring from some where OTHER than ART Center... oy.

Although, the TSX isn't all that bad look. I guess in the ass anyway...
 
Bleh. I'm pretty happy about a lot of new designs out there, but this... I don't think it will grow on me ever.

The last of the updated TLs looked damn-good, but I'll have to be honest, this isn't pretty by comparison. Its not bad, it just isn't all that good. Compared to the TSX, its a bit too aggressive, and the same can be said against the new RL as well.

Looks like ass and speaking of ass, doesn't that trunk opening seem incredibly tiny?!
 
For a car that will have most of its sales in America, yes, it seems a bit "small" to cram things in.
 
There is way too much flat, un-surfaced metal below the headlights, it makes for a very awkward appearance. I appreciate what they're trying for with the swage line running into the front wheel's arch, but it's again too high from the actual wheel. Or the hood is too narrow. I don't know, but that section isn't sitting well with me either. The backend is probably the worst on the current market as far as I'm concerned. The X6 is more preferable. It's like all the creases and folds that were needed to bring some life to the front end were saved to make the rear as offensively ugly as possible. The last picture is seriously unimpressive.

The interior looks decent. I hope it's quiet enough in there to ignore all the laughing.
 
Acura is busy systematically dismantling themselves, perhaps so Honda can make the brand defunct sometime soon down the line and move Honda upmarket. Because there is no logical reason for an automobile manufacturer to systematically destroy every vehicle in a range as thoroughly as Acura has in the past year and a half, and they can't have done it on accident.
 
After looking at the pics posted by Sage, it now looks like less of a disaster. :p Maybe the lighter body color makes the gigantic grille less noticeable.

I never saw the Camry headlights, or Altima side windows before. Weird.
 
The TL is officially worthless.

How can you go from this:

You may be on to something...not even Toyotas or Chinese cars look this bad.

Yeah, that last gen TL I thought was one of the best looking sedans around, too.

I'm not going to slam too hard on the new one though(yet). I've changed my mind on too many designs, lately, like the 3-series, Camry.
 
I don't like the look at all.

The previous gen (2007 I guess?) Acura TL Type-S with the fogged out rear lights and those fancy grey rims, that thing looks AWESOME. Though I would say it would be even more awesome if it was RWD instead of FWD.
 
Interior looks great. Exterior is fail. I think the design team tried to make an Optimus Prime look, but they failed.

This is the one that's getting RWD and a V8, right? Or was that the RL?

Other than that, all I can say is wow that thing is ugly. The front has grown on me slightly, but the design is waaay too daring for a car they hope to sell in any quantity.
 
No major update for the RL, yet. That one is still a V6 and SH-AWD.

It's the TL, but that isn't going to be enough to convince me. The car would have to have some major performance and some pretty great features for the price for me to consider the switch in '09. Even the interior in the new TL doesn't look as good as the last gen. It looks plain, & boring-ish. I'll drive one though when they're available, and maybe, the drive will convince.

Why does Acura/Honda think the "shield" grill looks good? It looks tacked on and just plain terrible. I do not know if there is really anything I like on this car's styling. Maybe the side profile, but that is hard to comment on without a picture from that angle. The interior does not look too bad and I am sure it is nice, but it is also nothing to call home about either.

+1 The TSX was the second best looking Honda product to me behind the TL. I even liked the prevous gen RL too. They had a KILLER saloon lineup and they drug them out into the street then shot them in the face. Bad move Honda.

I'm talking about how they managed to change it from the best driving FWD car on the market to being worse than the V6 Accord.
