2009 GTP Nürburgring trip?

I think I will have to say that I am a "no" for this. Next year will be busy, working probably. With a £300 or so trip with the college somewhere, etc. That's not a definite no, but I doubt there is much chance in me going to the Nurb.

FYI if anyone wants to stop by in Czech Republic for a night (or a few) before or after Germany for some beers and stuff I can do a good deal on accommodation. A big group would be even better. :p

Hmmm June/July is very close to my birthday, possible chance of me coming along with Pappa Bee for fun. :)

I'm a highly doubtful maybe here. I doubt I'd bring a car over, as that would mean a ferry to Britain and then through the tunnel and over, and frankly my 1.5 Almera is definitely not worth that just so as it can break down! However I might try and look into getting a cheap Ryanair flight over to it when you guys are going, might even consider hiring a car. When is the grand prix on in Hockinheim, maybe we could go at the same time and travel up to the F1 race. Just a thought, and again unlikely that I'll be able to make it, but I might, hopefully!

Edit: http://www.formula1.com/races/calendar_preview.html my mistake the race in Germany is on in Nurburg next year from the 10-12 of July, I'd say the track and area would be expensive and packed at that time, so maybe it wasnt such a great idea.

Best to go during a weekend to watch, then stay through the week to TF in the evening sessions, when the track is quiet.

I know from having a look about, that there are plenty of places to put up a tent, and do a quick trolley dash.

And I know from current experience, that "cheap" is the only option for me next year, unless that business venture Im undertaking worx out.

I don't know if this true - it may be the figment of a deranged imagination - but I think the Nordschleife is closed during the Grand Prix because the grandstand at the last corner of the GP lap is built on the track at T13.

It seems I may have the money for this now, seeing that the college trip to Barcelona isn't on, and I'm not going with the NVQ's to Disneyland.

Only just spotted this thread (through following the link in Roo's sig).

Provisionally, I'm very interested indeed. Several things play into my hands - by that time next year, ideally I will have a car much more suited to the trip. I'm also wanting a Europe trip of some sort, which will most likely be in France but may allow a day or two to hop into Germany too. This will reduce costs relative to going to the Ring exclusively for the trip, which is good.

However, a few things count against me too. I'm going away at Easter too, which means spending £500 at the very least which I won't then have for the Ring trip. Also, I'll have bought the car mentioned above, whatever it might be, so initial costs on that will be highish too.

What I'm trying to say basically is that money is an issue! Time wise I'll be fine, will have plenty of days off work.

So yeah, very provisionally interested 👍
 
Just an update on my situation too: I have cancelled my trip to Melbourne for the GP this year so I’ve unlocked some more funds for this.

Any word on the dates yet?

I think the dates are easiest to be set by you, Blake. Probably mid-July to end-August would be about most suitable time.

Of course the cheapest thing for us Brits to do is to ship the Nurb to the UK, the Pound is dropping quicker than an unsinkable boat made in Ireland

Some events, despite being on the GP circuit, will obviously be huge and worth avoiding (F1, Rock am Ring, DTM) whereas others we could probably get away with (Recaro Days, Truck Racing, Rundstreckenrennen). The truck racing comes recommended, I saw the British series at Brands Hatch a few months back and they're brilliant. And hilarious.

One of the other weekends I can't do is the 3rd - 5th July, the Goodwood Festival of Speed; much as I like you all, I'm not missing that for anything.

Because I have no one to go with so I figure I might as well just watch it on TV with some mates and save 1.5k. Plus it will be back next year, at this time last year I couldn’t say that. :p
