2 weeks pass, and we're on to the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne. Let's hope this race doesn't knock us to sleep like Bahrain did.​

Well, here we are, round 2 of the championship. It's still to early to make proper judgements of the teams, but from the looks of things, Ferrari are the team to beat. Red Bull are probably faster, but their reliability problems last race cost them victory. Not far behind at all, is McLaren, who, thanks to Vettel's reliability troubles, took the final spot on the podium. Followed by Mercedes,with Rosberg and Schumacher. Everyone else, except for the new teams, i'm uncertain about. Now onto the new teams. Virgin seems to be the faster car, but reliability, not as big a problem for Lotus, will give the ma few DNF's this season. And then there's HRT, who, are still just getting to know the car, and you can't really judge them until later on. I think, that they will eventually be faster than both Lotus and Virgin.

Let's see if this one will be a bit more exciting, it will have to be to keep me awaken that late at night.

I'm not sure if I'll sleep early and set the alarm clock or try to stay awake, which will require a saturday afternoon sleep. Both ways my GF will be pissed.
 
Expecting the same Red Bull vs Ferrari battle, but I hope Mercedes will upset them more. But yeah, I'm expecting the same kind of results as two weeks ago in Bahrain.

My heart secretly wants Rubens Barrichello to win though. Ha!
 
I am picking Vettel.

I hope its a better race than Bahrain!

I think its a late nite start here on the west coast of Canada; but that is better than those 5:00 a.m. starts:yuck:
 
I'm also picking Vettel as a possible winner here in Australia. Hope last year's incident won't happen again...

I really hope that this race is miles better than Bahrain. Well we know, Albert Park is a very tight and twisty, bumpy circuit so it's going to be awesome.

Well lucky here, we'll start the race on Sunday at 14:00 :)
 
Looking forward to this race... I hope my two drivers do better than at Bahrain.

Of course, you do realize that Mark Webber had no issues at all... Vettel's car simply had a spark plug failure (that didn't prevent him from driving the balls off of it to stay ahead of Rosberg in the final few laps)... and both Ferraris changed engines because Massa's developed problems... and Massa had bits of aero come loose.

Ferrari is lucky that their problems showed up right before the race and didn't incur a grid penalty, since teams are allowed one free engine change... and that Massa was able to bring his car back in in one piece despite one or two near offs near the end.

I pick Vettel. Maybe. Possibly. Who knows? RBR, Ferrari and McLaren seem to be the teams to beat at this point, but it all could change over the next few races.
 
Alonso again. Ferrari shouldn't have any temperature issues in the cooler evening, so can push more than Bahrain - and they weren't slow there. My heart says Webber though.
 
I just want to see Schumi get a podium finish :)

But Ill mainly be watching Lotus because I'm in love with the paint scheme
 
Looking at the poll on my F1 Column page it's currently split at 52% Alonso, 28% Vettel, 8% Hamilton and 12% Someone Else. That's the result of 25 votes so far.

I personally think it will be the same situation as Bahrain where Vettel bags pole but Alonso wins the race.

Safety cars will undoubtedly mess with predictions. Roll on Sunday :D

If this race is anything like Bahrain, I don't know what the koala bear from the old Qantas commercials will hate more - the airline or the racing(or lack thereof...).

Massa didn't ease off for him in Bahrain. Alonso aggressively squeezed him out for the position. Massa started putting in excellent laps behind Alonso mid-race, but got hobbled by aero-problems later on. And realistically... with no fuel strategy and no mechanical failures or "offs", there was no way any of the top three (or four, if you include Lewis, who was the only other car on the same pace) would be passing in Bahrain.

Alonso. Aggression. Strategy. Bold driving. Love him or hate him, there's a reason the man is double WDC and Massa isn't. Massa is a very talented driver, but he doesn't have the cut-throat mindset needed to achieve the same level of success as Alonso.
 
I went for a Ferrari 1-2 at Bahrain but had Massa to win. I'll stick with Massa again and Alonso second.
 
I'll be there at Albert Park on Friday so I'm really looking forward to this, shame I can't be there on race day but there's always next year.

Should be an awesome weekend, they're having an Italian themed Vintage car parade this year, in attendance are countless Ferrari's, Maserati's and Lamborghini's. But the car I'm doing backflips over is this...



That's right. Michele Alboreto's Ferrari 156/85. Might not mean much to many of you here, but it has alot of sentimental value for me. Just to see it drive, even at cruising pace will be a pleasure.

Massa's back, I'll be watching Schumi race for the first time and I get to see one of my favourite cars from my favourite period in Formula 1. This for me, is going to be a very, very special day.

I wasn't saying he did. I just hope he tries his best to put up a fight so Alonso doesn't get too ahead on the points.

I agree Alonso is the better driver of the two but I know Felipe has what it takes to win the championship.
 
He does. His one problem is Alonso has more of it. I wish him luck, however... as he's an excellent driver and one of the most likeable guys on the grid. ;)

I don't know about most likeable, he was for me once, but he's made some real bitchy comments recently.
One wonders if there is a psychological element going on there, as Massa had Raikkonen beat when it came to pulling the team together, but maybe he feels threatened by Fernando's presence? Massa and Alonso have had fights before.
Like I said at the start of the year, I think this relationship is far more likely to turn sour quickly than Button+Hamilton or Schumacher+Rosberg.

Yeah, but I'd put the blame on alonso for that. Don't know if anyone noticed, but after qualifying in Bahrain, at the weigh in when everyone was shaking hands etc, Alonso stood with his back to Massa, and didn't even turn round to congratulate, or even acknowledge him... It was a different story after the race, when Alonso had beaten Massa.

Now, I'm not wanting to start some arguement on a forum or anything, but I just think that it's very childish behaviour from the guy supposed to be the best driver on the grid. And before anyone starts an arguement with me, I advise you go and watch Qualifying from bahrain again. Watch Alonso closely.

I was watching on BBC1. Hope there's no repeat of Hungary 07... And as for Massa, I actually think he's handling this very well. After the whole "crashgate" scandal emerged, although he commented about it in the press, If i was in his shoes, I wouldn't have been so restrained. It basically cost him the world title.

Now I'm not saying Alonso had anything to do with it, but try and put yourself in Massa's shoes.
 
Hmm, I disagree with the idea that just the Singapore incident lost Massa the WDC, there were many factors which affected both Hamilton and Massa's season, and it could have gone either way.
By the same line of thinking, Massa was almost gifted the WDC by the Spa penalty. For all we know, Massa's fuel hose incident would have happened anyway, which was the real killer for him in that race.

In the end, you cannot say any one factor led to whomever winning or losing the championship. Massa so easily deciding to blame it on that incident says it all, he could have also blamed it on the Ferrari engine at Hungary, the rubbish Ferrari pit-light system, etc, etc. But no, its easier to just blame the current scapegoat ;).
 
Still doesn't help that he's teamed up with Mister Personality, anyway. The fact that Massa holds a grudge against Alonso isn't as big a factor in their frosty relationship as the fact that Alonso is once again paired with a rather quick team-mate... and he doesn't want a repeat of the Hamilton fiasco. He has the chance to make his mark and establish himself as Driver Number One for Ferrari, and he will use all the tools in his arsenal... including outright intimidation and Jedi mind tricks... to make sure it stays that way.

Alonso has always been petulant, brash and arrogant. But then... that's part of what makes him so fascinating. It will be a monumental task for Massa to beat him this year, whether or not he is the faster driver... simply because, again... Alonso has that killer instinct that Massa lacks.

This will be a fascinating season.

You sound like the typical Alonso hater looking for anything and everything to use against the guy, to prove why he is such a bad person :rolleyes: I also find it amusing that you are so defensive in your post, yet you don't even have your facts straight to begin with.

I suggest YOU watch the footage of Bahrain qualifying again. You will clearly see that as the footage shows Vettel walking into the weigh-in station garage, Alonso (the first one there) TURNS AROUND to give Massa a handshake and pat on the back.

Sauber have become the first team to copy McLaren's F-vent "snorkel" system. Rather than using one vent, though, they've gone for two smaller ones alongside one another.
