It always looked like a car which would look great making the transition from hard top to roadster (some cars end up looking hideous) but you loose its party piece, the Gullwing doors.

Interesting fact, the claimed 0-60 figures are dropped from 3.8 in the SLS coupé to 3.7 in the roadster. The original SLS is a gorgeous car, this looks even more classical and elegant.

Sexy.

Honestly though I think it would have been sexier as a hardtop, but that would have made it more expensive...but if you can afford an SLS anyway what difference does that make?

Looks fine with the soft top up at least. Maybe a little classier. I would buy this over the coupe.

This is a rare case (IMO) where the roadster looks as good if not better than the coupe, I would still get the coupe however.

Folding hardtops are a pain to keep good proportions with. Wouldn't necessarily be a "bad" thing if they offered a removable 1-piece hardtop though... It'd keep the performance intact (if not possibly a bit better than the gullwing coupe as it already seems to be), allow for proper lines, etc etc...

Agreed... Even though it does look sexy as hell... I would go for the coupe as well 👍

They did this with the original as well.

I'd spec the SLS to look the same as that 300SL then just park them next to each other

I've had the pleasure to drive that^ for a full day, in the sunshine, one of the finest classics ever made. 👍

Do not want.

It's going to cannibalise sales of the hotter SL's.
Without the gullwing doors it's completely irrelevant.

Usually convertibles don't float my boat... but this, wow! They've actually retained the good looks of the coupe, great job Mercedes.

Not really. It's no less relevant than the original 300SL Roadster was next to the gullwing. The gullwing is cool, but there are some places where you'd want a convertible.

As for cannibalising sales from other SLs, there's always the possibility, but then the SLS is a different beast to the other SLs.

Looks very good indeed, no doubt better than the coupe and its awkward rear window area. It also gives an unexpected glimpse to how good the SLS would look with a roof line similar to the Spoon S2000 hardtops - why not make it a proper good looking coupe instead of trying to mimic the 300SL and fail at it as it frankly doesn't look like its ancestor at all?

If they can find a way to include gull wing doors on the convertible model, then this will be my favorite Benz.

I absolutely love a hefty dose of extravaganza in any supercar but the conventional doors blend way better in the SLS than the gullwing units, they give a sober feel to the car, I love them.

I want them to do it just as a take on the engineering art of the Germans.:)

There aren't many convertibles I like, but this is one of them.

Alongside the Maserati Grancabrio and the R8 convetible, this is one sexy motorcar.

I would throw the Aston DBS Volante and the Spyker C8 as well. Although the SLS is the only one I would buy over the coupe.
