Shame the GTR is boring. The ZR1 on the other hand is fun and for true car people. And don't think I'm an American car fanboy or Japanese car hater either. I love the Honda/Acura NSX. I prefer one over the soulless GTR. I prefer even an S2000 over a GTR



Side note: don't quote me, but I think the 2012 Z06 had an advantage in the start. Meaning I think it had more of a rolling start than the ZR1 or 2005 Z06

Mreh, I think his claims can be linked to evidence from several automotive publications. The 2012 GT-R might change this, however.

First, a GT-R without all the drivers aids on is one hell of a car, and certainly fun to drive. Just because it has a "flappy paddle" gear box doesn't make it soul less.

Second, every officially timed record has a rolling start if I'm not mistaken.

Wow those tyres are impressive, 1.7-1.8 spikes (2.0 in cambered corners) and able to hold 1.3-1.4 in the corners. Not a bad car wrapped around them either. :p

Doubt the car is running regular MPS if it's pulling those consistent g's... transient g's maybe doable.

Would need to be on Cups at least.

they are the PScups.

Also for those that havent seen a GTR and z06 side by side, the GTR is damn huge. Though it does sport a sealed underbody (carbon fibre btw, looks bad ass) which the z06 does not and instead goes for a rubber spoiler in front of the tires to try and seal the bottom a bit.

Which magazine claimed the vette to be for "true car people"? Or are we talking about this "soul" thing again?
 
I wonder what the C7 ZR1 will be capable of. Maybe by 2020 we'll already see some under-200k US$ car lapping the Ring in a high 7:00 mark (7:05 with a steeper evolution of everything, maybe?)

The Vette is barely over $100k and already does mid-low 7s.
 
This is a silly arguement, calling the GT-R not a true drivers car and soulless is also a silly arguement, especially considering nobody here is likely to have driven one.

It was a good laptime, but very close to the GT-R that did not get an ideal conditions run. Also, the guy talking about Michelin tyres was very vocal about the fact that their new tyres are "Teh best evaR". Its not a scientific comparison and it's almost obvious that each new test will have the manufacturers try to find a way to ensure their car goes faster, its starting to get ridiculous.

The Mclaren Mp4-12c will likely go faster than all these cars, with the right driver/setup.


Then another car will come along and go faster, and it will jsut continue and continue.

They really should find a way to limit the tire factor. All of these Nurburgring laps seem to be as much a race against two cars as a race against two tires.
 
I don't think the C7 Vette will be blisteringly quicker than the current one, it will be more refined and rational and probably easier to juice the performance out from it. A driver friendly supercar, with better interior ( better seats please, I'm tired of reading countless reviews on which the seats weren't able to hold the fat reviewer's ass in place under hard cornering ) and probably world domination plans.

I honestly believe it will be sold in a worldwide basis, other than that, investing a huge amount of cash in such project doesn't make any sense, and therefore a tweaked version of the already competent C6 would be enough.

Sadly... no way to do that. And I'm happy. Now that manufacturers are finding ways of building and marketing street-legal tires that are basically treaded R-Compounds, they're working on making these tires rain-friendlier and longer lived. Everyone wins. 👍

Reminds me of that EVO test... where a McLaren F1 beat a Ferrari Enzo on the racetrack... because it was wearing the exact same tires as the more modern super car.
 
Niky, do you have any experience with all these newer runflats? It used to be where you always heard bad things about runflat tires regarding their performance, feel, weight, etc. I'm just wondering because they could probably squeeze out a little extra time from using non runflats.

And yes, I know there's no room for a spare. They'd have to use one of those "tire inflation kits" or whatever they call it that's an option in place of one for some cars.

Not much with "performance" run-flats... even BMW give their top-end M-cars non-runflat tires. The regular ones perform about as well as their non-run-flat counterparts... you don't really notice the weight. The only problem is it feels like the tires are pumped to 40-45 psi all the time... quite annoying over broken tarmac...
