How about less "Danica-Danica-Danica" and more "Boogity Boogity Boogity"?!

This is everything that I agree with in your post, but at least I agree thoroughly and whole heartedly. :dopey: Maybe if we all stopped giving the lady in green attention, maybe we could enjoy the racing after all... as long as Fox doesn't screw everything up with their fanatism.

Exactly what I mean. Danica's end of the day a race car driver, but the media (and media alone) are responsible for so much OTT hype.

We see so many sportsmen and women in US Sport sadly are elevated to celebrity status. People like Carl Lewis in athletics, 'Magic' Johnson in NBA and William"The Fridge"Perry in the NFL who make guest appearances in TV shows and advertise a product. Every sport has it's major figure that is more celebrity than sports-personality. And in Motorsport Danica is one of them who have been snapped up by the jaws of the US media machine. And being a woman she sadly gives something no other driver like Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch offer which makes her even more in demand. Glamour.

But for me she is no worse or better than her fellow drivers.

Sorry chaps but I am going to try inject an honest tone here. Really, i'm actually going to congratulate Danica on the Daytona 500 pole. One of the fastest laps for years, and honestly you know what - GOOD LUCK to her.

That's a function of the new car and the current rules package vs other years, and nothing more. It's not like she was the only person capable of holding down the accelerator all the way around the track because of better driving talent. EVERYONE DID THAT. Her car just happened to be a little faster. That's a credit to SHR engineers and the Hendrick engine department.

The biggest issue with Danica as we all know isn't perhaps 100% her fault - media. She came with a whole load of hype from Indycar, and that carried over. In terms of driving she is probably as focussed as anyone else is in the Sprint Cup. But in the end we all hate her because of the media attention, which is overblown.

Perhaps we should agree that really Danica we have no issue with, but it's the media overhyping things. So what if she has a relationship with Stenhouse at the end of the day? Would we give, I dunno... Johanna Long and John Wes Townley same press coverage if they were in a relationship? I think not. And there will come a stage when it will get too much for her, all the media hype.

Bottom line is Danica is still a racing driver whilst the press think NASCAR is becoming one of those trashy celebrity magazines. It's good for ratings yeah in the general eye, but the true NASCAR fans are there for the RACING.

She could refuse all of the attention-grabbing commercials from GoDaddy and not do those nearly-naked photo shoots, but then her chance of having a solid sponsor might go away. Without that sponsor footing the bill for her every step of the way, there is absolutely no way she would be in the Sprint Cup right now on talent alone.

In the Nationwide Series last year:

Austin Dillon won 2 races, had 16 top-5 finishes, and 27 top-10 finishes, including the last 12 races in a row. He is staying in Nationwide for 2013.

Elliott Sadler won 4 races, had 15 top-5 finishes, and 24 top-10 finishes. He is staying in Nationwide for 2013.

Danica Patrick won 0 races, had 0 top-5 finishes, and 4 top-10 finishes (an 8th, 9th, and two 10th place finishes). She is going to be a full time driver for a premier team in the Sprint Cup Series in 2013.

Please, don't insult our intelligence by suggesting she has "earned" this chance, when every available ounce of evidence suggests otherwise.

"earned" - I didn't say that... But at same time it's the sponsors that talk. Stewart's team have had sponsorship issues, and they need the money full stop. I know full well her record is way below Elliott and Austin's. Austin is doing a couple SC races this season remember however.

There's a few drivers who deserve SC seast ahead of her, i'd rather have as a driver Brian Vickers or Regan Smith, but in this day and age money talks.

And I reckon that all the media limelight will destroy her one day.

And I reckon that all the media limelight will destroy her one day.
Save a picture of her taking meth with Mayfield, I doubt it happens.
She's had awful results, has attempted to wreck a driver for 30th halfway through a race and ruined the Phoenix finish for many drivers. The media has done nothing but praise her.
Now, if GoDaddy leaves her on the other hand.......

Except Dale Jr actually had matching talent to go with his name and sponsorship dollars, unlike Danica.
If you're calling souvenir sales as talent then he's in a tie with Danica. The only reason Jr. did well at first was the cars he had, but after he tore up all the cars his Daddy built for him his "talent" declined quickly.

Except Jr's best years were 2003 and 2004, two/three years after Earnhardt died.

If Junior was only ever in the sport because of his last name, where's Kerry?

Junior got his ride because of his dad, but he could legitimately drive it. He might not have shot up the ranks so fast, but he would have made it to Cup anyway by 2003. Junior Nation was always annoying, but at least it wasn't Danica bad when he was actually winning races.

You have no idea how much I despise Waltrip for that. I mute my TV every time he does it. In my opinion, it doesn't help the sport with the "redneck" image it already has. 👎

I agree. I also don't care for LarryMac, either.

On the subject of Danica... The reason I don't care for her is one very simple one; her attitude. That's the issue I have with her. I have the utmost respect for any driver, whether they are female or not. It's the attitude that a driver has that makes me like or dislike them - Marcos Ambrose (even with the beard) and J.P. Montoya are two of my favorite drivers, and not just because of the diversity they provide - it's the 'don't mess with me' attitude the two have.

They aren't 🤬 about it like Danica is - I remember an IndyCar race when Danica and someone got into a dustup because she blocked him (I think it was Vitor Miera?) and he had nowhere to go at the speed he was driving at, hit her, and she got on her high horse about it.

John Cleland was another favorite of mine, but I wish I had been born 12 years before my actual birthdate so I could watch the guy in the present, and not in the past.

It was hilarious when he did it when they did the Bathurst 1000 a couple years back. He said it about 5 seconds early because of the standing start.

Same here. Danica likes to play the "victim" role whenever something happens on the track to justify her own actions. Worst part is, the media plays along with that BS. For some reason, she feels like she belongs in the top ranks of NASCAR.

Remember when she wrecked herself using Sorenson at Indy? And ESPN spent a few minutes laying Sorenson out to slaughter?
Or that time Jaq wrecked her and ESPN spent the entire post race complaining about it?
Or that time in the same race Paludo led a couple laps and got passed by Danica? And Paludo was never once mentioned by ESPN the entire day? While Danica was more or less cheered to the front?
Good times, good times........

People need to understand the difference between a 'sport' and a 'business'.

You've all already spent multiple pages justifying her existence in the business, regardless of whether she is or isn't successful at the sport.

Suppose to be the "next big thing".

Tony Stewart has said that Larson is the next Jeff Gordon.

Didn't they say the same about Joey Lagano?

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned.

12 years ago today we lost Dale Earnhardt.

R.I.P.

That is one of my favorite pictures of him ever. Between the grin, the sunglasses, and the checkered flag reflection, it really shows a great image of the intimidator.

I'm not a huge NASCAR fan to be honest, I like it, but my heart lies in sports cars, etc. That being said, I've always really liked Dale Earnhardt, he was one cool dude and obviously he could drive the wheels off anything, he was a great driver, a great guy, and he didn't take any BS off and on the track, if only he was still around today.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer, but if Dale Earnhardt were still here today, then I think we would have had more than 1 death in the Cup Series since 2001.

^Agreed. It would've taken NASCAR much longer to mandate the safety devices that are now mandatory (SAFER barriers, HANS device, etc.) and we would've lost drivers such as but not limited to Elliott Sadler, Michael McDowell, Jerry Nadeau, and Eric McClure. Anyways, this should be everybody's final Dale memory:
