NASCAR has a major announcement at 3 PM est. today.
Rumor has it on Twitter that this is the new TV contracts, with FOX taking the first half of the Cup/Nationwide season using a mix of FOX and FS1, and NBC taking the 2nd half of the Cup/Nationwide season using a mix of NBC and NBCSN. ESPN and TNT are out.
The new contracts would take effect in 2015.

Not a rumor, its confirmed. Leave it to NASCAR to not hush up all parties as the story was already leaked. Wonder who will get the Truck Series? This is essentially what they had BEFORE ESPN came in anyways.

Oh the nostalgia

Trucks have always been on a separate contract, they'll be shown on FS1.

Hmmm, so does that mean the NBCS crew that handles F1 and IRL will now do NASCAR? Where does this leave Allen Bestwick? Will he jump back to NBC?

The downside is anyone that currently doesn't have NBC Sports.

Its not entirely bad as they are also using the regular NBC channel as well so people confined to the regular Network TV aren't completely shut out.

I would hope NBC can get somebody like a Leigh Diffey. Im so tired of all the NASCAR announcers being nothing more then baseball play by play men. Even if Darrell Waltrip is suppose to be the color commentary and does a good job of that once in a while he still slips back into play by play way too often

ESPN has ABC, but 97% of races are NOT on OTA.

Dippy needs to be deported along with Peeeeeeerz Moron.

Which seems to be 50% of America.

As an unexpected side note, JetBlue carries NBC Sports and what's currently called Speed Channel. If I have to fly on Sundays, I'm going to start looking at their flight maps.

While I'm happy that TNT will no longer be airing races, it means we still have to listen to more of the "Hillbilly Twins" butchering the English language. 👎 Hopefully they retire before next season.........

Wonderful Tribute Scheme there for Allgaier 👍

If I can find the darn LEFturn logo, I'd like to attempt that for iRacing.

I just wish cable companies would stop ruining sports for average folks. I don't have cable (I have the most basic because it's like few bucks a month). Half the year or more I have to find a stream which sucks as you can't just watch it as comfortably as I can from a TV (yes I probably need to invest in cords to hook up to my tv).

On side note, Eldora looks like it might be better than I expected.

Such an odd site seeing the trucks sideways through the dirt but then again, I said the same about the TORC series when they plowed through the turns. Looks just as cool.

One thing I do wonder is going off the winged sprint cars, maybe having something like a blade across the top (down the right side) of the Truck as well as some more of that skew as well as some additional stagger would help them turn through the dirt better.

Anyone watching Speed right now? Practice going on right now for Eldora. It is going to be so interesting seeing these trucks go to work in anger in racing tomorrow night.

Can't wait. Haven't been this excited for a truck race in a while. Tomorrow night is going to be madness.

I heard "discipline" in the Practice coverage on Speed. I mean discipline as in a certain kind of racing here. Kind of like how you have disciplines. I sincerely doubt these trucks are going to go into the corners like sprint cars or even like dirt late models. What will be interesting to see is how 30 of these trucks will do going around Eldora. In no way am I fully educated on dirt track racing, but I do think this will be very exciting to watch. I may even equate this Mudsummer Classic to something like this to... say, when NASCAR Nationwide had those races around Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve in the rain.

I think the winner of this one will be the one best adapted and best suited to a challenge as new as this one. Dirt track experience will help, but can you wrestle one of these trucks around a dirt oval when you're mostly used to racing on asphalt or concrete? Tomorrow night should be VERY interesting.

Well you have a few folks in the field who have talent on both, so I think they have best chance to win this but someone with less talent who is slower could play into that.

Which brings up my issue these days with NASCAR fans more than anyone. Townley spun a few times and people start bashing him, last I
checked we aren't in the car regardless so to judge them is kind of harsh. It easily nearly as easy as we want to think it might because we sim race or think someone has no talent. I'm not saying if one of us got into a truck that we couldn't adapt and actually be decent but chances are probably not after few years to be honest. The other thing is there is a law of nature that says there will be elite things, average and below average....it happens in everything in every form, even in the highest level of motorsports but the gap is a little closer so to speak! I'm off my soap box but just hate when people bash a driver.

Trucks are a lot more open competition wise then say Cup would be at dirt because the vast majority of Cup drivers A. have never driven on dirt or B. haven't in many, many, many, many years. All of the dirt track specialists like Kenny Wallace would be stuck in some horrible ride like the road course ringers and wouldn't have the equipment to get up front.
In trucks you have about 10-12 drivers with a chance. In Cup you'd have 5 at most. That's why you'll probably never see a Cup dirt race even if somebody would make a 70,000 seat dirt track because it would be a waste of a race.

I don't get NBCSN, so it looks like I'll be missing out on quite a few races. :( Does anyone have any idea if FoxSports1 will keep the same channel number and everything as SPEED? And if so, do you think the current providers will continue to carry the channel with whichever package you may happen to have? If Dish Network boots SPEED/FoxSports1 out of their 150 package, that means I'll miss even more races. That will not make me a happy camper. :grumpy:

Pretty sure it'll keep its channel number. All it essentially is Speed channel changing its name and program lineup. It'll still be on the same channel.
