ESPN & TNT decided not to renew with NASCAR: According to a Sports Business Daily report, ESPN and Turner ditched NASCAR not the other way around. ESPN and Turner Sports each informed NASCAR in early July that they did not intend to bid on the available television rights packages, Sports Business Journal reported Monday. The rationale was similar for both organizations declining television ratings made NASCAR a less attractive property. Turner, according to the report, "ultimately decided that more NASCAR races weren't worth the investment." ESPN, meanwhile, "had soured on the sport because of declining TV ratings, an aging fan base and a tough ad sales market." The report casts a somewhat negative light on both NASCAR apparently abandoned by two high-profile broadcast partners and NBC Sports, which will pay $440 million per year for rights through 2024.(Sports Media Watch)(7-30-2013)

I just don't get the rational of ABC/ESPN, one of the reasons ratings were/are falling is because you put every damn race on a pay channel! That's like building a McDonald's in the desert, than claiming the reason you are losing money is because nobody want's their food and not because you built the damned thing in the middle of nowhere.

I never understood why they switched from prime stations to ESPN which not everyone has.

For infomercials and re-runs of crappy shows of course. I wish I was lying, but during the time Indy was going on they were airing a thrilling expose on Zumba Fitness followed by re-runs of Whodunnit?

I would say I hope NBC does a better job, but they would have to be trying pretty damn hard to be worse than ESPN so it's not really needed. I'd imagine they will at least air more than 1/10 chase races on the OTA channel.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, ESPN doesn't really see any auto sport as a true sport, but they're willing to broadcast everything even street basketball. Most of the crap they show doesn't have much rating, and I think they just never cared for Nascar. I rather Fox and NBC fight for the rights to broadcast nascar, because Turner had no reason to show it they did a horrid job and ESPN was worse.

We should be glad that it was relegated to ESPN3 like ALMS and other auto sports. Nationwide I could have easily seen being sent to their.

Also you made the greatest point ever, they're on pay channels that only certain companies have on lesser packages to other cable companies. Time Warner I could get ESPN, TNT and Speed, Cox with a similar package I could not. And even if I could what's the point, when all of us know that ABC could host it they really don't have anything on that network worth anything.

I would say I'm more frustrated than worried about it.

Also, in 2009 ABC/ESPN averaged 5.489 million viewers(all chase races were on ABC), in 2010 they averaged 4.494 million(1 chase race on ABC).

Hopefully this means Allan Bestwick goes back to NBC.

Bestwick/Dallenback/Petree?

Bestwick/Dallenback/Hobbs???? :dopey:

Well I'm saying don't be frustrated, the issue is with ESPN I'd say more so than Nascar and that was my point. ESPN doesn't know how to treat any auto sport...well I can't say that, they for some reason think rally cross is going to be as big as nascar, since they keep showing it all the time.

Please no.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I find Bestwick annoying as heck. He's the John Madden of Nascar.

Allen Bestwick reminds me of Alan Harper, the annoying little brother of Charlie Sheen's character on Two and a Half Men.

I always found Benny Parsons the John Madden of NASCAR. Then again, I hate Madden and love Parsons.

Two words: Joe Buck

Who can forget Phil Simms. Leigh Dippy is the embodiment of these two blow holes.

Last week around this time, NASCAR Trucks were ready to rock around Eldora after all the Heat races were complete. I still thought it was cool what all happened last Wednesday. I was actually very impressed seeing for the series handled the racing action. NASCAR Trucks will be back on tarmac now- they'll take on the Tricky Triangle known as Pocono this Saturday afternoon.

So one week after the Trucks took on Eldora... has the excitement lingered in you still?

By the way, here was something I didn't get to mention any earlier. This Tweet after the Trucks raced at Eldora and before Nationwide would take on Indy over the weekend. How would you respond to this Tweet:

"The Nationwide Series races needs to go back to ORP. If Eldora is a lessen learned for #NASCAR, it will happen. More short tracks."

I died at the "Thank you, based Paula" Pic

The Info for my satellite feed said that the Nationwide Series replay from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on right now was from Lucas Oil Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Well... since when was IRP (as I've always known it) over 2 miles long, can seat six-figure numbers of fans, and had bricks at the finish line?

I read Joey Coulter's #18 truck will carry the colors of the upcoming FOX Sports 1 network (that network that spells Speed Channel's slow and methodical death) at Pocono this weekend and Michigan later this season. Why don't somebody come up with a "I'll Miss You, Speed Channel" truck?

So tony is driving the go daddy car this weekend. I knew it was only a matter of time before Godaddy pulled their sponsorship on Crashica.

The official entry list says they both are running Godaddy cars, so it doesn't look like that is the reason.

I'd prefer it if the Nationwide Series did race at Lucas Oil Raceway Park instead of the Speedway.

Edit: Here is the #14 for this weekend.

How dumb, I like GoDaddy paint schemes but not the people driving those cars. :irked: At least in NASCAR, IndyCar would be a totally another story.
