Why do we need to retire it? It's was already a given for years that it would be back with Austin, so I fail to understand all this anger toward RC over it.

And whoever claimed Cherrios was blue and yellow, when? Last I've checked it's always been black and gold since they have a BEE as their little character!

This doesn't bother me in the least on any level as I think it's kind of weird to retire numbers in general, what if someone grew up worshiping that driver or number and can't use it when he respects it? I'd rather it get passed on to someone who will honor it than taken off list because of something. Dale Jr runs a family number, what's this any different? Petty is in control of his but they have had tons of drivers in 43 outside him and no one bats an eye over it because he is one saying so.

You could have easily said it was Richard's number to begin with. Then you win all the Internets against one-sighted fans.

Exactly. This has been in the making for years so I don't understand the surprise and rage either. Also people once again keep forgetting the same guy who gave Dale Sr that number is the same one who is giving Austin this number.

 I've hardly been around, so "at every opportunity" seems like paranoia on your part, but I asked you to tell me first :dopey:.

Maybe, but does this ring a bell?

So the only great one was Brad's win in a dodge, cause that's what happened last year.

You want a direct link? Or maybe my response?

Now that I'm worked up though, I'll tell you

MY DAMNED OPINION!

No, they shouldn't retire the numbers. In other sports, you have a jersey with a number on it, and usually a name, and there are many cases when an athlete uses a number to honor another player WHEN ON ANOTHER TEAM OR IN ANOTHER SPORT, see Brad Daugherty at UNC. There are 32 teams in the NFL, 30 a piece in the NHL, NBA, and MLB, and untold numbers of soccer/futbol clubs worldwide that call on their own list of numbers, usually from 0 to 99, for any player. Unless NASCAR changes the rules(something they've been doing a lot of lately), each national series has 110 numbers to choose from for every team that competes(not sure about Modified rules or East/West series rules). For one weekend, retiring numbers would be fine. A handful, sure. A season even, OK, but look at this season alone.

The only numbers I haven't seen regularly in Cup races are 00s(09 the last) and 60s(can't think of one). Sure you could retire numbers from competition, but what you do for one, you will eventually have to do for all. Retire the 3, and enough idiots will call for 43 to be retired immediately. All would be fine, but only for a moment because then ICEYOU would be leading the charge for retiring the 24 after Gordon's retirement, and now you have to look at other iconic names and numbers LIKE Junior Johnson's various numbers as an owner, 11 leading the charge with DW and Cale, the Wood Brothers 21(again by nostalgic morons) with Pearson, Bill Elliott's 9, and then there's the argument that Hall of Fame should mean retiring the number. If that sounds like an argument even ICEYOU would call idiotic, that's because it is, but you better believe that it does exist. The thought that the moment you are inducted into the Hall of Fame, you're number is retired immediately, adding the 2 of Rusty Wallace, the 42 of Lee Petty, at least one of DW's numbers(11, 88, or 17) of which no one would agree and all three would be retired, either the 12 or 22 of Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough's numbers aide from the 11, and on, and on, and 🤬 on.

There. You're turn LMS.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The 3 is back:

Won't get into using the 3 but seriously, why are people paid to make such awful, boring and unimaginative paint schemes? I bet most of us in this board could come up with something better.

I'd have splashing milk all around the bottom with a few floating Cheerios. Add box image to the hood. Done. Now, where's my money?

So it's baseless theory time!

Today when I went to grab a bag of Bugles I noticed something odd about the usual car on front. On the side of the car the #31 was blurred and barely visible and only the #3 could be seen on top. Along with this Jeff Burton's name wasn't visible. Now, normally I would just write this off as nothing more than bad editing until I got thinking.

1) General Mills sponsored Austin Dillon at the Daytona 500.
2) Richard has said he has partial funding for a 4th car which would mean the third car is fully funded.
3) Austin is heavily rumored to use the #3.
4) GM has taken some time to update the car on the front of Bugles' bags. For awhile they still had the #43 even after they moved to RCR and they used the winged COT until they switched to the #31 on the package last year. So them being up to date with a Gen 6 car on the front is rather out of character.

Of course this is probably just the product of a bored mind, but it could happen.

Called it.:sly:

Look as it sails over your head and into the uprights. I was waiting for you to pull that one out, that happened five days ago first off. Secondly, I wonder how you survive the net by holding on to such words over a period of time but meh, chalk it up to you having issues.

Also clearly you didn't get the post, which was basically saying. You got your years wrong you were saying that 2012 was the great Tony vs. Carl, when in reality 2011 was. 2012 as I say and ask, to help you fix it, was Brad vs. JJ. Also if you really read my post, I don't want any number retired because it isn't like the NFL or NBA or MLB where that works. NASCAR has one set of numbers now multiple teams with one set.

Good job on taking stuff personally.

OK. So you took MY poor wording and arranged your reply in a way that was both clarifying and insulting. Fine, I'll grant you that one. But you then decide to jump in on my post, which I stated was NOT aimed at you, a response to Dave's post juuuuuuust before you're post to be precise, and you turn around and reply...

Yeah so do I and I remember Earnhardt's dad being around before 79 as well, go on though...

Now, I may not be a damned genius, but I would almost wager this is an insult directed at me. You called me out, and I replied. Do I take **** personally? Yes, I do. Do I have issues? **** yeah. Does anyone give a damn? Ask someone, I wouldn't know.

Jumped on it by adding to it? Not sure how that demeans or belittles you.

I must ask, who hurt your poor soul, who wronged you friend, who, WHO???!!!:scared:

I hate to break it to you, but I think your paranoia tendencies led you wrong this time and thus you got a well known smart ass on the forum to retort. Not sure why (other than what I said) you felt "called out", but I was just tagging along with what you said. This gets further obvious by comments I made after yours to others that goes out to destroy the foundation of "RETIRE LEGENDARY NUMBERS!!!". Anyways if you wish to keep this going we can.

You guys do realize nascar can only retire font styles and not the actual numbers themselves right?

You do realize this is NASCAR we are talking about where rules aren't all that consistent.

Also you must further realize that if Gordon doesn't get it together, you'll only have 9 more weekends with us (at the most)?

I GET THAT! Why do you think I didn't elaborate further one THAT instead of you're replies. The short of it is, I took what you said as putting words in my mouth. I don't deal with that from anyone, not friends, not family, and especially not someone I have never met before.

Don't need a life story, from what I see you wish to move on and are trying to clear the air. So call it clear and we'll go back to trying to keep ICEYOU in line, happy?

*Yawn* Ring me up when that actually happens.

In 9 weeks time?? Cool.

That's if you make it that far, the championship could be locked up after race 5 or 6 if Matt keeps running like this. And nothing from the season suggest he wont be especially the second half so...

Good luck
