I really thought that I read somewhere that it would also come with AWD.

It shares it's platform with the Opel Insignia, so it still can happen.

Front three-quarters shot screams Lincoln to me, for some reason. Might be the wheels. The interior looks nice, and I like how the stereo moves up to access some storage space, but I'm not quite sure about the exterior yet. The car as a whole looks awful big for only 175 horsepower pushing it, though; I have a feeling that quite a few of these cars are going to have the V6 underneath the hood. (As an aside, are the horsepower wars back? Dodge came out with their 283-horse V6, Toyota had their 268 HP V6, and now Chevy's got 303 horsepower. I'm not counting the EcoBoost, 'cause it's turbocharged and that's cheating. :lol:)

I'm glad someone else said it, I was going to but I wanted to see if anyone else would. Didn't want to seem crazy. It looks to much like the new Lincoln.
 
Id daily the **** out of it, cold AC, comfortable on long trips, cool gadgets inside,decent MPG what else do you want, i give it 2 thumbs up
 
The interior is great as well. Poses a question, why buy a Lacrosse over this, and are the couple extra features of the XTS worth it?

I mean, they only spent a billion dollars on Zeta and then proceeded to use it for basically nothing except cars it is ill-suited for, so why change now?

Moving the Impala this far upmarket, combined with some previous news means a couple of things:

  • GM is well aware that people want a rear-drive sedan
  • By not having a Zeta sedan in the US, they're losing money both in the US and in Australia
  • The Impala's replacement in NASCAR is "supposed to be a car never raced before in the sport," which means it isn't the Malibu, Impala or Camaro
  • Even though the Caprice PPV is just hitting fleets, demand is pretty high for civilian versions
  • Technology exists to make "decent" fuel economy easy for a large rear-drive sedan, and with the economy begining to turn around, it'll be that easier to work out

The announcement will likely come when they debut the 2013 NASCAR model, whatever it ends up being. GM will milk whatever is left in the Zeta platform until they start switching it out to an enlarged Alpha chassis.
 
They're already preparing a car on stretched Alpha. (CTS) Due out next year or so.
 
What's with these new cars actually looking reasonably good lately? MKZ, Impala, new Viper.
This is a good thing of course.

But it should be RWD. a full-size car like this is just not the same without it.

There's no reason to make it RWD, probably 95% of people who buy an Impala don't care which wheels are powered. They are looking for a reasonably comfortable and affordable car to carry themselves and their families.

I mean would the car really be any better if it were RWD? It's still a big, heavy, land yacht of a car that has suspension tuned for ride quality, that's not something most people would consider sporty.

Just leave the family sedans FWD, it works for a vast majority of the car buying population who are just looking for a car. People who care about what they drive probably wouldn't be looking at an Impala in the first place.
 
That looks stunning, I love the belt line, lights, wheels; infact the entire design as a whole, But the best thing? No corporate grill!!!
 
While I'm not surprised it's front-wheel drive, I feel that the rear end of the car was designed for Sir Mix-a-Lot.

I'll give you guys a(w)ful(l) rundown if it, when it's unfortunately rented to me.
 
I think it looks pretty good. Reminds me of the new Ford Taurus quite a bit. But what the heck is up with the drivetrain? 4 cylinder FWD. FWD for a car that size is not a big deal but 4 cylinder does surprise me? :crazy: I am guessing it is to try to get better gas mileage but would have probably been better on gas with a 6 cylinder. Unless they beef up that 4 cylinder, its going to struggle pushing that car around with a full family all the time.
 
I think the car looks good. The front, side and interior is up to my likings eventhough I can see a bit of Taurus, Passat etc. but the rear is a bit bothersome. I think I've seen like 7 or 8 cars with that similar rear end design. Otherwise, it's all good!
 
Those charger wanna-be rear fender arches, ruined the car in my opinion. Why does a front wheel drive sedan need exaggerated rear arches?
The car looks just fine til you get to the rear wheels, even if the front has a previous gen accord/sonata feel to it.

Wonder what will be the starting price, and if Cadillac will get a version too. My guess is low $40,000s.
