First it was all the new Maradona's faults - Ortega and Riquelme never quite panned out. Now they have their new Maradona - and no one else.

As for best players? Di Maria and Zabaleta (I play as a right defende so I might be a biased here) spring into mind. And I'm not counting Kun because he is injured. Lavezzi and Higuain are not bad either.

The referee wants to play...

Argentina are giving away the ball with gay abandon at the moment... but the Swiss don't look very threatening even when they are being handed opportunities.

He might as well. Noone in blue or red is doing much of it. Messi looks dangerous, but he has no help, and is triple teamed every time gets the ball.

Worst game of the tournament so far. Which ever of these teams get through, they won't win the tournament.

Uhuh, I got bored and watched the tennis instead. I've only turned it on now because of the prospect of penalties.

DI MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great goal... brilliant run by Messi and perfectly timed/weighted pass...

Cheerio Switzerland.... we hardly knew ye.

edit: Jebus... more excitement in the last two minutes than in the rest of the game put together. So unlucky for the Swiss!!

It isnt like any of the other teams already through have put their hand up though.

Well I chose a good time to turn on the TV. Went out during half time and came back expecting the game to have finished half an hour ago. Just managed to catch the only goal of the match.

Poor Switzerland.

EDIT: And Shaqiri hits the post. :ouch:

Poor Argentina. If it wasn't for one player, they wouldn't even have got this far.

A free kick to the Swiss as the last kick of the game, interesting.

Damn. That game had "mass brawl" written over for a few minutes.

Looking like the common sense teams are all eventually going through. i wish there was a big suprise in these last 16 matches.

Drama right at the end, but I think we all knew Argentina would score and go though, poor Switzerland though, worked really hard..

I'm sure there's something weird di Maria looks like.
I'm just not sure who, or what, it is.

Maybe it's Buemi

Or Herrera

No, I saw di Maria first, therefore Herrera looks like him.
I'm sure Twitter will enlighten me on such 'banter'.

For me this last last 16 game is the most interesting one, we haven't seen the best of Belgium yet and USA have been impressive thus far, going to be a battle this!

I must apologize in advance to my American friends and confess that I'm supporting Belgium tonight...

Come on you Belgiumians!

Good omen that the game is at Salvador, that stadium has already seen over 20 goals in just four games including Holland's demolishing of Spain...

Big surprise team news wise is that Origi starts, just his 6th cap with Lukaku dropping to the bench...

/two hours late

As amusing as the whole USA hype train has been, I'm putting myself down as another Belgium supporter tonight. And not just because of the beer I'm drinking.

So far in the 2nd round, only the group winners have progressed...

Mostly close game though, the only one sided one was Colombia v Uruguay...

As predicted...who'd have thought they'd all make such a hard time out of it though. Apart from Colombia.

You guys have no idea how incredibly hyped this entire little country is for this match. 2/3rd of the country has been granted an hour later to show up at work tomorrow morning

The games have definitely tightened up since the group stages, mind you the group games were mental!

Good to see the referee has a can of shaving foam handy just incase Marouane Fellaini's hair gets any bigger.
