We’ve caught the sixth generation Maserati Quattroporte testing many times, but each time, the car was still heavily camouflaged. Well, not anymore! Today, our spy photographers have caught the car testing somewhere in Italy and, as seen in the images, the prototype is in less cladding then ever before.

The new Quattroporte will be moved to an entirely new rear-wheel drive platform that will use lightweight aluminum in an attempt to reduce the car’s total weight. On the exterior, it will adopt a much sharper design with elements inspired by the latest GranTurismo models.

Rumors say that the new Quattroporte will be offered with two new engines developed by Ferrari at the Maranello factory: a turbocharged V8 engine and a supercharged V6 engine, both mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Maserati Quattroporte’s official specifications will be announced in March 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned!

Well, they've revealed what it looks like. And I think it looks Japanese or Korean, with a Maserati grille. Quick everyone, place your orders for the old one! (my opinion)
 
The front is bearable. The rear ... isn't. As Sniff Petrol put it (on twitter) that car's got an Infinitarse.
 
The rear boot-lid line and headlights looks very Audi to me. Not one of the finest bits of all around design work.
 
I can't find anything on that car that looks really Italian. They've ruined it.
 
I like the look of it, you can tell it's a Maserati but it copied design elements of other cars a little to much.










 
Let me try to end these looks like a "insert car"

other than a slight similarity of the A6 tail lamps, it looks nothing like the models that people are comparing this car to. HOWEVER, it has similar headlamps as the Infiniti M, but yet it also has similar lights as the Gran Turismo which came out years before current Infiniti M...

Just face it people. The Quatt is just a great Evolution of the last Gen Model with the Companys new design language.

Hmmm, not really sure what to make of it, the previous Quattroporte was love on first sight for me, this one is more challenging regarding looks, not ugly but neither as breathtakingly beautiful (to my eyes) as the Gran Turismo which I hoped it would resemble more (especially the front).
Another thing is that they moved it slightly more upmarket and more into S-Class/7-series territory apparantly to make some room for the upcoming 4-door Ghibli so it's grown quite a bit as well.
 
I think, if you're going to try to quash people saying that it looks like Car X, you shouldn't post several pictures that makes those similarities even more evident and then say "See, nothing alike."
 
The the last QP was distinctive whether you loved it or not, but this one just looks like the mashing of BMW,Audi, Inifiniti and Lexus. It doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look like an Italian sedan.
 
but the real question is? what does a Italian Sedan looks like when the QP is really the only Italian sedan offered??
 
It looks alright, but that front end is just too low. With each new car gravitating more and more towards that low, snarly front fascia, it just makes me hate pedestrian safety regulations even more. For crying out loud, if you get hit by a car it's your own fault for jaywalking, and it's not even a common occurance anyways- unless you live in Russia. The hell with pedestrians, I want pretty cars to come back. :grumpy:

As we wait for the Detroit Auto Show to get our up-close and in-depth look at the redesigned 2014 Maserati Quattroporte, some details are just starting to emerge about the car's powertrain, but nothing is official just yet. Autocar has posted a first drive of the new Quattroporte, finally spilling the beans about what motivates this sporty and luxurious sedan.

We already knew that the 2014 Quattroporte will offer two engines – a V6 and V8 – but what we didn't know is that both engines will get a pair of turbochargers and direct injection. Previously, we speculated that the smaller V6 would be supercharged, but this 3.0-liter V6 will get turbos instead helping it produce an estimated 410 horsepower. As for the larger 3.8-liter V8, this engine is said to produce 530 horsepower (confirming our previous report) to go with 479 pound-feet of torque; performance specs for the V8 include a top speed of 191 miles per hour and a 0-60 mph time of well under five seconds.

All cars will have a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive will be optional allowing for all of the engine power sent to the rear wheel during normal driving and a full 50/50 split between front and rear axles when needed. As we suspected, the 2014 Quattroporte has grown in size to better compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

With the Detroit Auto Show coming up in about a month, stay tuned as we await official details from Maserati.

Rather disappointed with the new looks of the Quattroporte. The previous/current gen had some uniqueness to it that most people found questionable at first. Until the GTS came out, that's when it grabbed the attention.

Talk about blandness...and all of the plastic in that engine bay. :yuck:
 
Question. what does a Italian Style Sedan suposed to look llike? especially when the Quatt is the only Sedan offered?????
 
Blaaaaaand and laaaaame. Really, REALLY generic looking car. The Lincolns in the other thread look a thousand times better.
 
I kind of like it but it's copied other cars too much on the exterior. The interior is beautifal but, I would still take the older one even thought in my opinion it's bland.
 
Like the front but not a fan of the rear...and twin-turbos? Silly regulations probably killing one of the most characterful European sedans of all time.

If it loses it's amazing soundtrack too, that'll be the final nail in the coffin...

 
It still looks good overall: front is great, rear is fine, only the side profile is poor. Certainly not as good looking as the previous car (not many sedans have ever been), but it now looks more modern and contemporary.
 
Seen the car from some different angles now in several photos but instead of growing on me I dislike its looks more and more, just read an article on EvoMagazine where they say it now also drives more like a big limo like the 7-series or S-Class despite weighing 100kg less than the previous one.

Seems Maserati is positioning the Quattroporte as an alternative to these cars for the first time but the Quattroporte was never a conventional sedan before although maybe the eighties version was trying to do the same trick.
Most Quattroportes were essentially 4-door GT's, that was the main charm of these cars, guess that role is now going to be taken over by the Ghibli.
Has anyone told Maserati the eighties are finally over, before you know they come up with a 3-series rival called Biturbo...
 
I guess I'm the only one that thinks the last Quattroporte was a bland, incongruous, horrid design. The whole front end was dopey, the rear side windows were shaped all wrong, the tail lights had absolutely no theme in common with the rest of the car and looked Chinese (or Korean, at the time).

The new one still has a generally awkward C-pillar region but besides that is a much more congruent design. Still ugly, but better.
 
Since I'll only look at these cars rather than drive them, I'd say the styling is quite disappointing. The old version had a unique flavor to the front and a very resolved back portion, tailights were better and gave a discrete but tasteful character to the car.

This new model has a badly tacked in Gran-turismo front and a GT mimicking rear end, the result of that are slimmer lights that only contribute to make the styling look porky. This might only appeal to those who are passionate about the brand, or as a second hand option when depreciation plays it's game and it becomes "attainable".

The V8 has some impressive numbers and the interior is a positive game-up for Maserati, though.

I liked the front of the old one best, I always thought of it as a subdued menace, as opposed to Ferrari and Lamborghini.

HOWEVER, given a day or two to sleep... I must say I like the mew one from behind the headlights on back.
 
The old car was great but for a Car being the size of a 5 series (interior) while competing with the 7 series, it wasnt that great and especially for a car that costed over $100k. and dont judge on the handling of a vehical that havent been properly tested.
it has the most sophisticated suspension of any Executive Luxury sedan. Bigger than a 7 Eqqus/7 series, Lighter than a S Class, and just as powerfull. this thing will go.... This is the Ultimate Drivers car that you'll also enjoy being a passenger.
