I'm pretty sure it's either a render or a design study because the body structure aft of the firewall is all the same. Even the rear spoiler is a GT500 spoiler. Plus, the front foglights and headlights are different than the actual test mule.

It is a render. But one of the best looking ones so far.
 
No matter what it looks like, I'm buying it. I need to see the first year model engine choices and then see the following years upgrades. Nothing like buying the initial model and finding out the gearbox needs a modification(a la '05 GT).

I still see that front end style as an Aston Martin ripoff.
That also does nothing for me now since I see so many lame cars using the same style as their great cars.

Bottom line, there aren't many cars left in the Ford line-up that don't carry the AM style and I'd hate to see Ford entirely give up on using something unique. Find a new front end for the Mustang, not an over-used ripoff of another maker.

I'm surprised a car buff like you doesn't understand how the grille is one of the most identifiable parts of the car. The grille of the car is part of brand image for many manufacturers and has been for many years.
BMW and the kidneys, Mitsu and it's Lancer inspired full face grill, Audi, Lexus, and so many others all use the grille as one of the most unique and distinguishing part of their cars.

Maybe I'm wrong about that but being opinion and all, I'm sticking to it. The grille is hugely important and Ford has been wearing that Aston grille way too much for my taste.

That said, I can't blame manufacturers for using the grille as their primary means of differentiation from other makers, after all, the shapes and styles are becoming more and more bland while more and more similar with every new year. :(

Being owned by a company doesn't always mean that their designers take over and give the group the car they will build from then on. The rendering goes beyond just the grill, unlike the fusion which is tall and bulky at the front this is more slender and tight like an Aston. Though it is a rendering so no one should think that is what it will be.

The Mustang as a whole is very recognizable, but the grill of that car is legendary.

Aston Martin doesn't "own" the trapezoid. A number of manufacturers use strong trapezoidal elements.

Besides, the "Aston" grille looks more like a chubby hat.

Niky as great as I think you are, I still say Aston!!! I see more of the late 90s early 00s Vantage but that's me.
 
Aston's thing is they add kinks to the grille to make it unique.

We aren't talking about older mustangs though. We are talking about the upcoming one from the spy shots given that grill does not look anything like the older ones. It does however, look like a slender version of the Fusion which subsequently looks like an Aston.

Also since it's subjective, you'll be hard pressed to convince me and others to see it different. There is nothing wrong with it looking like that. No one (at least me) isn't saying "oh look ford ripped Aston Martin off". In reality I like it still I just think it has a similar ques which I find in many cars of varying manufactures.

And as you quoted and saw, I clarified by saying "at least me" to show that I'm not knocking them and directing emphasis to myself rather than the group that makes the claim. You can bring anyone else up that's their deal not mine and I really don't care. The point for me is, I see it and think it looks akin to an Aston grill, and it works for the car to be honest.

My GF also said it looked like a Fusion. She never heard of Aston Martin before.

That said, this applies to most generation Mustangs. Aston has had a long history of it. Toyota has done it too, similarly with the first gen Celica fastbacks.
 
I can certainly see where people get the impression, but the grille has never struck me as a blatant rip-off. It looks exactly like a sleeker Mustang grille.

If you want a truly blatant Aston-like front end on a Ford...

Planet chick where most girls live. The James bond movies are banned there as well, they only show clips of him shirtless (Daniel Craig only of course.)

She's not at all car person. She didn't even know what a wrench was today until I took her outside to tear down a bicycle.

To be fair, not many people around here have heard of Aston Martin unless they are into cars. They say, oh I like the look of the new Ford Fusion, it's cool. I'd tell them it looks similar to an Aston Martin and they look at you like:

I've never met one woman in my life that has watched a 007 with Sean Connery, more so they didn't even know who he was. Maybe where you live that is a norm but here...not so much.

As is here. In fact, I myself have never even watched a James Bond film.

Meh... I guess it's just a cultural difference. In Europe, 007 is big, especially with women.

Anyway, was that white and black camo free Mustang genuine, or was it a mock up? I can't say I was amazed, but I think the colour scheme may have been largely at fault. Looked really odd.

They are all renders so far. But they seem to be getting more realistic.
 
People haven't seen James Bond? It's a critical part of Western Film canon, like Forrest Gump or Starwars.

I still cant makes heads or tails of the new Mustang. I really want to like it, but it just looks too blah for me. While Ford has stumbled onto a winner as far as design goes, I don't feel they should use it on their higher-performance car.

Does a Chevy Cruze share a front end with the Camaro or Corvette?
Does a Dodge Dart look anything like a Challenger or Viper?

I think the Pony car should stand apart from the rest of the line. It looks great, and the Germans are doing the same with their 2 door cars. But is Ford really punching at them? No.

Although, the idea of a Mercury Cougar re-do with some more go-faster bits and a nice interior would be a start in the right direction....



On a Mustang-Related note, I saw a Shelby Cobra fitted with a Coyote 5.0 at Barrett-Jackson Reno. That got me thinking about weight- How much lighter will the new Mustang be?
