Here here, watching the race all the way since the start. I thought it would be tough to follow both F1 and Le Mans but the SC start definitely helped

What's up with the hybrids this year? Half way in and about half the field has had issues so far.

I thought many expected the hybrids to have problems this year, at least that's what I've heard from others due to poor reliability shown from past WEC races?

Well, I'm by no means an expert but I'd hazard a guess and say that it's because they're pushing it TOO hard now with still relatively new technology. Bear in mind that since 2010 or so, Le Mans has become a 24 hour sprint race and because, after decades, teams finally found out how to make almost bulletproof engines. But they don't know how to integrate those bulletproof engines with electrical tidbits in such a reliable way.

So after 12 hours who is still going on here?

Been here for all but 2 hours, will probably take another 2 hour nap shortly after sunrise...my standard 20 of 24 hour deal :sly:

Yes, at the Spa 6 hours most of them had troubles.

Yeah, Nissan showed that last year, completely depended on the hybrid as they should but their ambition was way too much

We discussed that with @R1600Turbo a couple of days ago. They should've started with a GTE-Pro program instead of jumping the gun to LMP1. How the 🤬 did they think being an engine supplier for LMP2 and a lackluster Garage 56 entry in the form of the Zeod RC could prepare them for an all-out attack? What a simply dumb decision and a waste of funds and good ideas.

True, but it isn't the high tech bits with issues is it? Turbos and water pumps of all things. Maybe the low tech bits aren't keeping up with the high tech bits...who knows?

Perhaps it's matter of coupling one to the other. The engines before this hybrid era were never subjected to the stress of producing SO much power, so perhaps development is a bit behind in that respect.

All we can do is speculate, but it's not suprising seeing them in trouble considering that it's, a., the most difficult race EVUR, b., a relatively new technology, and c., they're running faster than ever before.

Just checked the weather forecast, no rain expected for the rest of the race.

Close call with an LMP2, and a few GTE's as a Rebellion rounded them up.

The thing is, the more bits you add, the more likely it is to break down. I thought that was pretty common knowledge :sly:
