I just realized it's been 4 years already since Toyota returned to Le Mans:

It's ridiculous how fast time goes...

I think that was the peak in terms of design. When the form of the design was better than the function. Compared to the new R18, that white machine was a beauty.

Any idea when the Toyota car launch begins?

The Toyota this year looks really different from last year. It almost seems taller when you think about the valence between the splitter and the headlights.

Shame we have we have to put up with the awful VHS quality picture. I think I will just subscribe to the WEC stream.
I will subscribe too. I said I would last year but never got round to it. I can only take so much of the Vaseline effect on the MotorsTV footage.

No BOP between the new spec Gibson engine and the current P2 engine/chassis has the potential to kill the P2 field for the next 2 years. Teams that intend to wait to bring the budget to buying one of the new chassis will now be stuck racing as a 2nd class of car in the P2 field. There has to be a way to update the current chassis to run the new engine otherwise there is no reason for any teams with a current P2 chassis to race next year.

The "under discussion" part about Imsa and the ACO. :banghead:

Looks like this year is shaping up to be another cracking year. Even though it's not pretty, I hope the new Audi can catch back up to Porsche and deliver as good a fight as they did in 2015.

I agree although are they the blue of 2015? However, I would like to see them use graphite colour wheels.
I think they are the 2015 blue. The pics make them look darker. Would be nice to see. Also notice the #6 has red mirrors. The launch car also has red diveplanes instead of white on the pr pics.

Also, the rear-wing endplate has some graphical detail which the test car didn't which makes it look a little better still.

WEC must be laughing at F1! To bad there are only a handful manufactures in the prototype class but WEC is pushing technical boundaries these days. Something F1 used to do. Impressive machines by Porsche, Audi and Toyota

The ts050 is definitely the winner in the looks department. The Audi just looks like a constipated crocodile.

I'm a Porsche fan, through and through. But if there is anyone that is overdue for a Le Mans win, it's Toyota. The official hp claim of 986hp will probably be bumped to over 1000 for le mans.

LMPs are restricted to 1000hp for LM from this year.

Restricted to-....HOW MUCH HP DO THEY HAVE AT OTHER TRACKS?!

LMP1...mostly open regulations for the win.
Last year Porsche and (in theory) Nissan had upwards of 1300 HP to let loose out of tertre rouge onto mulsanne straight... Toyota was in the 1200s I think and Audi was in the 1100s

*alledgedly

Far as I'm aware and from calculations I did at the time for last year:

Toyota 500hp IC plus 550hp Hybrid = 1050hp.

Porsche 750hp (seen on a WEC infographic) ) plus 350 to 450 hp hybrid. Total 1100 to 1200hp.

Audi. 650hp plus 300 to 400hp hybrid. Total 950 to 1050hp.

There's a hybrid 300kw output limit on FIA grade 2 tracks (only Le Mans). Thats a little over 400hp. The combustion engines make around 550-600hp but they're always understated by the manufacturers.

As for testing. Porsche has done a 1:37.9, Toyota a 1:39.5 (340kmh speed trap too), Audi 1:39.8 as of an hour ago

No way was the Toyota going 340KPH. Where are the speed trap results?
