I ended up in 2nd split during Slot 2. I was really hoping for a more relaxing racing situation, haha.

I tried to spend a lot of time practicing qualifying and running full stints in race conditions and this week after a forgettable weekend in Manu. I was feeling pretty good. I was running consistently under 43 seconds and thought that had a pretty good chance of being good for a top 5 starting position. Come qualifying, I let the field pass me as I learned the hard way in practice races that a lot of things happen in Sector 3 on this track, if you know what I mean, and a solo run is safer. I had plenty of space until the last corner, where someone had gone off and was coming back onto the track in front of me. Anywhere else, and I could have lifted, but I had to commit since this race was really just one lap to get a time.

Sure enough, I ended up catching him, and he slowed me down quite a bit. I ended up starting P9 with a 43.3xx. If I had hit the 42.8s I'd been hitting in practice, I would've started P4. Oh well.

@Roman_GT23 started P2 and @GTWolverine started P4. After a great start, I managed to get to P6 by Sector 2 of L1, and had good slip. I held on for the ride until lap 4 or 5 where I ended up passing my teammate Wolverine. After the pits, I came out in P4 with someone still needing to pit. P3 for lap 8, and I held it alllllll the way until T1 L13. The fellow who had pitted last reeled me in. He was about .5 seconds back for the previous two laps, and I completed missed the no-tire-left braking point, and I let him by on the exit. At that point, my tires were toast and I just grabbed his slipstream to make sure I held my P4 for the finish.

A podium in 2nd split would've been awesome, but 202 points ain't bad either. It's sort of funny since I didn't plan on running 4 Nations slots, but my best two scores ever are from the last two events. Since I'm skipping the nord this weekend, I'll get lots of time to hope for a repeat performance and a nice finish at Fuji to finish up the season.

Was that 2nd split? Me Greasy and others were thinking it was 3rd split lol. Anyways yeah basically started second. Did some stalking of the leader while fuel saving. Looked like his tires were falling off before the pits so I made my move. Pitted as the leader. Then I lead (and got stalked), my tires were going off. Move was made on me and only could hold on until I just grazed the CoD on the last lap and got some damage. Luckily we built such a gap to the cars behind I was able to nurse home with 222 points lol. Yeah one and done needless to say. Good riddance to that Mini.

Where do I go to check how far I am from getting out of D?
You can also find it in the actual game when you click on the little GT logo in the upper left and go to your profile. It only displays your progress through your current DR as a numberless bar underneath your DR level, so it's not as informative as Kudosprime, but it gives you a rough idea of how far along you are.

That's how I check. When I see just a little white in "A", I know dropping a few positions will cost me. But at this stage in GTS, doesn't matter. The game is on the way out.

Why? GT7????? Can't be sure what PD will do, but there are loads of players like me with no intention of buying a PS5 for at least the next couple of years so if they drop support for sport what incentive do I have to but GT7 or even 8? If GT7 was going to be backwards compatible then yeah this game dies, but as is I'm not too sure.

probably. The cutoff for top split was around 58ishK I think. Pigems was in the split above us.

This is also because not a lot of people run nations. Usually there is one in between me and top split for Manu.

I was Door #18 in top split for the first race, and #16 in the second race I think? Was @Jwptexas in your race?

The support is more about fixing the penalty system and I guess the fairness of Sport Mode players. That's why I've decided not to care much about my DR/SR. I'm sure most of us in this forum do our best to race fair. The minority of knuckleheads ruin our races. Only way to avoid that is not to play. Doesn't seem to be a viable option for people that want to race online.
So, mentally, I've set myself up to not focus on that handshake icon. Many players do and it appears to be a bit of a problem with all the concentrating on numbers gained or lost. I'll continue to race as I always do, hard & fair and watch my replays. ;)

Luckily, I had some very good racing in this most recent round in Nations.

I lined up with @afc5150 , but got lucky with the start and avoided the bunchup of cars at the first chicane by being on the outside, and was stuck with a pack for the first 4 laps or so, swapping positions a few times. I went for the 6S/7S strategy and found myself having a good, clean battle with another driver, who eventually got the better of me. However, I was being caught from behind and pushed like crazy to avoid losing my 7th and ended up with a race down to the line for 6th.

Only time to use Medium tires in this race is if tire saving is definitely not your thing, and/or are in the lower splits.
In higher splits, for this race, using Medium tires when not required was a huge no-no. You'll likely see this happen again in Manu round 8, where you'll do multiple Soft stints, and then one 1 lap Hard stint, and the Medium tires go untouched.

Even in the mid-level A lobby (maybe 5th split? Not entirely sure, the victory was worth 201 points) I was in using the Medium tires was not a good option. The leader ran on a 8M/5S strategy and finished in 5th. Another person who was 2 places ahead of me during the pit stop phase who went 5S/8M ended up finishing two spots behind me.

Forgive me a touch unrelated, but having got heavier into this as I anticipated and enjoying the series and racing, I wonder if upgrading slightly my setup would improve my times?

For Xmas I got the g29 and the next level gt. I love the seat, but should I have gone for the g923 instead, or something else in that price range?

I'd suggest focusing more on bettering your racecraft, strategies, and skills/abilities overall first since that matters more than the hardware you use. Plus, you'll get more accustomed to the hardware you are using the more you practice. When I bought the GT Eye brake pedal spring for my G27, it took time for me to relearn how to use my brakes since the brake feel/force changed. And if you're wondering about your purchase, as far as I'm aware, the G29 and G923 are essentially the same wheel. The G923 has vibrational feedback as well, but I never heard anyone giving that glowing praise that would make it worth buying over the G29.

Nations Dragon Trail Seaside Slot 1, Mid A/S Lobby, Door No. 9

I wasn't sure about this race until I hopped in a lobby with a bunch of A+ and high A drivers. It was 14 cars deep, bumper to bumper, and it stayed that was for at least 5 laps before the chicane started to break us up. It was incredibly intense. LOVED IT. At that point I knew I was going to enjoy the race. So hopped in the lobby and the chat lit up about one certain driver...and he didn't fail to produce dive bombs, penalties, and overall craptatstic driving. Grabbed a pole position and instantly fell back to p18 in turn 1 as said driver bombed T1 which caused me to wait to turn in, and that started the rear-ending cascade. But, I wouldn't let that ruin my night. The rest of the race was spent recovering positions. Managed a top 10 but only finished 2.5 seconds off the winner. Soooooooooo....on to race 2.

Slot 2, Mid A/S Lobby, Door No. 7
While the lobby had a few familiar names, none were GTP regulars. I didn't put down as good a time in qualifying but did manage a p2 start. It was a slip stream battle all the way to the end, when tragedy occurred. Did make the podium, though!!

Jumped on my alt account to see if I could get a little DR on that account since Sharefactory was being a jerk and I wanted to break my PlayStation. The Dr didn't disappoint. Took home a win but the race was pretty uneventful. Had my best qualifying with a 1:32.1xx. Great way to end the night.

Man, sorry to see you got stuck with that guy, it's honestly a shame that they have decent pace yet treat it like Wreckfest. And man, that second race was a gut wrencher at the end.

> Cries in Arizonan

Someone else suggested going slower so you get matched with weaker drivers... personally I think you're better off setting a decent lap so you race better opponents for DR/Points.

You can be better off coming 8th against strong opponents than 1st against weak

I agree. I merely answered his question. In my opinion you only get stronger and faster by racing with those apparently better than you.

Is anyone else planning on pitting in Manu on Saturday or is it just me in this stupid Nissan?

Ed - scratch that, it's not as bad as I thought. Qualifying will be interesting though

Long time no see, everyone! Interlagos and SSRX were complete disasters for me, dropping me out of A rank. I ended up staying off the forum to deal with the disappointment.

Manufacturers - Gardens Reverse Gr.3

Strategy: 6H-7M-7S

Qualifying was as bad as I expected, having to start from 15th. I elected to run a two-stop, starting on Hards to get them out of the way. The first two stints were spent minding my own business and captialising on mistakes and penalties. Incidents ranged from a Lexus running wide out of the final corner on lap 4, a Ferrari and Porsche dying to the chicane on lap 6 and an Audi losing it on the second hairpin's exit, gifting the unfortunate AMG behind a 4 second penalty.

On lap 14, I came across a Lexus and Atenza squabbling through the chicane. Their fighting allowed me to find the faster exit out of the chicane and the inside line into the final corner to seal the double overtake.

I managed to climb into the top 10, but I got hit with a dumb 1 second penalty for running into a glacially slow AMG into the first hairpin on lap 18, dropping me to 13th. I managed to re-overtake the slow AMG the following lap and jump two cars pitting on the penultimate lap to take 10th for 88 points. That unfair penalty definitely costed me 8th or 9th, but I did not want to risk another run. One and done.

Nations - Mini VGT spec race

I was out having a haircut and came back too late for Race 1, followed by getting DCed in the loading screen for Race 2.

Race 3 would have me encounter a very annoying rival in a Racing Point livery.

W2YyPT0.jpg

On my out lap on lap 7, I tried the inside into Slope Hairpin, but I thought there was no room for an inside pass....

kLOh7EE.jpg

...so I switched to the outside to take the racing line.

zeo0Y1c.jpg

He proceeds to take the racing line too, and we collide, with me taking the SR hit.

I was really incensed with his move to the point that I nearly forgot to take the chicane before CoD, inadvertently holding up the Thai behind me. I let him past on the following lap after smacking the CoD's exit wall. We both caught up to the Racing Point and started a fight for 4th that dragged on so long that 8th had caught up to us on the penultimate lap.

On the final lap, I got dropped from 6th to 8th after my fellow countryman made an optimistic dive into the first chicane and collided with me, followed by the Racing Point shoving me wide on exit. My countryman got a 1 second penalty for the dive and I retook 6th from the Racing Point at the final hairpin, just barely edging him out in the drag race to the line. I got 107 points, but my next best result was 106 from the Integra race, so I went again.

Strategy: 6S-7S without refuel

Race 4 would see me start 6th ahead of my nemesis in pink, despite a different compatriot ruining my first flying lap by braking too late into the first chicane and putting me in the wall. Fortunately, I had enough time to reset to the pits and run another out lap.

The start was mayhem, with the Malaysian in 3rd jumping the start and one other idiot starting the race in Reverse both causing pileups off the line. The first chicane was not much better, with one guy going straight into the barriers and taking an unfortunate soul with him.

Meanwhile at the front, I was still in 6th despite the Malaysian's jump start due to my nemesis getting a better start than me, much to my chagrin. I took 5th midway through the first chicane as mayhem unfolded behind me:
41k0efp.jpg

By the end of the first sector, the top 5 including me had broken away from the pack, leaving me free to hunt down my nemesis. I spent a few laps passing him in the corners, only for him to re-overtake me down the straights. Eventually I realised that he was not fuel saving like I was, and I settled in behind him.

On my in lap on lap 6, my nemesis botches CoD and I run straight into his rear, costing me 5th to the Malaysian that had started 20th. My nemesis got away without a penalty, but had to refuel in the pits, allowing me to get away from him out of the pits...and straight into heavy traffic into the first chicane. In the ensuring carnage, one guy ate gravel and another took a 1 second penalty for cutting me off into the braking zone. I survived that chaos and climbed back up to 5th behind the Malaysian that passed me on the in lap.

Thanks to @Mistah_MCA and some practice races, I knew that I could do 11 laps short-shifting when the bar reached the current gear number, and 2 laps revving the car to redline. On laps 9 and 10, I used my two fast laps to mug the Malaysian for 4th and immediately pull a gap on him. He apparently did not know about that he could do 2 fast laps too, as he was short-shifting the entire race.

WT67IRF.jpg

The Malaysian was able to close the distance somewhat in the dying moments of the race, but he was still 1.5 seconds behind me at the checkered flag. I claimed a comfortable 4th for 115 points. To add the icing on the cake, my nemesis finished 8th after holding 6th for most of the second stint, getting 93 points instead of the 102 he had in Race 3.

I have a bad feeling for the Green Hell tomorrow....

OH yeah forgetting about saturday, do I try and fix my DR/SR after the reset or keep playing Smash Bros and skip it? Must admit it's really fun not caring about rating and just giving back whatever I get given, I know they won't learn from it but I'm having fun rather than being annoyed with their behaviour.

Hi guys,

I'm new here as well as fairly new to sport mode.
Check out my replay from the mini clubman race here
Pt 1
Pt 2

I have lots of gt 6 and gt sport experience but not much at dragon tail. The race start went nicely starting in p15 and lap two in p6 I believe. Ended up serving a few penalty but came through to p1 for the finish. The very last corner was interesting when another user torpedo me and received a penalty. From what I can tell they actually tried to incur a penalty for me.. it was odd.

Enjoy! -let me know if commentating the replay would be worth my while.

New complaint: Why is tomorrow's race two laps? It's a sub 15-minute race. Qualifying will take longer.
Yeah Q should be 2 mins and just start you on the straight, 1 shot either way just no need to waste 8 mins to get to the start. I might not qualify, what difference does it really make unless I get a really low door and then I need to hook that lap up or 15 mins wasted. So door 5 or lower I'll go for it otherwise I'm just going to start from the back.

Agreed. I'm tempted to just sit out qualifying in any practice races I do and just race from the back and focus on keeping it on track during the race. I wish it was like the Tokyo layout (I forgot which one) where the pit lane is well before the finish line, so it only takes maybe 20s from leaving the pits to starting your flying lap. I get making us do an entire lap of SSRX since that requires a lot of space to reach terminal velocity (and find drafting buddies), but it's annoying to have to do an entire lap of the Nordschleife for your outlap (even worse, the full 24H layout which adds another 2 minutes...).

Remember the Gr.3 FIA race a while ago at the 24H layout, back when we still had fuel consumption in qualifying, and how we had to tip-toe even more around the track because you could actually run out of fuel on your flying lap if you burned too much on your out lap? Fun times...NOT!

FIA races at the Nurburgring are about attrition, even in A-rated lobbies. People will fall off. In qualifying and the race. Just focus on getting round and hope to avoid getting hit by anyone, you'll get a result.

That's what I figure, last week in dailies even in hard lobbies where I'm Q15 ish I would be about 8th after the penalty straight if I could keep clean and usually made a place or so on the second lap. FIA I shouldn't be up against As as it's usually closer matches so I recon I have a good chance from the back.

Especially with this not being a race needing one to stop, you could’ve easily had moved the pit lane to the Tourist entry on the back stretch.

Anyone know of a way to boost when you exit the pit lane? I’m usually like 15th or so when I exit in qualifying. I’ll be the first one out tomorrow. I hate knowing someone is going to spin or try to run through a wall and continue on, giving no space for the car(s) behind who will ultimately catch up.

Well Q is 12 mins so if I feel the need to do it I'll try and be last and way back going over the line as late as possible.
