The K4, successor to the aging Forte compact sedan, is set to be unveiled on March 21st, though there are some teasers for us to work with. The styling seems to bear resemblance to Kia's EV lineup, though whether it will feature an EV or hybrid setup is not yet known.

Definitely looking forward to seeing this thing for myself at the NYIAS when I go on April 6th.

Someone in my building just bought a blue K4. It really is an unsightly design. Probably the worse from Kia/Hyundai/Genesis. Makes a WRX look like a Bentl.... wrong comparison.
I guess every car company has to make their Aztek at some point.

I personally think they look fantastic. Proportions are still normal but all the graphics are unusual.

That said, I've driven one as a rental car and it was....a rental car. In that respect, there is absolutely no difference between this and a Forte. It felt more modern but besides that wasn't any better. I absolutely positively would never buy one new unless warranty was my number 1 priority.

I haven't driven or sat in one, but the one I saw is a darkish blue, dark grey wheels(or wheel covers?) that look too small in diameter for the size of the car. It rides high as well.

The C pillar is killing me. Such a wierd way to fill that area with that shape. I can understand it being a good drive and everything is excellent ergonomically. I don't drink. So I see beautiful things quite well. To me, the K4 is not one of them. Maybe a race version might sway me. ;)
 
The back is killing it for me as well. It looks too boxy and bulky, like they forgot to take the testing camo off that part of the car before sending it in for production. Everything else is pretty conventional design, so that part just stands out too much to overlook. Maybe if that huge crease in the rear quarter panel wasn't so sharp, it'd flow better.

Needlessly overstyled headlights in the front, ill-fitting floating roof in the back. Rather bold of them to go with ugly styling decisions from both the 2020's and 2010's.
 
They just don't seem to know what to do with their cars once they get past the B-pillar. To be honest their entire upcoming lineup is a collection of weird cues that make me wonder if they couldn't decide on a new design language, and are just throwing everything out there to see what sells the best.
 
I never liked the styling. Too much wrong going on, but it works better in hatch form. They’re being too different with the Tasman and K4 sedan when they don’t have to.
The EV3/5/6 range are fine. That EV4 sedan is just plain weird.

I actually really like the k4 hatch, I think it looks a lot better than the sedans But it is still slightly longer than a golf or Corolla hatch which I really like.

The price point is also very interesting has for 38k can you get a 1.6L turbo gas engine which has been I Hyundai group cars for decades and a real 8 speed automatic, not some CVT trash. (Although, to have driven, one the Hyundai group IVT is actually not terrible)

You can also get ventilated/heated seats in the front and heated steering wheel/ backseats. Something really rare at that price range.

I’m personally not a fan of SUV, and in a world where they tend to replace smaller cars, seeing a new hatchback being built is something that I’m very happy about. 😁
