South American Champions vs European Champions and the Europeans win. Infantino (a European) must be fuming.

The wait goes on for a team to defend its crown. 64 years and counting.

Awful, awful game - but justice has been done. Congrats Spain!!

Shame on Argentina. Their performance tonight has been arguably the worst sporting display I've ever had the misfortune to watch. Imagine reaching the very pinnacle of your sport and playing like that? Absolute garbage.

And even more shame on them for their behavior after the final whistle. Some red cards needed issuing there.

Barely. Hope we see the FA taking action against the UK-based club players who waved that flag in the semis.

Leandro Paredes did, again inconsequentially, get a red after the final whistle.

Edit: Hmm. Seems to have been chalked off?

This is the end what is argubly one of the most frustrating World Cup finals ever.
By far. Spain v Netherlands was pretty awful as well, but this was really, really bad.

Who knew that Argentina would do this? It's perplexing, as they've shown (esp. against England) that they are capable of far, far better than this - but instead of showing their talent, they showed utter disdain for the game, their fans, and the sport. An absolutely abject display, and ended in an utterly disgraceful manner. They should all hang their heads in shame.

I had a feeling about this game so I didn't watch it but I'm very glad Spain won.

Same here. It was always going to be a dull tetchy affair unless Spain scored early. I had much better things to do...

UEFA chief swerved the final, due to FIFA shenanigans.

Liberal Democrat party calls for the FA and UEFA to leave FIFA:

FIFA investigating (mmhmm) Argentina for post-match assery in both semi-final and final...

Aaaaaand finally, part of the above article:

It was initially reported by Fifa that Argentina's Leandro Paredes had been sent off by referee Slavko Vincic after he pushed Spain's Eric Garcia by the throat.

Paredes' red card was removed from the record shortly afterwards and there is now no evidence of any disciplinary action being taken at the time.

🙄
