It's probably just the angle of the photograph but the nose is giving me 2014 flashbacks.
 


Unsurprisingly, all the "news" surrounding Williams' absence being due to them failing the crash test was just nonsense.
I appreciate the openness from Vowles. No excuses, just explaining the situation, and taking away some of the concerns.

It's so weird to me that sport in general - F1 too, and arguably most prominently - has effectively banned advertising for two of the three most harmful, legal adult vices globally, but has embraced the third (and arguably most pernicious) one with all the glee of a labrador suddenly finding itself in a bathtub full of sausages.

Sports betting has pretty much consumed everything it's touched in the US, so it doesn't surprise me that much really. If anything I'm surprised more actual casino outfits haven't been jumping aboard, especially with Vegas getting desperate to prop up its collapsing tourism numbers.
 
...I actually really like the roulette wheels :nervous::embarrassed:

Then again that's probably being the only person in existence who liked the wheel covers (like when McLaren used them for the Google Chrome logo).

All while weirdly, said thing is banned in multiple countries if I'm not mistaken (Where said sports take place). Some interesting choices being made.

I get the impression it would be VERY difficult for them to do so considering the direct association they already have with gambling (Unless you're Hard Rock International, which to be fair has multiple other businesses so it kinda has other options to fall back on)

I tend to like when a team does something to make the wheel covers less of an eyesore so I was totally onboard with the "Chrome" look (What you did there Mclaren, I see it...) and likewise, the Racing Bulls Wheel covers are awesome.

I feel like I'm OK with them too.

Still don't know why F1 isn't embracing the LED side panels on cars like WEC does. McLAren dropped their eInk displays from the headrest in the latter part of the season too I think.

I've been under the assumption that Sports Betting gets a pass for 2 reasons:

1) The impression that the teams, drivers, venues, and F1 as a whole all likely get a money-filled sausage that's bigger than anything from the times of Alcohol and Tobacco ads.

2) Alcohol and Tobacco Ads were banned for the sake of not influencing "The Children." But, since there's (ideally) more roadblocks to stop "The Children" from engaging in actual* money-changing-hands gambling, and that the act of gambling doesn't cause "obvious" bodily harm like how booze and nicotine does, then the powers at be have an easier time of wiping their hands clean of it.

I agree that it's a weird and harmful-in-the-long-term precedent, even if the Williams didn't have gaudy purple rims.



*Lootboxes and similar in videogames notwithstanding.

I like the look of this Williams - they've done a good job of blending the Barclays blue with the rest of the livery considering how jarring it normally is. I think they could've done a bit more with pinstriping the light blue down the nose cone.

It's not just formula 1 and football though, is it?...IMO, gambling and all the betting seems to have become a "mainstream" now, unless it was always the case and I just never paid any attention to it. There are so many adds on TV now promoting this stuff on different platforms, it boggles my mind. Especially when there are so many addicted people, people losing their life savings or livelihood because they just can't help themselves.
 
The Williams livery gives me Pacific vibes. Hopefully it's a tad faster/reliable than that car.
 
Yeah it’s disgusting to see, but also very unsurprising in the current state of the world.

Betting and Crypto scams everywhere in sports. Football has already lost me completely and I actually wish we’d boycott the World Cup for various reasons.
 


Williams just 0.4kg heavier than Mercedes according to the official car specification sheets that have been released so far. I cannot find an official source for the documents at this time. So take with a pinch of salt.
