Just a question... the Le Mans endurance has so much anticipation. Is the anticipation for this race greater, smaller, or the same (talking about anticiptaion for this race in Europe as opposed to Le Mans)?

I MIGHT do FACT OR FICTION in a future post.

Le Mans first race was in 1923 plus you must be invited to take part.
Rennin 24 was first in 1970 more of an amateur event.

Le Mans other name....Grand Prix de Endurance

Hurray!

Seeing that race-spec Audi R8 Road Car almost makes me imagine if the LED lights around the car could be used. It's a very lovely feature to recent Audis. Probably won't mean much as far as seeing around the track, but it's something I kind of thought of seeing it.

What cars or racers are you excited about seeing in this year's race?

Zakspeed....always pull for them.

I just want to let you know... here is the Volkswagen Sciroco gallery courtesy of the autoblog.com gallery:

Now don't make the mistake some people make by looking at this and saying "boy racer" or (that four-letter word that starts with "r" and rhymes with "twice"). I heard this thing is plenty capable. This is a wicked car. Almost a dream performance hatchback. It's packing 321 horsepower and 251 lb. ft of torque. All of it racing for 24 hours of Hell at Green Hell. Now that I've actually seen this in pictures and saw its performance numbers, I'd say this car is one to watch. I read this was going against the Audi A3 TDI clubsport machine also set to race in this event (right?). Should be a nice battle between two hatchbacks. Not to mention two capable hatchbacks. I think it's suitable for this track because you don't need an extremely fast car around this place. At least I now know more about the Scirocco.

Here's the blog I got this info from: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/22/volkswagen-scirocco-gt24-debuts-at-worthersee

i have to say, i don't know how serious of an effort this is, i know they are in the SP3T class but i also wonder if this is just an advertisement event for the new Scirocco or an attack on the class win.

Here is the full list of entries John

Few more questions.

1. How do you make it full screen? (Im really bad with computers)
2. When will the live broadcast start? i checked it this morning Fri and there was nothing showning so i guess we have to wait for that.

right click the video go down to Zoom->Full Screen

JohnBM01: Your not the only one, I have been keen seeing the Scirocco performing as well. The stats seems very good indeed, and looks like its for real business. ;) But yeah, it got a lot of tough competition from some of the fastest hatchbacks in the race, not only from Audi, but BMW and Opel as well. Yeah, its gonna be interesting........ :D

(Post #37 by MotoMinded) Don't worry... I have downloaded the entry list a few days ago. So I know who's on there. I was just studying the list a bit.

I usually ask how do you win an event like this? To me, I think concentration is a must. It's a nightmare to tune a car for this track because you have a lot of high-speed sections coupled with a variety of rally-style corners and sections. The GT4 forum had someone asking if someone made rally pacenotes for the Nürburgring Nordschleife. You then have what I call the easiest part of the course- that super-long straight with the little kink in the road. It's always tough trying to memorize an extremely long course. "Oh, that chicane is coming up." "This is where there's a kink in the road." This is not the track to relax at. You have to contend with passing cars, staying focused at all points of the race, and simply surviving. A very long course is no fun when you're out of gas or have parts breaking. You have to be game to take on this track physiclaly and mentally.

Good luck to all 280 entries in this weekend's race.

I've been watching a little bit, listening to the audio through Radio LeMans. The assortment of cars on the track has been very surprising, everything from FIAT 500s and Opel Astras up to eighty-bajillion Porsches and the Lexus LF-A. A good show from what I can see, we're just waiting on the rain.

I've only gotten really interested in auto racing and even Gran Turismo in the last year, I've been anxious for footage of an endurance race and this is exception. Big thanks for the links to the streaming video and especially the streaming english audio, I was watching the german for a good while. It actually seems like they're commenting on the same video feed eh?

This may seem like a really dumb question but....

What is the Blue light in the windscreen of the Porsches, Astons etc?

Is it like a mobile Blue flag? Get out of the way I'm a faster car

They just said on radiolemans that it's for the top 20 qualifiers.

JASE72: Just heard on the le mans radio broadcast that the 20 fastest cars in qualifying are given that flashing blue light to help slower drivers know when somebody really fast is coming through.

I just heard the announcers say GTPlanet dot net? WHOS ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT E30S HERE??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

after reviewing the entry list again it hit me. Not one Ferrari in the field. Am i the only one surprised by a field of 280 and not 1 Ferrari?

race leaded is having issues after all this time! car #22

I found this link for full results. You may want to avoid this if you're not willing to play detective trying to learn German:

http://adac.24h-rennen.de/en/database.html

150 cars ended up in the finishing order. Hasn't Manthey won this race three successive years? It's because I saw in a 0-60 Magazine ad of Manthey Racing winning this race in 2006 and 2007. It used to be BMWs that have dominated here. Now the honor goes to another German make. Sure like to see how 2009's race shapes up.
